Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Ethan's eyes shot open.

Light spilled across the rune-carved walls of the residence, but his focus wasn't on the frost-patterned windows, nor on the golden sun rising above the city skyline.

It was on Lyssara.

She was already awake, as usual. Reclining on the edge of the bed, wings half-folded, hair spilling across her shoulders, eyes sharp as frozen blades. Her gaze rested on him with an intensity that made his stomach tighten.

"You woke early," she said, voice calm, but with that undercurrent of… command.

"…I didn't exactly sleep well," he admitted, rubbing his temples. "This whole 'married to a dragon queen' thing isn't exactly relaxing."

Lyssara tilted her head. A single strand of hair fell across her face, brushing his shoulder as she leaned ever so slightly toward him.

"Perhaps if you slept closer…" she said softly. "…You would have."

Ethan froze mid-breath. Her words, so casual, carried weight. Authority. Possession. And a warmth that contradicted the icy aura surrounding her.

The system pulsed.

"…Closer?" Ethan croaked, his pulse spiking as her hand moved deliberately to rest near the curve of his shoulder. The tips of her fingers barely brushed the skin. Yet it sent a shiver down his spine.

"Yes," Lyssara murmured, leaning a little more until the warmth of her body brushed against his. "…The bond requires synchronization."

"Synchronization," Ethan muttered, "…feels like it's trying to melt my brain."

Her lips curved faintly, amused. "The system measures more than your heartbeat. It senses desire, instinct, and… compatibility. Yours is promising."

He swallowed hard. "Compatibility?"

Lyssara's gaze softened, though it still held that lethal elegance. "Yes. Your reactions are… acceptable. Rewarding. We bond not only in life but in… touch."

The system pinged again, bright letters flashing across his vision.

Ethan's face went hot. "The system… just said what?"

Lyssara didn't answer verbally. Instead, she leaned closer. Very close. Close enough that he could feel her warmth radiating across his chest, her hair brushing his jawline, the faint scent of frost and ancient forests curling in his senses.

He froze entirely. Every nerve ending screamed. His hands twitched, his pulse racing. And yet… a strange calm held him. Like he was meant to be exactly here.

"…Lyssara," he whispered, "…this is… dangerous."

She smirked faintly. "Dangerous for you, perhaps. But necessary. You must awaken your instincts."

"Awaken my instincts? What instincts?" he muttered, voice trembling.

"Mate instincts."

Ethan's stomach dropped. The words didn't just echo in his mind — they seemed to vibrate through him, through his very veins.

The system flared again.

Her hand slid slowly over his shoulder, down the length of his arm. He tried not to notice the deliberate pressure, the faint warmth against his skin, the subtle brush of her fingers that made every hair on his body stand on end.

"You will learn," she murmured, "to accept closeness. To accept me."

"Accept… you?" Ethan's voice cracked. "…I don't even know how to—"

Lyssara's lips pressed against his ear — not a kiss, not yet, just a brush of contact that sent electricity racing down his spine.

"By touch," she whispered. "…By presence. By understanding the bond you chose."

Heat pooled in his core. His body responded instinctively. Every instinct, every thought screamed at him: she was his. His to protect. His to touch. His to… something more.

He swallowed hard. "Lyssara… this is insane…"

She straightened slightly, enough to meet his gaze. Her eyes held centuries of experience, domination, and… undeniable desire.

"Yes," she said softly. "Insane. And inevitable."

The system reacted again.

Bond Alert: Partner proximity extremely close.Effect: Heart rate synchronization, heightened sensitivity, passive arousal.Warning: Resistance unlikely.

Ethan swallowed again, trying to keep his composure. Every rational thought evaporated under the weight of her gaze, her presence, the way her hand lingered against his skin.

"You… you're really doing this," he whispered. "…On purpose."

Lyssara's smirk deepened. "Do you wish me not to?"

"…No," he admitted, voice barely audible. "…I… I want you to."

The faintest hum of approval escaped her lips. She leaned in again, closer this time. Her hand moved with deliberate slowness along his torso, tracing lightly over his chest, just enough to make his muscles tense.

