Chapter 7 - chapter 7

The river had not yet calmed.Crimson and silver still flickered faintly across its surface.

Then,The air shifted.

Kaelith felt it first.

Lyra turned just as the wind cut sideways across the riverbank.A tall figure stood at the edge of the trees.

Unmoving and watching them.

The Alpha.

His coat moved slightly in the breeze, golden eyes glowing faintly beneath calm composure.

"Well," he said smoothly, voice carrying effortlessly across the water, "this is intimate."

Kaelith's expression hardened instantly. The air around him grew warmer.

"You should have stayed in the mountains."

The Alpha's lips curved.

"And miss this reunion?"

He stepped closer.Each step deliberate.

He stopped at the riverbank, gaze sliding from Kaelith To Lyra and back.

"So this," he said thoughtfully, "is the catalyst."

Kaelith moved slightly in front of Lyra.

The gesture subtle.Possessive.The Alpha noticedand smiled.

Then he turned toward the open ruins and raised his voice slightly, as if addressing an unseen audience.

"For those who have forgotten," he said calmly, "let me reintroduce him."

Golden light flickered faintly around his irises.

"This is Kaelith Draven."

The name echoed against broken stone.

"First King of the Monster Clans. Unifier of beasts. Breaker of borders."

A pause.

"And the immortal tyrant who believed the world should kneel."

Crimson flared violently around Kaelith.

The river hissed into steam.

The Alpha continued, voice smooth but edged.

"He was not sealed because he was weak."

His golden gaze sharpened.

"He was sealed because he would not stop."

Lyra felt the tension shift. This wasn't just rivalry. It was ideology.Kaelith stepped forward into the river again.

Water recoiled from his skin.

"And this," Kaelith replied coldly, "is the Alpha who calls betrayal balance."

Golden light erupted around the werewolf.

His form shifted partially claws extending, pupils thinning, aura expanding like a controlled wildfire.

"I call survival balance," the Alpha corrected.

ThenHe movedwith no warning.No roar.Just speed.Gold and crimsoncollided mid-river.

The impact split the water in a towering arc.

Shockwaves rippled through the ruins.

Stone pillars cracked. The sky darkened unnaturally. They struck with precision.

No wasted movement.No animal frenzy.

Two rulers......Two predators.

Kaelith grabbed the Alpha by the throat and hurled him across shattered marble.

The Alpha twisted midair, landing smoothly, claws tearing into stone to stop momentum.

"You still fight with rage," he called out.

"And you still hide behind calculation," Kaelith answered, launching forward again.

Their powers clashed in violent bursts of light.

Crimson flame met golden force.

The ground caved beneath them.

Lyra shielded herself as energy spiraled outward in violent waves.

The Alpha lunged low, claws grazing Kaelith's sideBut the wound sealed instantly.Immortality pulsed visibly beneath his skin.

Golden eyes narrowed.

"You see?" the Alpha said sharply. "This is why you cannot rule."

Kaelith struck him across the jaw with devastating force.

"And this," Kaelith replied, "is why you cannot win."

The Alpha staggered slightly Just slightly. For the first time, blood touched his lip.

He wiped it away calmlynd smiledand smiled.

But this time—But this time—

There was something else in his gaze. Not just challenge.

Recognition.

Lyra stepped forward, silver light igniting around her.

"Enough!"

Her power exploded outward in a blinding surge. Both forces staggered.Even Kaelith turned toward her instinctively. The Alpha watched her carefully....

Not threatened.

Intrigued.

"You chose quickly," he said softly.

Lyra's jaw tightened.

"I chose who stood beside me."

Golden eyes flicked briefly to Kaelith.

Then back to her.

"That is not the same as choosing destiny."

The words lingered......Heavy.

Kaelith moved again faster, harder driving the Alpha backward across fractured ground.

This time the Alpha yielded. Not defeated.

Strategic.

He straightened slowly, golden aura dimming.

"You are stronger than before," he admitted calmly.

Kaelith's crimson eyes burned brighter.

"And you are predictable."

The Alpha's lips curved again.

"This was never about defeating you today."

He looked at Lyra one last time.

"You awakened because of her."

A pause.

"And she will be the reason you fall."

