Chapter 1 - Chapter One: A Tale As Old As Time

Robert Rampton. A man who was between 25 and 30 years of age, was currently dressed up with a white collared buttoned up shirt with cuffs and a black buttoned up blazer on top of the shirt. He had a brown belt wrapped around his midsection and matching slim black suit trousers. Upon his feet were black laced leather shoes that worked alongside the rest of his outfit.

He had a light brown skin tone with dark brown eyes and black hair that was combed in a neat fashion and he had just shaved, overall it could be said he looked rather presentable which is the look he was going for as today was a special day.

See Robert did well back in his school days, however some bad luck and poor decisions led to him having to take multiple jobs that payed poorly, but he had to work in order to make money to pay back debts and generally survive. He honestly thought the rest of his life would be miserable, but about a week ago whilst working he was out of the blue conversed with by a man who knew alot about him and his particular situation who offered him a job and a date to come by for an interview.

Whilst it was a strange meeting Robert did accept as he thought that perhaps this was his chance to earn more money than ever before, as well as, finally show his worth by participating in a real job much like his friends had before he cut contact with them as life became more hectic.

Today was the day of that interview and with a few more touches Robert was off, as he headed downstairs and out the main door of his house. He took one of the local buses of new York city as he currently has no car or other way of travel. Once he had arrived close enough to the location he had to head too he would thank the bus driver and hop off the bus and headed towards the omnibus, yet impressive structure that was looming above all other buildings and that pierced the clouds with its rather triangular and sharp form. Endless glass windows pertruded ever upwards, yet never truly revealed the wonderous world hidden within. It was most certainly a strange design, but gave off this overwhelming feeling of importance and grandness.

Robert made his way through the metal doors of the entrance for the building known exclusively as the Heavenly Sword which has history stemming all the way back to the 1970s. How did he know this? No idea, it all simply flowed into his mind from the void itself

Robert once inside saw chairs, tables, doors and flowers all set up so people could wait in comfort within this lounge like area with white walls and various artistic works spread across that Robert swore we're moving, but decided quickly that he was just tired as he had won up early or was stressed and so was seeing things.. Robert saw some people waiting by what seemed like a receptionist desk and once the line had depleted, he would ask the individual stationed there where he had to go after explaining he was here for a interview.

Robert felt nervous as this was a chance to improve his life in a large way, yet faliure was always an option so with a little shake to repel the nerves he was feeling. He would, after hearing what the female receptionist had to say, would head towards a room labelled 1-A Introductions and walk inside. It was impossibly lacking of any light, but in front of himself something eventually was shining down upon a seat, and so with a confused expression Robert cautiously filled the empty space.

Slowly, he bent his knees and placed his bottom on the brown, soft and grainy feeling chair. A large black rectangular screen descends from above and is a few inches in front of Robert at the perfect height so that Robert could see it clearly. After a few moments of pure silence and inactivity, the screen brightly lights up, and Robert had to shut his eyes due to the sudden attack caused by the surprising brightness.

"Hello "

A man with long orange hair, green eyes, and a lab coat exclaims energetically to Robert. Behind the man were several desks, people typing away upon keyboards connected to black screens, and what seemed to be the corpse of a large reptile with green wings hanging from the ceiling with dozens of dreaded eyes, twisted limbs of madness and what could only be described as a hypnotic pull towards its peculiar figure.

"Well done for making it this far. Robert you've proven yourself and worked hard. Your reward is being apart of the greatest organisation the world has ever seen known as the Saints.

He then suddenly became silent.

"Apologies. One moment while I let this gentleman pass."

The man stated calmly as a screaming half human, half moose sprints past the man talking, and the sound of explosions going off could be heard.

"Now where was I? Ah. yes. Welcome. I need to keep this short, so I'll get straight to the point. We have taken upon ourselves the task of keeping the world safe from gods, spirits, aliens, etc or alternatively we have given them a name that describes them in a very simple manner. Anomalies."

The man stated calmly, but his hands once open now took the shape of fists tightly clenched.

"You name it, and we've most likely seen it. This video will be a brief introduction to the world you're about to step into, so feel free to be confused as this will be quite the unorthodox situation you have found yourself in."

The man stated this with a smile on his face, yet his eyes twitched violently.

"To begin with, I`ll mention now that our headquarters, the Heavenly Sword, is far larger than it may even seem from the outside. As it turns out, our headquarters itself is something ancient and benevolent. Nonetheless, all the floors possess particular sectors that you may need to utilise in the future. For example, floor 72 has a particular sector called the Clown Pit, and no, it does not actually have any clowns, but we recommend not entering that sector unless you want to lose your eyes. Haha. Poor james."

The man's expression shifted from smiles to expressionless to smiles as sweat seem to slide down his brow.

"Anyways. You should make sure to memorise as much as you possibly can when it comes to each floor as well as memorise your own working space, and it's best to have multiple copies of any documents as you never know when an imp demon may appear out of a portal and eat it."

A wide smile upon his face. Very wide. Mouth stretching like rubber about to snap.

"That's all for now. Please head to the reception desk and they will guide you to where you need to be. once again, welcome to the Saints organisation. Hopefully, we can keep the world safe together."

He is seen turning to his left with his eyes gradually becoming wider and a red liquid splashing against his body, however the video then flashes off and becomes a darkened screen once more as Robert would stand and walked out the door of the room into a corridor.

"....was that?..."

Robert stood there. Total silence. The seconds passing on by.

"So…..do I quit?"

He said to the nothingess in front of himself.

"I should quit right? An average man like me has no place here…."

His eyes slowly shift to the end of the corridor which links back into the lounge.

"......better pay. Seemingly interesting. Maybe…just maybe…this is the chance I needed."

A small smile appearing on his face.

"Sure it's a…little…strange, but this still beats talking to customers and being payed barely enough to say that I was living."

He then started walking down the corridor.

"Yeah. I'll give it a shot. I always try my best, so perhaps this is a reward? Something I earned by working hard. Yeah. A reward. I'll give it a go. If I don't at least try then ill never know if this was my calling. Yeah. It'll be fine."

Robert made his way through the lounge, past the six armed people, past the bookshelf that was dancing whilst on fire, past the box that walked through the air and with a smile on his face made his way over to the receptionist desk once again. Before he could even speak however the woman spoke

“The third room to your right”

Robert blinked a couple times at that, he was confused but simply nodded and made turned to see a door had seemingly manifested three doors away from where he stood and he knew with every fiber of his limited understanding of reality that door had not been there and yet, despite all the horror tropes of every horror move and story ever made, he made his way over
