Chapter 4 - The Boy And the Nails

Keelein)

Once, there was a boy who had a very bad temper (bahut gussa ata tha). His father gave him a bag of nails and a hammer. He told the boy, "Every time you lose your temper, you must hammer a nail into the back of our wooden fence."

On the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails into the fence! Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails he hammered daily started decreasing. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally, the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father, and the father said, "Now, for every day you stay calm, pull out one nail."

Weeks passed, and finally, the boy told his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

He said, "You have done well, my son. But look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like these holes."

Moral of the Story:

Gusse mein kahe gaye shabd (words) saamne wale ke dil par ek aisa nishan ya 'hole' chhod dete hain jo kabhi nahi bharta. Aap chahe kitni bhi baar "Sorry" bol dein, wo zakhm wahi rehta hai.

Mistake to avoid: Kabhi bhi gusse mein koi faisla na lein aur na hi kisi ko bura kahein, kyunki wo chot hamesha ke liye reh jati hai.

Ek aur "Hard" Sikh: The Two Frogs

Two frogs fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the top and told them, "It's too deep! You can't jump out. Just give up and die."

One frog listened to them and eventually gave up and died. But the other frog kept jumping as hard as he could. The crowd kept shouting, "Stop! It's impossible!"

Finally, the second frog made a massive jump and got out. It turns out, that frog was deaf (behra). He thought the other frogs were cheering for him the whole time!

Sikh: Logon ki negative baaton ko sunna ek badi galti hai. Kabhi-kabhi "behra" ban jana hi kamyabi ki chabhi hoti hai.
