Since none of the girls asked Lina about what had happened outside, she was perfectly happy to play dumb and keep quiet. She really did not want to discuss assassinations, rebellions, and other troublesome matters with them. In her mind, the room seemed like a peaceful little world where she could relax and chat with the girls about the things young women enjoyed. It was a rare opportunity to forget about the endless political schemes waiting for her outside. Suddenly, Lina understood why so many men liked keeping mistresses. Having a place where they could escape their responsibilities and enjoy a little peace really did seem appealing.
"Your Majesty, if there is nothing else, I shall take my leave."
While Lina was enjoying herself, the Duchess of Westminster remained rather tense. Perhaps the execution had frightened her, because her face still looked a little pale.
"You must be tired after such a long day. Go and get some rest, Madam."
