Chapter 1 - The beginning

Late November, 1980.

On a cold evening, a mother cooked quietly in the kitchen while her five-year-old daughter played in the living room.

''And that's why we shouldn't lie to others.'' the little girl said to her doll.

Outside the house, somthing moved.

A sillhouette emerged from the shadows, slowly approaching the window. The girl heard a soft tapping against the glass. She looked up and froze. A man stood there, his green eyes shining-eyes just like hers.

Carefully, he opened the window, only a crack, making sure not to make a sound.

''Hey,'' the stranger whispered.

''Come here.''

''Okay.'' The little girl replied.

As the child began to walk toward the window, her mother finished preparing dinner and stepped into the liveing room to get her daughter. What she saw made her heart stop.

Her child was moving toward the window, where a dark sillhouette waited.

Fear gripped her. Do i save my daughter... or leave her to the devil?

She didn't hesitate.

She ran forward, grabbed her dauhter by the arms, pulled her into a tight embrace, and rushed back to the kitchen. With shaking hands, she seized a knife and turend to face the intruder.

''If you don't leave right now, i'll kill you.'' the woman shouted, holding her crying child close.

The man smiled.

''Don't worry, child-bearer,'' he said calmly. ''One day, she will come to me on her own-and you won't be there to save her.''

Then he disappeared into the night, laughing.

''I'm sorry, sweetheart,'' the mother whispered, trembling. ''I'm so sorry, Edith.''

''I promise he won't come back and take you from me.''

Suddenly, frantic knocking echoed through the front door.

''Are you okay, Eira?'' a familiar voice called urgently.

''No!'' Eira cried as she ran to open the door.

''We need to go to your house for a while, if you don't mind.''

''I don't mind.'' replied her neighbor.

''Give me your daughter.'' said the woman-Casy.

That night, they left the house behind, seeking safety in her friend's home, hoping the darkness would not follow.
