Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Archive of the Lost and the Ghost in the Ledger

The Jedi Temple Archives were a cathedral of silent light, where the blue glow of data-stacks stretched toward a vaulted ceiling that seemed to house the very breath of history. In the center of a secluded research bay, Revan Shan was currently knee-deep in what he called a "Sentimental Audit." Arranged on a table of polished basalt were the 52 ancient Jedi lightsabers he had liberated from the trash-heaps of Lotho Minor.

"Right then, Miner, focus," Revan said, popping a lemon candy and squinting through a high-magnification jeweler's loupe. "Hilt number 34. According to my 10th Doctorate in Galactic History & Advanced Archaeology, this is a classic Niles-Ferrier design, likely mid-Old Republic. The weight suggests a heavy focus on Form V Shien, but the emitter shroud has been modified for underwater use."

M1-NR (Miner), the silver Librarian Protocol Droid, recorded the data into a high-fidelity Kyber-Quantum ledger. "Observation: The crystal inside is cracked, Master Shan. Its resonance is... mournful."

"It's not mournful, Miner, it's just out of tune," Revan corrected, his voice dropping into the 11th Doctor's soft, rapid-fire cadence. He reached out with the Force, utilizing a microscopic application of Force Heal on the crystal's lattice structure. The hilt hummed, a pale blue light flickering for a second before stabilizing. "There. A bit of kindness for a piece of the past. It's not carrying out justice; it's just making sure the light doesn't forget how to shine."

Behind them, the Archive's tranquility was shattered by a muffled thud and a series of high-pitched giggles.

The Big Brother Protocol

Revan didn't look up. "Thirty seconds, Miner. That's how long they've been trying to 'stealth' toward my position."

A group of seven Initiates—none older than eight—pounced from behind a stack of memory-crystals. A young Rodian boy managed to grab the hem of Revan's black Phrik-weave robes.

"Got you, Master Maverick!" he chirped.

Revan spun around with a theatrical gasp, his eyes wide with mock terror. "Oh, the humanity! Captured by the feared 'Dust-Bunny Brigade'! Whatever shall I do? My 3rd Doctorate in Sentient Sociology didn't prepare me for such a tactical pincer maneuver!"

He spent the next hour ignoring his work to teach them "Force-Shadow-Tag," a game where the children had to sense his presence using only the Force while he utilized Mechu-deru to make the surrounding droids and terminals emit confusing electronic "chirps." To the Council, this was a waste of a Knight's time. To Revan, it was the only thing in the Temple that felt real.

"Be nice, little ones," he told them as they were eventually ushered away by a stern-looking Padawan. "Do good. But never fail to be kind. And if anyone tells you that a Jedi shouldn't laugh, tell them they need to audit their soul."

Sparring with the Sages

Later that evening, the training salles were empty save for three figures. The air in the Room of a Thousand Fountains was humid and smelled of blooming stone-moss.

Master Sol stood in a centered Soresu stance, while Grandmaster Yoda sat on a floating meditation stool, his eyes half-closed. Revan stood opposite them, his Balanced Purple and Natural Red blades unignited, his hands resting casually on his belt.

"The Force is a feeling, Revan," Sol said, his voice echoing the lessons he had given many Padawans. "You analyze it like a physics problem. You calculate the trajectory of the light before it leaves the hilt."

"Because it is a physics problem, Sol," Revan countered wittily, igniting his purple blade with a sharp snap-hiss. "According to my 1st Doctorate in Theoretical Physics, the Force is the ultimate medium. If I know the density of the air and the thermal output of your blade, I don't need to guess where you're going to strike. I already have the answer."

"Hmph," Yoda rasped, his eyes snapping open. "Math, you have. But the song of the Force... hear it, you do not, when the numbers are too loud."

The sparring session was a masterclass in contrasting styles. Sol was a wall—unmoving, defensive, and patient. Revan was a lightning storm—utilizing Form VI Niman to transition between lightsaber strikes and subtle Force-maneuvers. He used Force Repulse to keep Sol off-balance and Tutaminis to catch the glancing blows of Sol's blue blade.

But then there was Yoda. The ancient Master didn't move; he simply was. When Revan struck, Yoda wasn't there. When Revan tried to calculate Yoda's vector, the green Master changed the variable mid-flight.

