Chapter 11 - MISUNDERSTANDING

For the first time, Jungkook didn't tease her.

Didn't smirk.

Didn't argue.

He just stared at Yn for a few seconds, expression unreadable.

Then he turned around and walked away.

Silently.

Jinhee grabbed Yn's arm,

"Oh my god… Yn… he heard that."

Yn froze.

"…what exactly did he hear?"

Jisoo whispered,

"'He's not special. He thinks he's the center of the world.'"

Yn felt her stomach drop.

Oh no… not this.

After lunch, class resumed.

Jungkook didn't look at her.

He always glanced at her at least once.

But today?

Nothing.

He talked normally with other boys.

Laughed at their jokes.

Helped Taesung carry notebooks.

But didn't even spare one glance at Yn.

Yn felt something sharp twist in her chest.

Why is he taking it seriously? I didn't mean it like that…

But she couldn't explain it now.

Not in front of everyone.

During math class, the teacher asked Jungkook and Yn to check each other's answers.

"Yn, give your sheet to Jungkook. Jungkook, pass yours to Yn."

Usually, he would complain jokingly or make some comment.

Today?

He just slid his paper toward her silently, without looking.

Yn felt awkward and guilty.

She checked his answers quickly.

Then she passed it back.

"Here."

He didn't take it.

Yn pushed the sheet a little closer.

"Jungkook… take it."

Still no response.

Finally, he grabbed it without lifting his head.

Not a single word.

Not a single look.

Yn swallowed hard.

AFTER CLASS

When the final bell rang and students started packing, Yn stood up and walked to Jungkook's desk.

He was stuffing books into his bag, still ignoring her.

Yn took a deep breath.

"Jungkook, about earlier… I didn't mean—"

He finally looked at her.

His tone was calm but cold.

"You don't have to explain."

Yn flinched slightly.

"But I—"

"You're right," he cut her off.

"I'm not special. And I shouldn't assume people care."

Yn's eyes widened.

"That's not what I meant."

Jungkook zipped his bag harshly.

"You don't have to pretend. I heard enough."

Yn took a step closer.

"But Jungkook—"

He stepped back.

"Let's just keep distance from now on."

He walked out of the classroom.

Leaving Yn standing there alone.

Her chest tightened.

Why does it hurt… when I didn't even do anything wrong?

 REALIZATION

Sol Hee came to Yn slowly.

"Yn… he looked really upset."

Yn sighed, staring at the door Jungkook left through.

"I know."

Jinhee whispered,

"Are you going to say sorry?"

Yn didn't answer immediately.

She stared at the empty doorway.

She hated misunderstandings.

She hated drama.

She hated people thinking wrong about her.

But for some unknown reason…

This one hurt more.

I will fix it.

He misunderstood me… and I can't let that stay.

Her fists tightened around her notes.

I will talk to him tomorrow. No matter what.

The next morning at school, the atmosphere felt strange.

You reached your classroom early, clutching Jungkook's notes in your hand — the ones you had rewritten neatly for him last night, feeling guilty for misunderstanding his spray situation after the race.

He entered the room a few minutes later, but he didn't even glance at you.

You blinked.

"Jungkook… I wanted to say sorry—"

Before you could even finish, he walked past you and sat in his seat, earphones plugged in, eyes fixed on his phone as if you didn't exist.

A small sting hit your chest.

What…?

You tried again during the break.

"Jungkook, I didn't mean—"

He stood up and left the moment you stepped toward him.

No reaction.

No reply.

Not even a nod.

Just distance.

And somehow… that hurt more than you expected.

At Lunch

You sat with Sol-hee, poking your food with your spoon.

"Why do you look like a rejected potato?" Sol-hee raised an eyebrow.

You sighed.

"It's Jungkook… I think he's mad at me. He isn't talking at all."

Sol-hee widened her eyes.

"Wait, that boy? Jeon Jungkook? Our class's human bunny? He's ignoring you?"

You nod slowly.

"Ohooo this is serious." Sol-hee leaned closer dramatically.

"What happened? Did you punch him? Steal his lunch? Accidentally set him on fire?"

You glared.

"No! I misunderstood something and I guess he didn't like it…"

Sol-hee softened her voice.

"You look really upset… more than you should be."

You froze.

Was she right?

Why were you feeling this strange heaviness because he wasn't talking to you?

You barely knew him a month ago.

Still, seeing him laughing with other boys but not looking at you even once… it felt wrong.

You whispered, almost to yourself,

"I just… didn't expect him to ignore me like this…"

Sol-hee smiled knowingly but didn't tease further.

"Give him time. Boys act weird when their feelings are hurt."

You blink.

"Hurt? Why would he—"

Sol-hee interrupted with a shrug.

"Maybe he thought you were judging him. Maybe he felt embarrassed. Maybe he thought you saw too much. Who knows?"

You bit your lip, her words making your thoughts swirl.

Later in Class

When the teacher asked Jungkook to share a textbook with you, he responded politely but coldly:

"I'm fine, ma'am. I'll manage alone."

Your heart dropped.

Even the teacher noticed but said nothing.

You kept stealing short glances at him — his jaw tight, his eyes fixed straight, his posture stiff.

Did you hurt him more than you realized?

After School

You made one last attempt.

"Jungkook… can we talk for a minute?"

He didn't stop walking.

"Please," you added softly.

He paused for just half a second — then continued walking away.

That half-second was enough to show he heard you…

…but not enough to forgive you.

And for the first time, you wondered:

Why does his silence feel heavier than his anger?

The tension had grown so heavy that even your classmates noticed.

Sol-hee had enough.

During lunch break she grabbed your wrist and dragged you toward the back courtyard.

"Sol-hee— what are you doing?!"

"We're solving this nonsense TODAY."

Before you could protest, she spotted Jungkook near the vending machine, leaning against the wall, sipping a cold drink.

He looked tired.

A little pale from his cold.

But still refusing to look at you.

Sol-hee marched straight to him.

"Jeon Jungkook! Stop acting like an abandoned K-drama hero and TALK!"

Jungkook's eyes widened at her boldness, but when he saw you standing behind her, his expression hardened instantly.

He turned away.

But Sol-hee blocked his path.

"You two will talk. Right now. Before I lose all my sanity."

She shoved both of you into the empty music room and shut the door loudly.

You were both alone.

Silence stretched — thick, awkward, painful.

Finally, you gathered the courage.

"Jungkook… why are you being like this?

The next day, the school was buzzing as usual, but a subtle tension lingered in the air — between you and Jungkook.

He was quieter than normal, sitting in class with his hood slightly up and books opened.

Not aloof, not teasing, just… absent in a way that made people curious.

You, on the other hand, tried to focus on your notes, but your eyes kept wandering.

He's still thinking about what I said… I need to fix this properly.