Ethan's heartbeat accelerated. The system pinged.

Dragon Mate Bond — Resonance StrengthenedBond Level Increased → 4Physical Response: Heightened sensitivity to partner touchWarning: Erotic tension reaching critical levels

Her fingers brushed under the hem of his shirt, the cold of her touch paradoxically igniting warmth beneath his skin. He swallowed hard, unable to stop the heat from spreading through his body.

"…Lyssara," he gasped, voice catching, "…we… shouldn't…"

She leaned closer. Closer than before. The warmth of her body pressed against his, chest to chest, thigh to thigh. She didn't speak. She let the contact linger, allowing him to feel every nuance of her presence — the rhythm of her breathing, the ancient pulse of her heart, the subtle energy radiating from her as a sovereign dragon.

Ethan's hands hovered, uncertain where to place them, trembling with both fear and desire.

Lyssara tilted her head slightly, watching him. "Do not be afraid of desire," she said softly. "…It is part of the bond. Part of us."

He shivered. His pulse was hammering; the system flared repeatedly, unable to process the combination of physical proximity, emotional tension, and instinctual desire flooding his body.

"…I… I don't know if I can—"

"You can," Lyssara whispered, her lips brushing his jaw this time. Just the faintest touch, a tease, not a kiss, but enough to make his knees weaken. "You will. Because you are mine. And I am yours."

Her hand slid further down his side, fingers brushing against the waistband of his pants — still fully clothed — just enough to ignite a burning awareness in him that he hadn't anticipated.

Ethan swallowed hard, mind a chaotic tangle of shame, excitement, fear, and… something primal he couldn't name.

"…Lyssara… this is…"

"Necessary," she murmured. "It awakens your instincts. Prepares you for what is to come."

The system pinged violently, flashing red warnings he couldn't ignore.

Bond Alert — Intimate ContactEffect: Full Dragon Mate Synchronization AttemptWarning: High erotic stimulation may override rational thought

Ethan's body reacted against his will. Heat burned along his core. His hands twitched toward her, instinct screaming that she was his — that this closeness, this touch, this tease was meant to draw him in.

Lyssara's eyes glimmered with cold amusement as she leaned slightly back, letting him feel the pull of her presence, teasing without breaking him.

"You are learning quickly," she whispered. "Control your reactions. Or submit. Your choice will reveal much about your bond."

He swallowed hard, breathing ragged, pulse pounding. "…I… don't think I can submit," he admitted. "…Not yet…"

Her smile widened, subtle, predatory. "…Then learn restraint. Because in this bond, restraint is the greatest test of desire."

The system pinged again.

Ethan's chest heaved. Every rational thought had fled. Only the overwhelming sensation of her nearness remained. Her warmth, her gaze, the brush of her skin, the subtle scent of frost and ancient forests — all commanding him, challenging him, enticing him.

Lyssara finally moved back slightly, allowing a fraction of space between them.

"…Rest," she said softly. "Bonding requires balance. But never forget…"

She let her words linger. Her eyes held his, and something deep, primal, and undeniable passed between them.

"You are mine, Ethan Vale."

"And you're mine," he whispered back, his voice hoarse, heart hammering, mind screaming. "…I just… I've never felt anything like this."

She leaned back on the pillows, wings folding, smirked faintly, and the room seemed to hum with quiet power.

"Good," she said softly. "…We have much to teach each other."

Ethan swallowed. He wasn't sure if he would survive the next lesson — in body, mind, or heart.

But he knew one thing.

He didn't want to escape.

Not from her.

Not from this bond.

And definitely… not from what was about to come.

Outside, the city continued to stir. Guilds calculated. Hunters whispered. The world was watching.

Inside the rune-warded residence, Ethan and the Frost Dragon Queen lay inches apart, hearts slowly syncing, breaths mingling — the first true step in a bond that would shake nations, guilds, and dungeons alike.

And the system, ever vigilant, pulsed silently:

Your bonded mate is not just a bride — she is a sovereign. Handle carefully.
