Adelyn's brows furrowed.
For a second, she almost didn't catch his words. And when she finally did, they confused her until she understood exactly what he was talking about.
Her cheeks flushed at once, and she stared at him, her pupils dilating on their own.
"M-Mr. Warren, I—I think there's some sort of misunderstanding," she almost stuttered.
She had never stuttered before, but the proximity between them was making her extremely nervous.
And more than nervous, it was doing something strange to her.
She tried to lean away from him, desperately attempting to put some distance between them. But the table behind her only restricted her further, leaving her with nowhere to retreat.
"Misunderstanding?" he repeated, his voice carrying a quiet question.
And she nodded. "Yes, a misunderstanding," she said quickly. "You misunderstood me somehow, it seems. I—I never doubted your performance. How could I?"
