Chapter 1 - Joan Apocalypse

"Ugh.."

A young man groans laying sprawled on the rocky ground.

'What happened to me?' This was the first thought that came into his mind.

He slowly sat up, his fluttering eyelids open slowly, revealing his pale eyes as he surveyed the surroundings in utter confusion.

A moment later, though, a strange light passed through them. He looked down, examining his own body. Then his eyes widen and his expression morphed into shock.

He thought the place was strange, but shockingly enough, the body wasn't his.

The young man's appearance looked to be in his teens, about 15-16 years of age. He had shoulder-length pale white hair and a thin physique, clad in torn work clothes.

"Don't tell me that I have…"

Unable to remain calm, he immediately stood. A slight frown was on his forehead, as if he was experiencing a little headache, but the disbelief deep inside his eyes was unmistakable.

"Transmigrated?!"

"No– no way… This should be a dream!" No matter how he tried to convince himself, the pain he was feeling all over his body gave him the bitter truth.

"I haven't even finished playing Princess Domination. My Princess Europa…"

His eyes shone with slight regret, and it took him some time to calm down, falling into thought.

'So those transmigrations in those novels actually work?'

As an avid enjoyer of the gerne it has always been his dream for something like this to happen. But seeing his new body, he was still having trouble believing the situation he was in.

Not to mention, years of memories started flooding into his head like unrelenting tides; his head felt a splitting headache from the sheer amount.

Just a moment ago, before he woke up here, he had been in the most terrifying moment of his life while delivering packages back on Earth.

"The fact that I'm here means I must have died. Argh, those bastard dogs! If I ever get the chance…" his cursing came to an abrupt end when he saw something in the space in front of him.

"Hm? What is this?!" Lines of words started to appear out of thin air.

At this point, his eyes were like saucers looking at the lines of text in the air.

"Is this for real?!" he mumbled.

He was shocked!

The memories of the original host were almost fully assimilated. From the memory, he had learned that he woke into the body of a young man named Joan, who was turning 16 tomorrow. Coincidentally, he found out that the young man also had the same name as him, but that wasn't what shocked him, but rather discovering a piece of information there.

"Status! Have I become Awakened?!"

"Haha, yes! That must be it!" Instant happiness overwhelmed him.

Normally, people in this world could become awakened upon reaching the age of 16, after participating in the awakening ceremony.

"But why can I only see my name and Path? Also, my Path… The Sun? Why does this sound so unusual?" he was confused, but when he moved his eyes beside it, his mouth opened in shock.

"A second Path! This should be a rare thing right?! I remember hearing only 1 to none in 10000 people awakened a second path!"

Becoming Awakened in this world grand special power, but what kind of special power they had was determined by one's Path. 'The Path' was the foundation of every awakener's power. So, having two Path though exceedingly rare meant more special power!

And he actually awaken two!

"But damn, I can't read it. Why?" he scratch his head in frustration.

Then he suddenly remembered the Awakening System mentioning partial awakening and thought in realization.

"Maybe I can't read anything because I haven't fully awakened yet?"

He thought his guess wasn't too farfetch but didn't know what to do about this because there wasn't any information of someone having a partial awakening.

"Well whatever, tomorrow the boy will turn 16 and there will also be mass awakening ceremony in the churches. I will know the truth by then. But for now, I should get out of this place first." Looking at the half-collapsed dark tunnel he shivered and slowly started to make in way out.

He was very careful to not make any noise though. The person of this body previously came here to make some money and he didn't die from the quake that shook the entire tunnel, instead, it was the work of a fierce dog-like monster he caught a glimpse of. Instantly after that, the person lost his vision and the memory came to an end.

'Its a doggo again?' His face twitch slightly and put in more effort to leave this hell hole without making his presence known; the last thing he wanted was the monster dog popping up in front of him.

"This sucks. The tunnel path is broken and is in such a mess that I barely recognised the way I came in. " He felt pain from the various brushes and cuts made by sharp rocks. But he gritted his teeth and continued. Luckily, not long after, he heard some noise that made his eyes light up.

Just some distance away, a few men dressed in working clothes with burning torches were all looking into the deeper region.

"Hey, I think I heard someone's footsteps!"

"Don't think, there are indeed footsteps; he must be a survivor! Hurry lets rescue him!"

Joan, hearing people's voices some distance away, was ecstatic.

I'm saved!

But at the same time, he was also nervous; after all he was not the same person that entered the tunnel.

'I should be fine– I should be fine, since I have all his memory now.' Swallowing tensely, he readied himself and shouted,

"Please help! I am down here!"

The men who were trying desperately to clear all the rubble to make a clear path were ecstatic

It was a human! They had been unsure whether the foot sounds they heard were a monster or a human.

"Kid, we are coming, don't worry!"

Joan didn't need to wait long. By now, the worker appeared with a fire torch, illuminating his face and his injury-ridden body.

"Little Joan! You survived?!"

A middle-aged man with dusty short hair and tired eyes recognized Joan and exclaimed in surprise.

Joan's heartbeats accelerated.

"Sir supervisor!" he recognised the man, he was the supervisor of this ruin and responsible for guarding the entrance

"Good, very good, you didn't have any grievous injuries. Thank the gods!" Upon closely inspecting him, the middle-aged man said in relief.

"You are lucky; almost too lucky. If only you had seen the other who made it back from this disaster… " He didn't continue and fell silent.

'Lucky? I was dead!' Joan thought.

"Besides, if you had died, we would've been in really great trouble."

A strange glint passed through Joan's eyes, knowing fell well the man had meant, and he felt a bit guilty. If he had really died here, these guys would be in real trouble.

"Well, I am fine; aren't I? Anyway, what actually happened to the ruin?"

Joan was confused about what happened outside to cause such a disturbance.

The group of men looks at each other and sighs in helplessness at his reply.

This young man was very good at giving them trouble. But they couldn't do anything but sigh away their frustration because the young man's identity was a little special.

"Actually, we don't know anything. We have already sent the message to the capital, and the higher-ups are currently investigating."

The supervisor said shaking his head and led Joan outside the tunnel.

Joan didn't say anything and eagerly followed the supervisor. 'This is one hell of a circumstance I have transmigrated into.'

"Little Joan, you should go to the church hospital and get your wound treated. You know that tomorrow is your important day, right?" Once they were outside, the supervisor reminded him of something.

"I'll, sir Supervisor." Joan looked around and responded a bit absent-mindedly, looking at the fantasy-like scenery of the new world.

"There were far too many casualties before you, and the hospitals will be packed. So go fast."

"Also, forget about coming here from tomorrow, I wouldn't let you enter even if it kills me."

After saying, he went back inside again with the others to wait for other survivors… if there were any.

Joan wave at them to thank them and turn to head back. The ruin was located in a poor forest near the kingdom, so it will took a little while to reach there on foot.

"Awakened!" he was excited.

Tomorrow he will turn 16, and it just so happens to be the day the churches will commence the awakening ceremony.
