Chapter 1 - Peace of mind

Time: Present day

Ethan sits atop the academy roof, swaying his legs up and down while chomping down on his sandwich.

The wind flows through his curly brown hair. He took a huge breath while gulping down his sandwich.

'I wish it could always be like this'

He looks down at the students below, scattered around the campus like ants scavenging.

In a matter of minutes the sandwich was gone and devoured. He leaned forward over the edge, threatening to jump.

Just before his body could topple over the edge and become mince meat, Ethan pulled himself back and laid flat on the cold, hard concrete roof.

He closes his eyes as the sun's rays gently glide over his skin. With a heavy sigh Ethan felt the heavy weight on him get heavier.

'That damned blade'

As he was lost in thought he felt warm sunlight touching his face vanish and be replaced by ice cold darkness.

"Do you mind moving Jesse. I'm trying to get some sun," said Ethan as he covered his eyes with his hands.

"You're gentleman enough to not look up a girl's skirt at least," Jesse said as she squatted down over him.

A wicked smile spread across Ethan's face.

"If you don't move I'll be forced to take a peak."

Jesse chuckled as she put her own hands on his face.

"Oh please, father would kill you. So stop sulking and let's go,"

Jesse moved aside as Ethan got to his feet. He extended his hand to hers and pulled her into a passionate kiss.

They pulled apart and stared into each other's eyes. Just as they leaned in for another one the bell rung.

Ethan dropped his head in disappointment as Jesse laughed and dragged him along with her.

Hours of sitting and chatting in class passed. The last bell of the day rung and some students raced to leave while others continued to chat with their new friends.

Ethan and Jesse stood by the gate as they waited for their transport to arrive.

"I don't see the point of this anymore," he whined.

"It's our last year so just try and do it one more time," she retorted.

As the two chatted and chuckled a large sleek suv drove up and stopped infront of them.

The window on the passenger seat rolled down.

"Forgive me for my tardiness Ms Michel," the driver spoke.

"it's no problem, we just arrived," she replied.

They both enter as the car drives off into the bustling streets of the city. Ethan sighs as he looks out the window.

He watches as people chat, rush through or sit by the side of the road and wonders...

'Why can't it always be this peaceful'

As though the universe was listening to his thoughts, streaks of people rays flashed through the windows of the car.

Ethan glanced up and saw a rift opening in the sky and a giant spider leg pushing through as more and more pushed out.

'Ah. Speak of the devil'
