Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: An Electric Ghost?

Hearing her boyfriend's unusual scream, Kat, who was originally somewhat calm, instantly panicked and ran toward the room, shouting Gavin's name loudly as she ran.

"Gavin!"

When she ran to the door of the room, the door was suddenly pushed open with force. The caught-off-guard Kat was knocked to the ground by the door. immediately after, she saw her boyfriend Gavin running out of the room without looking back as if he had seen a ghost, sprinting toward the other side of the corridor...

"Ga..." Kat just wanted to call out to Gavin when she suddenly saw a woman's figure following out of the room.

Seeming to sense Kat's existence, the woman turned her head and glanced at her.

This glance seemed to make Kat instantly lose the ability to speak, and her boyfriend's name stopped abruptly.

Poof!

The woman disappeared without warning right before Kat's eyes.

Gavin didn't seem to see a ghost; he saw a ghost!

Kat, who came to her senses, could no longer see her boyfriend's figure. The fear of seeing a ghost made her instinctively want to run away. Supporting herself with both hands on the ground, she hurriedly got up, turned around, and ran toward Shane, shouting loudly to remind him as she ran: "Quick, quick, leave here first! There's a ghost here!"

Leaving a place with ghosts is just an instinct. Even knowing that the ghost might not still be here after disappearing, leaving here still makes one feel at ease.

Seeing Shane indifferent, Kat ran over, grabbed his arm, and wanted to take him away, but was grabbed back by Shane and pulled to a stop.

"Don't panic; there are no ghosts here right now!"

"There are! There really are ghosts! I saw it; she was just there!" Kat thought Shane didn't believe her.

"I know. She has left. There are no ghosts near here now."

"You... are you sure? How do you know there aren't?" Shane's words made Kat gradually calm down, but her heart was still somewhat apprehensive and panicked.

"Because I can see. Didn't I say when reminding Gavin before? There are many 'good brothers' here, not just the one seen just now. If he wanted to go, be mentally prepared."

Shane gave Kat a little time to recover before continuing, "You don't need to worry about Gavin. Although this guy's brain isn't bright, he runs quite fast. Uh... pretend I didn't say that. He actually ran until he tripped and fainted. This psychological quality is truly unparalleled."

"You... you can see Gavin?" Kat couldn't help but feel suspicious seeing Shane's reaction.

clearly, Gavin wasn't here. How come it seemed like you could see him?

"I can!"

Shane thought for a moment and took off his sunglasses. The pale white pupils truly startled Kat. Fortunately, Kat's IQ was online; she didn't lose her head just because she suddenly saw Shane's eyes change.

"Your eyes..."

"Byakugan, a special Kekkei Genkai. If you don't understand, just interpret it as a superpower. My pair of eyes can see through things 360 degrees without dead angles. So even in the dark with buildings blocking the view, I can see Gavin. The female ghost just now didn't chase him all the time. He was just scared out of his wits, and then... tripped and fainted by himself."

"So you wore sunglasses from the beginning because you were afraid of scaring us? You knew there were ghosts here long ago? Then... then why did you still come here?" Kat suddenly realized, then became even more puzzled.

Shane shrugged. "Actually, Gavin and I have similar ideas. He wants adventure; I want to see various supernatural creatures. I'm very interested in these things."

"Should... should we go find Gavin first and then leave here as soon as possible?" Although Kat calmed down, she was still very scared in this place where there were really ghosts. She really didn't want to stay for even a minute longer.

Shane shook his head. "You think this kind of haunted place is your boyfriend's room where you can come and go as you please? The doors and windows here have all been locked by a mysterious force. Under normal circumstances, you can only leave here after thoroughly solving the ghosts here. Of course, there are unconventional methods too, but I don't want to use them."

"I definitely won't leave before seeing the main master. Besides, since we're here, we should solve this ghost anyway, lest someone else comes here and gets harmed in the future."

Kat took a deep breath. "O-okay. Then how to deal with ghosts?"

Shane coughed a few times. Professor Shane's Small Classroom is now in session. "Normally, you can use salt or iron to block ghosts. To completely solve it, you must burn its corpse or things related to it. If you can't find them, you have to find a way to resolve its resentment."

"There are many ghosts here. The one you and Gavin saw is just one of them. In fact, she and other ghosts don't mean to harm us but want to convey a message."

"Con... convey what message?"

"A message that can resolve their resentment, or the news that caused them to become vengeful spirits."

Shane "saw" several terrifying-looking ghosts emerging around them. These ghosts gathered nearby watching him, seeming to be waiting for something, or perhaps knowing Shane could see them and wasn't afraid of them, so they were ready to provide clues at any time.

"After separating from you during the day, I investigated this asylum. It was originally a psychiatric hospital. Years ago, a riot occurred, causing multiple deaths and missing bodies, including a doctor named Ellicott, who was also the chief of staff. Later, this place was abandoned."

Shane said he investigated, but actually, he was recalling the plot.

"Dr. Ellicott... forget it, let's call him the Dean. What he did really doesn't deserve the title of doctor. The Dean worked day and night, causing psychological problems. He had been using mental patients for experiments, trying to achieve therapeutic purposes by releasing the patients' anger. But the result aroused even stronger violent emotions in the patients, leading to murder, and the riot occurred because of this."

"Angry and manic patients lost their rationality and occupied the hospital. They attacked doctors and also attacked each other. I guess it must have been very bloody at that time. Some people's bodies have never been found, including the Dean. The police searched the entire place. I guess the patients hid his body. That's pretty ruthless."

For ordinary people, not finding the body is a very painful thing, especially for the family of the deceased. Unfortunately, the patients didn't know the consequences of hiding the body.

"You mean, the message those ghosts convey is that they want us to solve the Dean's soul?" Kat asked speculatively.

Shane nodded.

When alive, the Dean tortured them. When a ghost, the Dean also didn't let them go. A person bad to the extreme is also stronger than ordinary people when becoming a ghost. This might be related to conviction/willpower.

The Dean's conviction was already strong enough that he had psychological problems while alive. Needless to say, after death, he was even more muddled. Shane remembered this guy could not only discharge electricity with his hands but also stimulate the anger in people's hearts, making people lose their rationality and become irritable and easily angered.
