Chapter 33 - Slapping Emily Harper

Jeff Sterling, dressed in a GUCCI executive suit with his hair slicked back, chatted and laughed with Victoria Lang.

As he strode toward the red Porsche Panamera, if Jeff hadn't been Emily Harper's ex-husband, she would have mistaken him for some domineering CEO!

"That bastard, after divorcing me, he actually dressed up so handsomely!"

Emily felt a surge of jealousy. If she had known Jeff had such a CEO-like presence, she would have made him wear a suit and tie for the past three years.

At least when she had get-togethers with her classmates, she could bring him along and show him off.

In the distance, Jeff said to Victoria Lang, "Victoria, give me the car keys. It's inconvenient for you to drive in high heels."

Actually, Victoria Lang kept a pair of flat shoes in her car, which she changed into when driving.

But changing shoes in front of Chairman Sterling seemed rather impolite, so Victoria Lang handed the keys to Jeff.

"Thank you, Chairman Sterling."

Jeff took the keys and walked to the red Porsche Panamera that looked like a flame. Surprisingly, he went to the passenger side first and opened the door.

Victoria Lang was taken aback. "What is this...?"

Victoria Lang was confused. Didn't Jeff say he was going to drive? Why did he open the passenger door?

Jeff patted his head helplessly. "Ugh, I've gotten used to opening car doors for Emily Harper for the past three years."

Victoria Lang chuckled softly, then realized Jeff had actually opened the car door for her.

As Victoria Lang's superior, Jeff should have been the one having her open the door for him—not the other way around.

But since the moment had already begun, Jeff decided to act like a gentleman and said, "Ms. Lang, please."

Victoria Lang looked flattered and surprised. "Oh my god, Chairman Sterling personally opened the car door for me. I am so honored."

Jeff laughed and said, "What's the big deal? I've been opening car doors for Emily Harper for three years. Every time she got in or out of the car, I opened it for her."

Victoria Lang knew Jeff had been deeply hurt by Emily, and said, "That woman Emily Harper really doesn't know how lucky she was!"

Then Victoria Lang got into the car.

Upon seeing this, Emily angrily ran over and shouted:

"Jeff! You're shameless! You actually became Victoria Lang's dog!"

When Emily saw Jeff open the car door for Victoria Lang, she became even more certain that Jeff was Victoria Lang's bodyguard.

For the past three years, Jeff had only opened car doors for Emily and her parents. Now, however, he was opening car doors for another woman, which made Emily very uncomfortable!

"Emily Harper?"

Jeff looked at his ex-wife in surprise. He thought they were now strangers, but he didn't expect to see her again in less than a day!

Victoria Lang also hurriedly got out of the car, not understanding why Emily was here. If it was to discuss a project, shouldn't the Harpers have sent Michael?

Emily glared at Jeff and angrily rebuked him. "Jeff, do you have any self-respect at all! You actually knelt down before Victoria Lang, begging for her forgiveness, willing to be her dog!"

"Since you're willing to throw away your dignity, why didn't you kneel down and beg for my forgiveness back then? I gave you so many chances. If you had just knelt down and begged me, you would still be our Harper family's son-in-law..."

Jeff felt a surge of anger rising within him whenever he thought of what Emily had said:

"You have the nerve to ask me why I don't kneel down to you? The day before yesterday, you went to a hotel with that guy Ryan Caldwell, cheated on me, and now you want me to kneel down and beg for your forgiveness? Don't you think that's going too far!"

Emily pursed her lips. "What about the next few times? At yesterday's birthday banquet, I gave you a chance to kneel down and beg me. As long as you knelt down, I would tell Grandma not to divorce you, and you could still be my husband."

"And at the Four Seasons West Lake, if you knelt down and begged me, I wouldn't have called the police!"

"Both of you are kneeling—so why did you beg her and not me? I'm your wife, after all. Is it shameful to kneel before your wife?"

Jeff said, "It's not shameful to kneel before your wife, but it's shameful to kneel before a wife who has cheated on you! You did something to betray me, and instead of kneeling down to beg for my forgiveness, you make me kneel down to beg you?"

"I've really spoiled you for the past three years!"

Emily also became angry. "You spoil me? It's clearly me who spoiled you! I shouldn't have been so good to you, which has led to you becoming so unruly. Now the whole family is blaming me for not controlling you. If I had known, I should have made you kneel down and pour my foot bath water every day!"

Snap!

A resounding slap landed on Emily Harper's delicate and pretty face.

Emily was stunned. When she looked up, she saw that it was Victoria Lang who had hit her!

Victoria Lang couldn't stand it any longer and angrily said, "Emily Harper! You cheated first, and instead of reflecting on your actions, you say such things! As a woman, don't you feel ashamed?!"

Emily covered her pretty face, furious. "You... you dare to hit me?"

Victoria Lang snorted coldly. "I'll hit you whenever I want. Do I need to pick a day?"

Victoria Lang wasn't afraid of her at all. In terms of status in Riverforge's business circles, Emily Harper—a woman who wasn't even valued in her own family—was simply not qualified to compare with Victoria Lang.

Emily didn't dare fight Victoria Lang; Victoria Lang's aura and abilities were far beyond her reach.

She looked aggrieved, tears welling in her eyes. "You stole my man, and you even dared to hit me?"
