Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 New Stakes

"Leave it to you?"

"Yes, leave it to me."

Hearing Allen's affirmative reply, Leto and Vesemir exchanged glances.

"What do you want the Drowners for?" Vesemir asked, puzzled.

Allen replied, "I want to try fighting three at once, to take care of multiple Drowners in one go."

"Oh, it seems someone is afraid their injured companions will be lonely and plans to find a chance to keep them company."

Leto raised an eyebrow, smiling as he looked at Allen:

"Are you sure, Witcher Apprentice? There's no 17,325 oren Silver Sword bet this time."

"Leto!"

Vesemir glared at Leto and earnestly advised Allen:

"At your current level, you're not strong enough to handle three Drowners simultaneously."

After a pause, Vesemir continued to dissuade him:

"Even if you have Witcher's Eyes."

"But fighting multiple enemies and killing Drowners with a steel sword are not in the same category of difficulty; it requires more skilled swordsmanship and footwork."

"Haven't you heard that saying?"

"If monsters are truly clumsy, gathering in groups makes them happy."

Feeling Vesemir's sincerity, Allen had a bit of a headache.

[Limited Time Quest: You all, come at me! (Kill Drowners 0/3)]

[Quest Reward: Unknown]

The hunting demon handbook's quests always popped up suddenly.

The previous main quest, "Beginning of the Witcher Path," was like that.

This limited-time quest was also like that.

The moment Vesemir said "clear them directly," the quest popped up in front of Allen.

In a few more minutes, the Drowners would be dealt with, and it would be hard to even make up a temporary excuse.

"Don't worry, Master Vesemir, I'm confident." Allen could only say this.

Vesemir looked suspiciously at the dried bloodstains on Allen's face.

Confident?

Was it me who just lost strength and fell clumsily onto the Drowner's corpse?

"Allen, if you make a mistake, I can still guarantee your safety with one Drowner, but three might be different." Vesemir was about to persuade him further.

"Vesemir, let him try." The Chief walked over from the wall.

"But…"

"Don't worry, Witcher's Eyes won't be that simple." The Chief patted Vesemir's shoulder and continued, "Besides, I'm here too."

Vesemir fell silent.

He didn't know the extent of what Witcher's Eyes could do, and he didn't want to reveal that in front of the Chief.

So, after a moment of thought, Vesemir finally agreed.

After signaling Allen to be careful, he and Leto moved the cages.

Allen breathed a sigh of relief.

He had just put on his Silver Sword when he noticed the Chief approaching.

The Chief glanced at the sword in Allen's hand and said:

"If you win using the Silver Sword, I will reward you with a custom-made leather armor."

After a pause in his tone, the Chief took out a pendant from his lower back.

"But if you win using the steel sword, this Vera's Illusion Pendant will be yours."

The magical ornament lay quietly in the Witcher's palm, shimmering with an alluring magical glow.

Even without mentioning its function, Allen could tell the value of this magical ornament from Vesemir and Leto's envious expressions.

However, looking at the Chief's gentle smile, Allen not only felt no joy but was rather surprised and uncertain.

Vesemir was understandable.

Allen's defiance was sudden.

And Vesemir simply didn't believe Allen could win.

Making the best of a bad situation was understandable.

But why was this Wolf School Chief doing this?

Although he couldn't find much useful information in his memory.

But to be called the Chief, this Witcher, who seemed only middle-aged, must stand at the pinnacle of the Wolf School.

Are all the Wolf School Witchers in the game like Geralt, all good guys, now in Kaer Morhen?

Allen wasn't that naive.

The children who died at the Ancient Sea Fortress could pile up and drown all of Kaer Morhen.

What does such a high-ranking and powerful figure gain from showing such favor to an apprentice?

Witcher's Eyes?

Suspicious!

Very suspicious!

Wait!

Even Witcher's Eyes was proposed by this Chief; it wasn't recorded in the game, and other Witchers didn't know about that experiment record either.

In an instant, Allen felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, and cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead.

"What's wrong?" the Chief asked with some concern.

"Uh… uh, nothing." Allen replied, forcing himself to remain calm.

"So, what is your choice?"

"Chief, are you sure I can win?" Allen probed.

"I believe Witcher's Eyes won't lose," the Chief raised an eyebrow, "Besides, even if you lose, what do I lose?"

"Judging by his tone, does Witcher's Eyes really exist?" Allen felt conflicted again.

Was this Witcher truly acting out of the school's interests, fostering a junior?

It seemed plausible.

Without concrete evidence, Allen could only temporarily keep his suspicions to himself.

"Can I try carrying both swords?" Allen asked.

The Chief nodded.

Before entering the training ground, Allen handed the elsa in his arms to Hughs.

This Silver Sword was too long and heavy for him to use at the moment.

With everything ready, Allen walked to the center of the training ground.

Gripping his steel sword, he took a deep breath, then nodded to Vesemir.

Receiving the signal, Vesemir and Leto simultaneously opened the cages, dodged the Drowners' attacks, then pushed forward with their right middle fingers.

Aard Sign.

Their movements were as coordinated as skilled workers on an assembly line in Allen's previous life.

To be fair, Drowners are indeed one of the simplest types of monsters.

Although they have brains, they don't use them.

They pounce from a distance, claw when close, and bite when even closer.

Simple attack patterns.

After fighting them a few times, you can control the distance and make the Drowners run in circles.

Of course, this is only in the case of a single Drowner.

No matter what kind of monster, a large number of them will be very difficult.

Factors such as distance, terrain, stamina, attack frequency, and methods will constantly change as the number of monsters increases.

Especially in a place like an apprentice training ground, a narrow area less than a hundred square meters, with four creatures fighting.

It's very difficult to maneuver.

The Witchers outside the training ground also consciously kept their distance from the railings.

This left Allen with no chance to "accidentally" shift the Drowners' aggro.

After dodging the leading Drowner's pounce, Allen tried to use [Demon Hunting].

But as soon as his mental power touched the Drowner's surrounding magic field, the second Drowner's claw was already right in front of him.

He held his sword horizontally across his chest, blocking the claw stained with turbid body fluid. Allen instantly adjusted his center of gravity, stepped back with his right foot to counteract the force transmitted to the sword, and then smoothly retracted his sword.

The Drowner, which used full force in every attack, was naturally flung away by its own power.

When his thoughts refocused on the first Drowner, the progress bar accumulated for [Demon Hunting] had already disappeared.

"[Demon Hunting] indeed has great limitations." Allen thought.

While he was thinking, Allen's body did not stop.

He quickly spun his body, and the steel sword, which had been accumulating power at his waist, suddenly slashed out, cutting the neck of the last Drowner.

Although the sharp blade of the steel sword only cut off a bit of debris, the Drowner was still knocked to the ground.

In an instant, all three Drowners fell to the ground.

Seeing this clean and decisive scene.

Leto, outside the training ground, his expression quickly changed from frivolous to serious, and finally to bewildered.

His gaze was fixed on Allen.

Only after all the Drowners had fallen did he turn his head, somewhat surprised and uncertain, and ask:

"Ve… Vesemir!"

"Has this apprentice's swordsmanship improved?"
