Chapter 6 - awakening

As night fell, it was time for the guards to begin their patrols through the streets to ensure the safety of the citizens. It was one of them who found Martha lying in a pool of blood. Fearing she was dead, he checked her pulse and sighed with relief when he felt it. Worried for her life, he carried her to his home and entrusted her to his wife before returning to his rounds.

At dawn, Martha finally awoke. Opening her eyes, she saw a ceiling something she was not used to. Anxious and startled, she tried to sit up, but groaned in pain and failed.

Hearing her groan, the guard's wife hurried to her bedside.

"Don't move, young girl. You might reopen your wounds, and this time you might not survive."

"I'm thirsty, cough, cough, cough."

"Oh, yes, don't move, I'll get you something to drink…"

"Here, drink this."

"Thank you."

"It's nothing. Tell me, young girl, what's your name?"

"Martha."

"Alright, Martha. Do you know who caused these injuries? My husband is a guard he can arrest the people who did this to you."

"Pfft… he won't be able to do anything against Pedro."

"Pedro? Who's that?"

"The boss of the lower district."

"Oh, do you have a villain in your game? You shouldn't immerse yourself so deeply in your games, it's not good to cause this kind of injury."

"A game? What are you talking about, ma'am?"

"Your role-playing game, right? With a villain and a hero. That's common among children, isn't it?"

"Uh… ma'am, you don't understand. It wasn't children who caused these injuries."

"Wait, are you telling me that adults attacked you? But why?"

"I attacked them."

"But why?"

"They destroyed my home and took my treasure."

"That's horrible. Do you know why they did that?"

"I don't know. They even managed to find my treasure, which was hidden."

"Hmm… did you have anything important besides your treasure?"

"No, nothing at all."

"Then they must have been looking for your treasure."

"But… no one should know about it."

"And isn't there someone who might know?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"No, no one. I always hid my treasure."

"Alright, let's stop talking about all this. You need to rest."