Golden mist began to coil around him. Before disappearing, he added quietly

"The war never ended, Kaelith."

And then he was gone.Silence crashed down over the ruined kingdom.Crimson flickered.

Silver shimmered.

And for the first time in a century

The three forces of the old world had stood on the same battlefield again.

Silence lingered long after the Alpha vanished. The river slowly rejoined itself.

The sky lightened slightly. But the air still carried the echo of gold and crimson colliding.

Kaelith stood motionless.

Watching the place where his enemy had disappeared.

Lyra stepped closer.

"You knew he would come."

"I knew he was watching," Kaelith corrected.

She studied his expression. This wasn't rage anymore. It was something older.More complicated.

"Who is he really?" she asked quietly.

Kaelith's jaw tightened.

"He calls himself the Alpha."

A pause.

"But his true name is Eryx Vaelor."

The name felt sharp in the air.

"He was not always my enemy," Kaelith continued.

Lyra's brows lifted slightly.

"You were allies?"

"For a time."

He began walking slowly through the ruined pillars. She followed.

"Eryx was born under rare alignment," Kaelith said calmly. "A pure-blood Alpha. Stronger than ordinary werewolves. Faster. Smarter."

A faint, reluctant respect flickered in his tone.

"He could control partial transformation without losing reason."

Lyra remembered the way golden claws had appeared and vanished.

"He doesn't fight wildly," she said softly.

"No," Kaelith replied. "He fights to win."

They stopped near the broken throne platform.

"He believed in balance," Kaelith continued. "In limitation of power."

"And you didn't," Lyra said gently.

A faint smirk.

"I believed in order."

Silence stretched between them.

"He was the first to stand beside me when I united the monster clans," Kaelith said. "He called me brother."

The word lingered.

Brother.

Lyra felt the weight shift.

"And then?"

"And then humans grew afraid," Kaelith replied. "They whispered to him."

He turned slightly toward her.

"They told him I would never stop expanding. That immortality would corrupt me."

"And did it?" she asked carefully.

His eyes flashed briefly.

"Power does not corrupt," he said quietly. "It reveals."

That answer did not fully comfort her.

"He chose them," Kaelith continued. "Chose balance over loyalty."

Lyra folded her arms slightly.

"Or survival."

Kaelith's gaze sharpened.

"You defend him?"

"I understand perspective," she replied calmly.

For a moment, tension flared again.

Then faded.

"He is dangerous," Kaelith said finally. "Not because of strength."

"Because of patience," Lyra finished.

A faint nod.

"Yes."

He stepped closer to her again.

"Eryx does not strike recklessly. If he approaches you again, it will not be for battle."

Lyra's pulse shifted slightly.

"What will it be for?"

Kaelith's crimson gaze darkened.

"To influence you."

The word felt heavy.

"He knows you are central," Kaelith said. "He will not waste power trying to overpower you."

Lyra looked toward the horizon.

"He said destiny."

Kaelith's jaw tightened.

"He believes your kind once ruled before monsters."

Her eyes flickered silver faintly.

"And you?"

He studied her for a long moment.

"I believe," he said quietly, "you are not accident."

Silence fell again.

The wind moved softly through the ruins.

"Is he stronger than you?" Lyra asked suddenly.

Kaelith's expression shifted.Amusement flickered.

"He is formidable."

"That wasn't my question."

He stepped closer.Close enough that the heat between them returned.

"No," he said calmly. "He is not stronger than me."

A pause.

"But he is not weaker either."

That honesty carried weight.Lyra exhaled slowly.

"So this is not over."

Kaelith's gaze drifted to the distant mountains.

"It never was."

Then he looked back at her.

"But understand this."

His voice lowered.

"If Eryx attempts to claim you as part of his balance…"

Crimson flared faintly around him.

"I will not respond as calmly next time."

Lyra held his gaze.

"You don't own me."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"I do not claim ownership."

A pause.

"I claim protection."

The difference was subtle but important. The ruined kingdom felt smaller suddenly.Like a stage waiting for war.High above, thunder rolled faintly.Lyra's silver bracelet hummed again.

And somewhere far beyond the mountains

Golden eyes opened once more.
