Chapter 8 - Ch.8. 1995 Mystery

The memorial was over not long after the blowing out of candles. Everyone vacated, from the sky view it looked like the map tearing in tiny shreds. In the dispatching crowd, the Mayor caught a quick glance off Principal Dawson before she disappeared into the crowd. The rain was still pattering on the stones and grass, he signal the his security team behind him for his departure and with immediate effect, a shiny black car stopped in front of him and one of the member of the security team opened the back door waiting for the Mayor to get right in. He took one last look at the empty hall before he stepped inside the car. The door was shut, and they drove off into the pouring rain.

Alex took the bus home, he foster dad Adam was a history teacher and knew a lot of great stuff, but he wasn't close to him to ask him some kind of personal question like, what made Emma concerned when he mentioned 1995 Mystery. The memorial brings a lot of memories, and if he ever wanted to find out what it meant, he would seize the opportunity. The four boys had dozed off immediately after they reached home. Adam sat on the sofa and turned on the news. Alex was getting ready for bed when he heard his name "Alex, how are you holding up?"

"I'm good, I think," Alex replied. "I feel better"

"And the special library program?" Adam asked with a face that was expecting a positive answer.

"It's working"

He knew the only time; the one time he got something different from the program was the last time, and it was also the exact day Jolie passed. "Look, Alex," Adam said concerned, "with what happened in school recently, I can find you another school if you find it uncomfortable."

Alex assured Alex he had no issues but to real question kept bothering him. Thunder rumbled from a distance; Adam stood and was about making his way to bed.

"I need your help," Alex said sharply.

Adam stopped walking and turned to face him from the stairs "carry on then!" He replied.

"What is the 1995 mystery?"

Adam's face, like Emma's expressed shock, the thunder a beautiful touch to his bizarre face.

"Something that should never happen again" Adam responded in a serious tone. "By the way, you should not know about that" He added.

Alex had to fabricate a lie not to tell him about the dream. He lied he heard a staff member at school talking about it.

"You are skipping school tomorrow; I got you covered." Adam assured him.

The following morning, during working hours, the streets of Town Port were thrown into turmoil as three cars sped through the town. Two black vehicles led and trailed the convoy, with a white car positioned between them. Their destination was TownPort High, where the vehicles screeched to a halt in the school's parking lot.

The Mayor stepped out of the white car, flanked by three members of his security detail. From each of the black cars, four armed guards emerged, moving with swift precision toward the school. Some took up positions around the perimeter, weapons ready, while others advanced through the hallways, ordering loitering students to clear the area. Two guards remained close to the Mayor as they escorted him directly to Principal Dawson's office.

Principal Dawson was expecting a visit from the Mayor right after the memorial. Anyway, she opened the entrance door giving Mayor access as the security officers positioned themselves at both ends of the backing of the office. He took off his eyeglasses as he sat down on a comfy couch opposite Dawson's.

"Mayor," Dawson said in a warm smile, "it was long expected."

He chuckled then drummed his fingers on the table; his eyes caught the frame of honour hanging. "I see you are still holding up to standard after all these years,"

"My foremost strict duty." She affirmed.

"Back to business," the Mayor said, adjusting himself to the seat. He brought out the paper with Jolie on the front page and slid it over to her. She looked at the paper, then waited for him to speak.

"Care to explain?" He asked.

"She was an elite class student who for no obvious reasons started having low grades." Dawson replied calmly. "Her death was a shock to me."

"And you don't have a hand in this?" He asked seeking clarification "no policies, rules and the likes."

"None." She answered immediately.

She was almost studying the Mayor impressions and she knew exactly what would make him concerned about the life of a teenager. She stood and got a drink then poured for herself and the Mayor. He stared at her and said, "it's been fifteen years."

"I know, and I will do everything within my power to stop it from happening." She assured him. "We found a body so this is a natural cause I can assure you that."

His gave the face like he was looking for reasons not to believe but the evidence was clear, there was a body. He took the shot down his throat and stood to take his leave. He walked to the door and stopped abruptly then turned back and said "find out if anyone had a vision of the entity"

The red car stopped in front of a house; Adam unbuckled his seatbelt, and Alex did the same. They stepped out of the car, and the driver drove off as they both were lit. They walked past the mini house garden and all the way up the stair's way. Adam pushed the doorbell as it rang loudly then stepped backward. To Alex shock, Emma opened the door, she saw Alex and Adam. She was in a chef's apron to cover her gown; she still had the spatula on her left hand.

"Hey," she said in a slight wave of hand.

Adam smile and responded "hey, I need your help."

The moment she saw Alex, she knew what was going on. Adam said, "It might happen again."
