Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Rune Craft

After Furan was spared a few days in confinement thanks to Elan's help, she returned to her dorm room, contemplating something.

She remembered seeing in the Star Gazing Technique that she would kill Richter in the future, and today's incident made her aware of more issues she needed to handle.

For example, how should she handle the aftermath of killing Richter? A High-level Apprentice is different from a regular Apprentice. Could she still rely on connections to resolve the matter easily, like today?

There was also the issue of combat power. Based on the performance in that future scene, Furan felt that even twenty of her current selves couldn't win.

The person in the vision instantly killed a High-level Apprentice within seconds of using the Breathing Technique, something her current self was completely incapable of doing.

Moreover, Furan felt that the day of that scene was approaching rapidly, and she suspected Richter might have noticed her a long time ago.

The fact that the Apprentice ran away upon seeing her was the best proof. It was likely that something was preventing Richter from coming after her immediately.

This obstacle was probably the Year-end Assessment. Richter was likely preparing for it, and since it was too important, he couldn't make a move against her now.

And once the assessment was over, that would likely be Richter's window of opportunity.

She looked at her various skills and was confident that most could reach the mastery level within three months, but there was one she wasn't so sure about.

That was the Swift Wind Breathing Technique. While this skill provided a significant boost, its current progression was extremely slow. If she only practiced daily, it would be impossible to reach mastery within three months.

However, she noticed that the Breathing Technique granted a lot of experience during combat.

Therefore, she would have to frequently seek out Bella for'sparring' sessions.

Furan looked at the 'Second Weaponsmith' sign in front of her, knowing that the organization she was looking for was located here.

The organization she was looking for was one that enchanted weapons and equipment, and she wanted to see if she could obtain the Enchanter profession here.

Furan pushed the door open and entered. The Receptionist was an Apprentice wearing a long robe. He was lying on the desk, seemingly very sleepy, but he still forced himself to perk up when he saw someone arrive.

"Hello, are you looking to enchant a weapon? Do you have a specific Enchanter you'd like to use?"

The Receptionist keenly noticed the longsword Furan was carrying, realizing it might be a business opportunity, and spoke immediately.

"No, I came here to learn Enchanting techniques."

"Ah... wait a moment, I'll find someone..."

The Receptionist knew he couldn't handle this matter himself, so he simply went to find someone else.

After a while, the Receptionist returned, pulling a person with him. The newcomer was a tall male, resembling a Blacksmith.

"Hello, I am Hall, the Vice Leader of the organization. Are you the one who wants to learn Enchanting?"

Hall frowned. He had been quite expectant upon hearing that someone wanted to learn Enchanting, especially since the organization hadn't seen a new member in almost half a year.

However, he looked at Furan, who was quite short compared to him, with her slender arms and legs. Could she really learn Enchanting well?

Just like the organization's name, an Enchanter is essentially a 'Second Weaponsmith'.

Although theoretically, an Enchanter only needs to carve the runes and check that they function correctly.

But reality isn't that simple. For one, the shape and structure of every weapon are different, so the size of the runes that can be carved naturally varies.

Furthermore, not every weapon is forged using metals suitable for carving runes.

This means that an Enchanter must also possess superb Blacksmith craftsmanship to make adjustments for various situations.

For example, many times he has to overlay the weapon with a layer of Adamantite or Mithril and draw the runes on that overlaid layer.

Not to mention that many advanced Enchanting techniques require specific locations to be reserved when the weapon is forged. Therefore, it is absolutely impossible to be a good Enchanter without knowing the work of a Blacksmith.

He subtly tried to dissuade Furan:

"Well, you might not be very suited for Enchanting..."

Furan, however, did not want to give up.

"I can pay money to learn Enchanting."

"It's not about the money..."

Then, Furan took fifty silver coins out of her pocket and said:

"Is this enough?"

She had plenty of money now. As the saying goes, money can solve most problems..."No problem at all! I believe you can definitely defy convention and master Enchanting!"

Hall happily took the silver coins from the table. To them, this was a huge sum.

Since Apprentice City is full of Apprentices, and everyone uses staves, the effect of runes is minimal, so naturally, they didn't get much business.

The places with truly abundant business were the other large cities. Not only did the Territorial Noble need them, but many Mages also needed decorative items, and a rune-decorated sword was undoubtedly very suitable.

Additionally, Apprentices in Apprentice City are genuinely eager to learn. Many people want to study Enchanting, which has led to the formation of numerous related organizations. Cuilan Academy alone has six of them.

Normally, getting three or four pieces of business a month was considered good. They would earn a total of a dozen silver coins, not even accounting for material consumption costs and the maintenance and wear-and-tear of various tools. In the end, they might only earn less than sixty silver coins a year.

Therefore, these fifty silver coins were nearly his annual income, so how could he not be excited?

Hall had no objections to Furan's request to start teaching immediately.

Hall handed Furan a somewhat wrinkled and damaged book. Furan took it and carefully rubbed it, finding the paper material very familiar.

The title on the cover of the book was "Rune Application in Weapons." Furan flipped it open and glanced at it.

It generally explained how a rune should be carved onto a weapon and where the rune should be placed for greater effect. Because it discussed many runes, the book was quite thick.

After seeing the familiar handwriting, Furan looked toward Hall.

Hall smiled.

"Our Leader exchanged this using Points at the Exchange Hall. It's been with us for three years now, and every newcomer starts learning Enchanting by reading this book."

After Furan quickly finished reading about the first rune, she immediately asked Hall to let her try it out.

If it were a typical newcomer who spoke so impatiently, Hall would definitely have slapped them a few times.

Normally, Hall would have the newcomer read the book for a day, observe others drawing Inscriptions for a few days, and only allow them to try after they correctly answered Hall's questions.

But since she paid, he couldn't act this way. Hall, upholding the spirit of service, laid out the materials and explained:

"Well, not all of our materials are free. I'll give you ten sets of materials for free now, but after that, you'll have to pay for each one yourself."

Furan nodded, signaling him to start quickly.

With Hall's skilled technique, he quickly drew a rune onto a specially made Rune Practice Board.

Then, under Hall's guidance, Furan used her Spiritual Power to draw on the Rune Practice Board. As her Spiritual Power moved, the rune gradually appeared.

However, Furan was still unskilled on her first attempt and failed when she was three-quarters of the way done, yet she laughed happily.
