Chapter 4: Being a Lower God

The God of Scholars stopped the Nameless Monarch before he could leave.

"Becoming a celestial god," he said, "is not a problem for me."

The Monarch turned back, confused.

Yoli spoke first. "Gods can cross other worlds. That is known."

"Yes," the God of Scholars replied. "But your case is different."

He stepped closer.

"To visit another world as a god is permitted," he said. "But you would not be going as an observer. You would be going to correct the remains of another life."

The Monarch listened.

"That kind of passage," the god continued, "requires power to be sealed. A world does not allow a god to enter it whole."

The Monarch's eyes narrowed slightly.

"But even without divinity," the God of Scholars said, "you already rival many gods. Sealing you would be… difficult."

He gestured to the floating records.

"You possess talent in too many paths. Magic. Combat. Control. Judgment. To seal all of it perfectly would strain the laws themselves."

The room grew quiet.

"So the world may refuse you," the god said. "Not out of hostility. Out of preservation."

Yoli understood. "Then ascension brings restriction."

"Yes," the God of Scholars replied. "A celestial god carries too much weight."

The Monarch remained still.

"For this reason," the god said carefully, "I suggest another path."

He met the Monarch's gaze.

"Do not rise as a celestial god."

A pause.

"Become a lower god instead."
