Chapter 65 - Four Days

Salvatore's POV

Marco didn't look up from his tablet when I walked into the study, "She's settled," Marco said, his voice neutral. "Off-grid. A location Helen Conti secured three years ago, Salvatore."

I went to my desk, not working.

The wedding seating chart was in front of me, but I hadn't looked at it in two days.

I'd been looking at the window instead, at the grey quality of the light coming off the water, thinking about nothing in particular and a specific woman in general.

I walked to the window, looking out over the manicured grounds of the estate. Somewhere beyond those walls, Massimo was likely tearing the city apart, looking for the woman he'd put in the hospital. "Is she alright?"

"She's healing, yes, still favoring the left side, still moving gingerly, but she is not hiding. She is functioning, Salvatore. My man on the street says she came out yesterday morning, walked to a pharmacy, a café, back. That is infinitely more dangerous to us than a victim who runs."
