Chapter 2 - Two

ROSE.

The place was filled with influential people. I felt out of place, but I had a goal so I kept my head high and fixed the tight black dress I was wearing.

A server walked past and I took a glass of champagne looking for my target in the crowd. I spotted the older woman talking to a man who looked like he just got out of jail with inked skin and dark eyes.

I swallowed but I wasn't going to back down, if I show any weakness and cower in their presence then I won't survive.

This is for Reid.

I walked in their direction and the man pinned me with a glare when I got closer, I bowed slightly standing in front of them.

Mrs Gillian Marcelo raised an eyebrow at me probably trying to recall if she has ever seen me my face before.

She looked like an evil stepmother, dressed in a fitted gown with heavy makeup to cover her wrinkled face, diamond earrings and necklace catching the light.

"May I have a word in private, ma'am?" I requested, the man took a step forward and she raised one hand making him stop in his tracks.

Must be her bodyguard.

"It's okay Donovan, let's hear what the pretty girl has to say" She waved off, I heard she was at odds with her stepson.

They hate each other. I have done my homework and researched everything I could find on the mafia family including their rivals but I needed an inside man.

"I'm here to make a preposition, I want to work with you" I stated her brown eyes sparkled in amusement.

"And what exactly can you do for me?" She scoffed.

"I think we both want the same thing. Caelin Marcelo" I called, she sneered and gestured for her guard to leave.

"Did he send you here?" She glared.

"I want him dead" I added and her scowl contorted into a smile.

"Isn't that what we all want, darling" She chuckled.

"I need to get inside his clan, please help me and I will not let you down" I pleaded.

And by the end of the night I was in.

~Few days later~

Working as a maid wasn't on my vision board before I graduated, I had a life and I wanted to help with my family business, I had it all figured out.

Until someone ruined that for me.

"Scrub harder unless you want to use your fingernails to scrap off the dirt" Madame Tovia ordered.

She was the head maid in the Vipers manor.

Every maid here was brought against their will, each with a different story. It made me wonder what kind of animal Caelin was kidnapping these women and forcing them to work for him.

My hatred for him seems to grow every day.

The worst part is that I haven't set my eyes on the bastard since I came here. It was frustrating because I didn't come here to work.

"You, go check if they're done in the kitchen!" Madame Tovia pointed at me and I left quickly glad to be getting some rest, my hands were starting to ache.

As I headed for the main mansion, a fleet of exotic cars drove into the manor, my curiosity made me slow down to see who it was.

The men hanging around rushed to stand in a strange formation like they were waiting for....

Could it be the boss?

Caelin Marcelo?

One man with a rifle walked to open the door of a Rolls Royce Phantom and a shiny black shoe landed on the ground followed by another. I was aware I was standing and watching now instead of pretending to be tired.

A tall man with broad shoulders stepped out of the car, his back was turned to me and I waited while he talked to his men.

It was definitely him, the aura was cold and suffocating and the men looked terrified.

Then he turned.

My breath ceased for a moment.

He was good-looking, I had expected a ugly inked bald headed bastard. Not this... Brown hair perfectly styled, a well sculptured face with sharp jawline that could pass as a knife, his midnight blue eyes made him look like a charming gentleman dressed in an Armani suit but I knew better.

I fought with the urge to charge at him and stabbed his chest with my hair pin.

He turned in my direction and I quickly looked away rushing inside the house. I will appear to him as a maid who was caught where she wasn't supposed to be.

Soon.

Soon I will get my revenge, I just have to be patient for now.

I watched him from the shadows after that day, the more I watched him the more I wanted to get this over with. I couldn't wait for the part where the bastard dies if I could make time faster then I would do it.

I also noticed how he treated his step brother, Madam Gillian's son Hayden was as quiet as a mouse, he barely speaks more than three words a day and everyone treated him badly including Caelin.

I felt bad for him but I know his mother is trying to get rid of Caelin for him.

"Was I not clear enough?" Caelin's cold deep voice filtered through the walls of the kitchen.

The other maids were quiet and busy but I was engrossed in what he was saying, "I told you to secure the shipment and make sure nothing is missing" He added I heard the unmistakable cork of a gun.

"Boss please I-"

Three gunshots resonated inside my head and five maids hurried out of the kitchen instantly, my hands were trembling when I realized what just happened.

He killed the man.

I risked walking to the door to see for myself, crimson pooled on the marble tiles in the living room, I gasped still shaken up I returned to my duty ignoring the voices in my head.

The absurdity of my mission hit me all at once.

How will I get my revenge on this monster?

My eyes strayed to one of the maids preparing his coffee, I watched as she added a weird powder I have never seen before and looked around before putting it inside her dress.

My eyes widened in shock and it seemed like no one noticed.

If she takes that to him and he drinks it and survives, we are all dead!

If he doesn't survive I won't get my revenge on him.

I watched her take the drink out while we set the table, I need to think fast before this idiot gets us killed.

Caelin left the living room to the dining area and sat down, I was the only maid left fixing the cups that were already perfectly set in place.

Think faster Rose!

I avoided his gaze although I could feel his eyes on me, I gulped and bowed before walking away.

It's now or never, if he survives I will be joining my brother in the afterlife as a failure, I refuse to be a coward or die like one.

I halted and turned, he had taken the cup and was about to drink it.

"Sir wait!" I blurted out before I knew it, I was reaching for the cup.

He glared as I took the cup and drank the content.

The other men inside the house started yelling, my eyes watered when a tight feeling stirred in my chest I stumbled back grasping for breath, loud ringing in my ears tuned out the shouts from his men, my vision blurred and I was falling.

I cursed the girl internally, my plan to lay low was ruined.

All I could think of at that moment was if this was how Reid felt before he gave up.

My head hit the hard ground and darkness enveloped me.