"Brilliant!" Revan laughed, parrying a strike from Sol while simultaneously dodging a playful tap from Yoda's cane. "You're an outlier, Master Yoda! You're the statistical anomaly that ruins the entire curve!"

"An anomaly, am I?" Yoda cackled. "Or perhaps... the only one in the room who knows that the curve is an illusion?"

They trained for hours, the only three souls in the Temple who seemed to understand that the "Golden Age" was merely a thin layer of gilt over a very complex reality. Sol understood Revan's heart; Yoda understood Revan's mind. And together, they were the only reason the Maverick Knight hadn't already jumped to the next galaxy.

The Data Audit: Preparing the Spare Keys

When the Temple went dark, Revan returned to the Archives. But he wasn't looking at sabers anymore. He sat at a terminal, his Kyber-Quantum Slicing tool humming as it interfaced with the Jedi High Command's primary database.

"Miner, initialize the background backup," Revan whispered.

*"Master Shan, this data is classified under 'Council-Eyes Only'," * Miner noted, his silver optics flickering.

"Exactly. And the Council is currently wearing blinders," Revan said, his voice turning into the 12th Doctor's pragmatic rasp. "I'm backing up the Hyperspace Lane Charts, the Tactical Command Codes, and the coordinates for the Forgotten Jedi Hideouts from the High Republic's early expansion. If the 'Grand Plan' I sensed on Muunilinst succeeds, the Jedi are going to lose the keys to their own house. I'm just making sure there's a spare set under the mat."

> The Tactical Data Compression Algorithm (\Delta_{tc}):

> Revan utilized his 9th Doctorate in Advanced Mathematics & Logic Programming to compress four millennia of Jedi tactical data into a single, high-density packet within his Personal Holocron. It wasn't theft; it was redundancy.

"Done," Cortana reported via his gauntlet. "The backup is secure. I've also finished the remote scan of the Prodigal Knight on Lehon. The SF-Series Droid prototypes have successfully integrated the 'Sarcasm' sub-routines. They are now 40% more efficient and 100% more annoying."

Shadows in the Dark: The Breakaway

While Revan was securing the past, the present was starting to fray. From his orbital satellites, Revan received a blip of data originating from the Outer Rim.

The "Smiling Man," Qimir, was on the move. But he wasn't moving with the corporate grace of Darth Plagueis or the clinical intent of Darth Tenebrus. He was moving like a wounded animal. He and Mae were tracking Osha Aniseya once again.

"They've broken away," Revan mused, watching the holographic trail on his gauntlet. "Tenebrus and Plagueis have gone corporate. They're buying senators and manipulating trade routes—playing the 'Normal People's Game.' Qimir... he's staying in the Abyss. He's the ghost that doesn't want to become a CEO."

"Should we interfere, Revan?" Cortana asked. "They are approaching Jedi space."

"No," Revan said, popping a final lemon candy. "As long as they aren't building planetary-scale genocide machines or starting a war in front of my ship, they aren't my business. Qimir is a consequence of the Order's mistakes. Osha is a variable that has to solve itself. I'm not a cop, Cortana. I'm an adventurer."

He looked at the 52 sabers on the table.

"I've got enough work here to last me another six months. The Sith can have their spreadsheets, and the Renegades can have their vendettas. I'm going to finish cataloging these hilts, and then... I think I'm going to go buy another bowl of those Level 1313 noodles. I hear they've added a spicy Corellian shrimp to the menu."

The Sovereign's Patience

The middle of 124 BBY was a period of stagnant peace for the galaxy, but for Revan Shan, it was a period of immense growth. His Force Immortality was stable, his ship was the most powerful vessel in the known universe, and he had successfully audited the history of the Order he served.

He wasn't in a rush. He knew the movies. He knew the timeline. He knew that in a few decades, a boy would be born on Tatooine, and a Senator from Naboo would start a war that would consume everything.

But for now, there was tea, there were younglings to play tag with, and there was a galaxy of junk waiting to be explored.

"Adventure is the journey, D6," Revan whispered to the R2 unit as they walked back to the Black Pearl for the night. "And I think I'm going to make this journey last as long as possible."

The Black Pearl sat silent in the Temple hangar, a ghost in a golden age. The Maverick was home, the audit was secure, and the shadows... well, the shadows were still just shadows.
