Chapter 1 - chapter 1: 2nd Chance !

MY name is (Shu).i am 28 year old. (walking on road)

**(past memories flashing)**

Why did everything have to end like that…?"

The road was quiet. He was walking alone with his hands in his pockets.

The evening air felt cold.

Old memories came into his mind.

Happy moments.

People who are not with him anymore.

Words he never said.

"I should have tried harder," he thought.

He stopped for a moment and looked at the ground. His chest felt heavy.

He knew the past cannot change.

So he took a deep breath… and started walking again.

Not because he was okay

After walking for some time, he saw a girl sitting alone on a bench.

She was looking down, quiet and still.

He stopped for a moment. He thought about walking away. But something made him stay.

Slowly, he walked toward her.

"Hi… are you okay?" he asked softly.

The girl looked up at him. Her eyes looked a little sad.

"I'm fine," she said, but her voice was not strong.

He sat on the other side of the bench.

"I don't think you are," he said gently. "I'm not okay either."

For the first time that evening, he did not feel completely alone.

The wind moved softly around them as they sat in silence together. After some time, the boy noticed something.

The girl was holding her stomach.

"Are you hungry?" he asked.

She stayed quiet for a few seconds, then slowly nodded her head.

The boy felt sad. He did not have much, but he had a little money in his pocket.

He asked gently, "What is your name? Where are you from?"

The girl looked away.

"I don't have a home," she said softly. "And… I don't want to tell my name. Just call me Ureshii."

Her voice was not angry. It was just tired.

The boy did not ask again.

"That's okay," he said. "You don't have to tell me."

He stood up. "Wait here. I will bring some food."

For the first time in a long time, he felt like he could help someone. The boy came back after a few minutes.

He did not have much money. He could only buy a small packet of biscuits.

He felt a little embarrassed.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I only have this."

He gave the biscuits to Ureshii.

She took them slowly. She opened the packet and started eating. After the first bite, she smiled.

It was a small smile, but it was real.

"Thank you," she said softly.

Seeing her smile made the boy feel warm inside.

She looked at him and asked, "What is your name?"

The boy stayed quiet for a moment.

He did not want to tell his real name.

"I'm just… a poor boy," he said with a small smile. "You can call me whatever you like."

Ureshii looked at him carefully.

To her, he did not look poor.

He looked kind.Ureshii held the biscuit packet carefully."You are not just a poor boy," she said quietly. "Poor people do not always have kind hearts."The boy looked away. He felt shy. No one had called him kind before. The streetlights turned on. The yellow light made the road look warm."Why are you here alone?" he asked softly.Ureshii looked at the road."Sometimes," she said slowly, "it is easier to be alone than to explain your pain."

The boy understood."I also had people in my life," he said. "But I lost them. I did not try hard enough to keep them."Ureshii did not give advice. She just listened. And that was enough. The wind became cold. The boy took off his jacket and put it on the bench near her."You will feel cold," she said."It's okay," he replied. She looked at him carefully."Why did you talk to me?" she asked. He thought for a moment."Because I saw myself in you," he answered. They stayed quiet again. But this time, the silence did not feel heavy. It felt peaceful. After some time, Ureshii stood up."I don't know where I will go," she said. "But thank you for staying with me."boy also stood up."You don't need to know everything," he said. "Just keep walking."She smiled a little more."Then walk with me," she said.He smiled and nodded.

They started walking together on the quiet road.

Both of them were nervous. The boy did not know how to talk to a girl. His hands felt cold. His heart was beating fast. He wanted to say something, but no words came out.Ureshii was also nervous. She was not used to walking with someone. She did not know if she could trust him.For a few minutes, they just walked in silence. Then the boy finally spoke."Umm… how did you come here?" he asked softly.Ureshii looked down at the ground. She did not answer. He felt worried. "Sorry… you don't have to tell me."She stayed quiet for a moment."I came here… by myself," she said slowly. The boy waited, but she did not say more.He understood that she did not want to talk about her past."That's okay," he said gently. "You don't need to tell me anything."Ureshii looked at him with a small surprised expression."You are not curious?" she asked."I am," he said honestly. "But I don't want to make you sad."For the first time, she felt a little safe. They kept walking side by side. They were still nervous. But little by little, the distance between them felt smaller.

They reached the road crossing. The light turned green. The boy crossed the road first. He walked fast and reached the other side.Ureshii was still crossing.Suddenly, her ring fell on the road. She stopped and looked down. The boy was already on the other side. He did not see at first.Ureshii bent down to pick up her ring. She did not know a truck was coming. The traffic light changed. The truck was moving very fast. The boy turned around. He saw Ureshii in the middle of the road.He saw the truck. His heart dropped."Ureshii!" he shouted. She looked up, confused. She still did not understand. The truck horn was very loud. The boy ran toward her as fast as he could.Everything felt slow.He reached her.He held her tightly. For a few seconds, it felt like time stopped. He hugged her.In his mind, he thought, Is this the end?The boy was holding Ureshii tightly.

The bright truck light was coming closer.

Everything felt slow.

In his mind, he thought,

If I have a second chance…

I will change my past.

I will not make the same mistakes.

I will try harder.

The light became brighter and brighter.

Then everything turned dark.

He could not hear the truck.

He could not feel the wind.

Only darkness.

Slowly, he opened his eyes.

He was sitting at a desk.

He heard many students talking loudly.

He looked around.

It was a classroom.

Sunlight was coming through the window.

He looked down at himself.

He was wearing a new school uniform.

His heart started beating fast.

He looked at the board in front.

It said:

"Welcome – First Day of High School."

He froze.

"This… this is my first day?" he whispered.

Students were smiling and introducing themselves.

Everything looked new.

Everything looked fresh.

He touched his face.

He was younger.

He was alive.

It was the first day of high school.

He really had a second chance.
