Chapter 64 - Chapter 64: The Living Corpse's Night Raid

Cao Mei's body grew hotter, almost melting away. She sat in Jack's lap, but all of Jack's movements were almost entirely guided by her. Her small hands had long since caressed Jack's back, gently gliding back and forth, each time accurately finding Jack's sensitive spots, teasing him to the point of near inability to resist. Listening to his gradually heavy breathing, even though she was still kissing him, a hint of a smile curled at the corners of her mouth, her delicate hand sliding over Jack's waist, skillfully unzipping a zipper, and her hand followed inside.

Jack's whole body jolted, suddenly widening his eyes as he looked at Cao Mei, who was emitting various seductive sounds from her nose, and the triumphant smile in her eyes. In Cao Mei's astonished gaze, Jack pushed her away forcefully, standing up from the ground with a face full of anger, glaring fiercely at Cao Mei.

"Lin... Master Lin, what's wrong? I... I just thought you should relax a bit. Is there something wrong with that?" Cao Mei fell to the ground, looking at Jack with some fear.

"You were just laughing. What were you laughing at? Laughing at me being just an easily seduced man?" Jack stared at Cao Mei's timid eyes, his expression growing colder.

Caomei's face turned pale all of a sudden. She shook her head anxiously and said, "No, I really didn't. Lord Lin, you misunderstood me. I just... I just feel that you can finally accept me, and I am genuinely happy from the bottom of my heart!"

"Cao Mei…" Jack looked at her coldly and said in a lowered voice, "Can I still hear the truth from you? I thought of you as a woman with a conscience, but I hope you won't use the little respect I have for you to play with fire, as that will only burn you!"

"No, I really didn't, please believe me!" Cao Mei shook her head, full of grievance, tears sliding down from her red eyes. She looked at Jack almost pleadingly, choked with emotion as she said, "Master Lin… I'm really not that heartless a woman. I am sincere to you, I can swear to the heavens, please don't misunderstand me!"

"Whether it's a misunderstanding or not doesn't need an explanation. In a few days, when we find the gathering place, we will part ways and have no further ties. Whether it's true or false is for others to guess!" Jack frowned in annoyance and waved his hand at her, saying, "Alright, I'll keep watch tonight, you go to sleep!"

Seeing Jack's resolute expression, Cao Mei covered her face and began to cry softly. Jack, however, had no intention of comforting her. After a while, it seemed she cried herself out and staggered to her feet.

Looking at Jack's back, which was turned away from her, Cao Mei wiped her tears and said softly to his back, "I was indeed smiling just now, but the kind of smile you saw was definitely not aimed at you. If I was feeling proud, apart from being happy that you could accept me, it was probably just a bit of vanity as a small woman. After all, I can show off in front of Bai Ru in the future, there's really nothing else… I know you've already sentenced me to death in your heart. No matter what I say, you'll think I'm acting, so I won't argue anymore. I will only use my actions to prove my innocence. Master Lin… maybe you will never love me, but you can't stop me from loving you!"

Looking at Jack's seemingly unmoved back, Cao Mei's face fell. She gently bit her colorless lips and said to Jack, "It's cold, take care of yourself," before slowly dragging her somewhat heavy steps back.

Cao Mei's mind was in chaos. What should have been a beautiful thing had turned into a mess because of her overconfidence. Just as she was walking back with a face full of disappointment, she suddenly felt a strong wind rush from behind her. Before she could call out, she was forcefully knocked to the ground.

Smelling that familiar scent, Cao Mei knew without asking that it could only be Jack. She felt a surge of joy in her heart and didn't resist at all. Instead, she obediently closed her eyes, regardless of whether Jack was just venting his feelings. As long as he could forgive her, even if she could only become a tool for his release from then on, she would be satisfied!

"Run quickly…"

The storm she imagined did not come, but she heard Jack's urgent voice. Cao Mei instinctively opened her eyes, but just as she did, accompanied by a loud bang, she saw the gun in Jack's hand shoot out a dazzling flame. Immediately after, a dog-shaped zombie, only a little over a meter away from her, was hit by a bullet and flew several rolls, rolling in the sand while letting out a series of miserable howls.

"Run, get into the car!" Jack scrambled up from Cao Mei, his handgun wildly spraying bullets in all directions.

Cao Mei realized that she had misunderstood; Jack was not suddenly overwhelmed by his primal instincts to vent on her, but rather, at a critical moment, he had tackled her to save her from the attack of the living corpse dog. With no time to feel disappointed, Cao Mei turned and ran. She was shocked to find that dozens of living corpse dogs had quietly surrounded her at some point. These living corpse dogs were much more formidable than the average ones she had seen before, being several times more agile and vicious. However, she had never encountered so many of them at once; it was practically a large pack.

She knew that these zombie dogs were much stronger than ordinary zombies. Not only were they faster, but their brains were also much more effective than those of regular zombies. At least they understood how to cooperate with each other. Dealing with the same number of zombie dogs was significantly more difficult than with ordinary zombies. If they weren't careful, it was likely that all of them would end up as dog food tonight.

The speed of the zombie dogs is indeed very fast. Jack simply cannot achieve a fatal shot with his gun; when luck is against him, he often misses by one or two shots. The most critical issue is that these zombie dogs are well-versed in the tactic of feigning an attack. Just as Jack aims at the head of one zombie dog, another reckless one will charge at him. By the time he tries to aim at this one, another will come up behind him. In an instant, Jack has emptied two magazines, yet only a few zombie dogs have fallen. The clever zombie dogs leave Jack struggling to cope.

"Ah…"

Suddenly, while running, Cao Mei saw a decaying black zombie dog springing out from the slope. In the blink of an eye, it lunged at her with a mouth as big as a basin filled with blood. Cao Mei was so frightened that she froze, completely losing the composure she had when teasing Jack earlier, resembling a helpless little girl squatting there, only knowing to scream and cover her head.

  "嘣..."

As Cao Mei almost caught the stench from the mouth of the zombie dog, just when she thought she was surely doomed, the head of the zombie dog suddenly exploded in front of her, with a loud "bang," scattering red and black all over the ground.

"What are you dawdling for? Hurry up and run!" Jack shouted loudly while holding the gun. Only then did Cao Mei come to her senses, suppressing her heart that was almost about to leap out of her chest, and she ran towards the camp in big strides.

The people in the camp had already been awakened by Jack's gunfire. The girls, not bothering to put on their clothes, jumped out of their sleeping bags in their underwear. In their panic, they were like headless flies, frantically looking around in the darkness, unsure of where to hide.

"Hurry, get in the car, everyone get in!" At a critical moment, Bai Ru's clever mind proved useful; she knew that it was pitch black all around and nowhere was safe, and the only place to barely hide was inside the car.

Hearing Bai Ru's voice, everyone rushed towards the car in a frenzy. However, the situation tonight seemed to exceed everyone's expectations. The number of zombie dogs was not only large but also reached an unimaginable extent. There were definitely more than just the ones that had entangled Jack. Just as everyone was running towards the car, more than a dozen zombie dogs quickly charged up from the slope of the camp. Upon seeing so many people, the eyes of the zombie dogs immediately turned even redder.

Seeing the dozen or so live zombie dogs charging towards them, the girls panicked even more, desperately trying to scramble into the car. However, once the crowd became chaotic, accidents were bound to happen. This was exactly what happened to Axue, who was running at the back. In her panic, she tripped over a sleeping bag on the ground and fell to the ground. Before she could even call for help, a Marcus zombie dog, covered in black blood, pinned her down, its mouth full of flesh chunks snapping down towards her with a nauseating breath...
