Chapter 152 - Chapter 171: The Abyss Audit and the Short of the Century

The transition from the manicured, bureaucratic silence of the High Council chambers to the oily, carbon-scored engineering deck of the Black Pearl was a localized relief that Revan Shan met with a smudge of axle grease on his cheek, a lukewarm spice-latte, and a very particular brand of 12th-Doctor-esque investigative intensity. As 35 BBY etched its coordinates into the galactic ledger, the "Prodigal Knight" decided that if the Republic was going to continue its rhythmic slide toward stagnation, he might as well build a backdoor to the universe.

"You see, Cortana," Revan murmured, his Sonic Screwdriver trilling as he calibrated the ship's Automatic Stealth Generator, "the Jedi believe the galaxy is a closed system. But according to my 6th Doctorate in Advanced Dimensional Mechanics, every system has a 'Stutter.' I remember a world called Tanalorr, hidden behind a localized spatial disaster. If the books ever get too untidy for the 96%, I want a place where the shadow can't follow."

The Sovereign Ledger: The Big Short

Before the "Abyss Audit" could begin, Revan had to balance the Maverick Trust's accounts. He convened a high-security holo-conference with his financial trio: Kaelen, Vara, and Jax.

"Right then," Revan chirped, leaning back in his Sovereign's Command Chair. "According to my 9th Doctorate in Advanced Mathematics, the Trade Federation is currently a bubble of 1% 'Unkindness' waiting to burst. And Naboo? Naboo is sitting on a plasma surplus that the Senate is about to audit into the ground. We're going to take a short position."

Jax, the investment banker, leaned forward. "A short? Revan, Naboo's plasma market is the most stable variable in the Mid-Rim."

"Not for long, Jax. According to my audit, there's a rhythmic pulse of interference coming in three years. I want us to open dummy leveraged accounts. Use shell corporations tied to the Safe House Project so the Banking Clan doesn't see our hand. I want a 100x leverage on a 200 million credit position against Naboo Plasma until the end of 32 BBY, and a similar position against Trade Federation shipping stocks until 31 BBY."

Kaelen's spectacles nearly slid off his nose. "100x leverage? That's not an investment, Master Shan. That's a localized thermodynamic explosion if it fails."

"It won't fail," Revan sassed, his 12th Doctor eyes glowing with certainty. "I've already read the footnotes of history. We're going to turn that 200 million into a variable that can fund a thousand relief efforts. Just do the paperwork. Keep it tidy."

The Temple Routine: Lessons in the Abstract

With Jaro Tapal assigned to a long-term diplomatic mission to Alderaan—a mission Revan knew would be a rhythmic exercise in "Nice but Boring" politics—the Master was left to his own devices at the Temple.

He maintained his weekly classes, though the subjects changed on a whim. One Tuesday, he taught Xenobiology via the digestive tracts of Sarlaccs; the next, he led a seminar on Galactic Lore focusing on why the Sith always chose remarkably uncomfortable outfits.

"Master Shan," a youngling asked during a session on Planetary Ecology, "why do you sleep in the Archives instead of your quarters?"

"Because, little one," Revan noted, pulling Calculus out of his sleeve to show the class, "the Archives have the highest density of 'Unsolved Variables' per square meter. Also, the chairs are statistically 14% more ergonomic for feline napping. Try to be nice to your beds, but never fail to be kind to a good book."

When the "Academic Stagnation" of the Temple became too thick, Revan initiated his "Rotational Flight Protocol." This week, he took a young Pantoran girl named Kee up in the Star-Sass.

"Stealth on, Eleven," Revan commanded.

The X-Wing vanished from Coruscant's orbital sensors as they screamed through the artificial canyons of the Works. Revan pushed the sublight engines to 2700 KPH, performing a series of "Zero-G Snap-Rolls" that had Kee squealing with binary-adjacent delight.

"We're ghosts, Master!" she yelled.

"Ghosting is an essential skill, Kee!" Revan laughed. "According to my heart, the best way to help the 96% is to move so fast the 1% forgot you were even there."

The Abyss Audit: Arrival at Koboh

Late in the year, Revan took the Black Pearl out of the Core. He traveled alone, utilizing the ship's Automatic Stealth Generator to bypass the standard trade routes. His destination: the Koboh System.

The planet was a masterpiece of "Untidy Nature." Overgrown with Koboh Materia and littered with the rusted skeletons of High Republic facilities, it radiated a rhythmic stutter that Revan found strangely familiar.

"R2-D6, scan for High Republic energy signatures," Revan commanded as the freighter touched down in a secluded canyon near the Rambler's Reach.

"Master," Cortana reported, her holographic form shimmering cyan. "I have located a rhythmic pulse 400 meters below the surface. It matches the logic-core of a ZN-A4 protocol droid. But there's a localized variable of 'Hostility' approaching."

Revan donned his Black Cloak and pulled the hood low, though he left the Mask of Revan in its safe for now. He stepped off the ramp, his Sonic Screwdriver in hand.

A gang of scavengers—the precursors to what Revan remembered as the Bedlam Raiders—emerged from the Materia-choked caves. They were armed with jury-rigged blasters and a 1% attitude.

"Tidy ship you got there, stranger," the lead scavenger sneered. "According to our audit, it belongs to us now."

Revan didn't reach for his sabers. He just sighed, the 12th Doctor's weary sass echoing in the canyon. "Right then. According to my 3rd Doctorate in Sentient Sociology, you are currently suffering from a localized delusion of grandeur. You have two choices. Choice A: You walk away and I don't audit your medical insurance. Choice B: My droid, HK-47, gets to practice his 'Meatbag Liquidiation' sub-routines. He's been remarkably bored lately."

"Statement: Master, choice B is statistically 100% more satisfying," HK whirred, stepping off the ramp with his high-output blaster rifle leveled at the leader's chest.

The scavengers looked at the Beskar-Phrik plating of the droid, then at the humming Kyber-Quantum sensor array of the ship. They chose a rhythmic retreat.

The Discovery: Zee and the Secret Backup

Revan utilized his Sonic Screwdriver to 'shush' the ancient locking mechanisms of the subterranean High Republic chamber. Inside, he found her: ZN-A4, known as Zee. She was trapped beneath a collapsed support beam, her logic-core in a low-power stutter.

"Hello, Zee," Revan whispered, kneeling beside the droid. He used Mechu-deru to feel the structural integrity of the debris. "According to my 4th Doctorate in Advanced Engineering, you've been stationary for about two hundred years too long. Let's fix that."

With a flick of his wrist, he used the Force to lift the beam. He then applied the Sonic to her primary capacitor.

Whirrr-vwoop-trill.

"System online," Zee chirped, her optic sensors flickering to life. "Are you... Master Santari Khri?"

"No, Zee. I'm the Auditor," Revan smiled kindly. "Santari is gone, but her variable remains. I'm here to set up a backup plan."

Revan didn't take Zee with him. He knew she had a role to play in the future for a boy named Cal Kestis. Instead, he utilized the facility's Kyber-Quantum computer to establish a secret, encrypted node.

> The Sovereign Backup Protocol:

> Revan programmed a hidden directive into the Koboh arrays. If the Jedi Order were ever to face a total "Systemic Wipe" (Order 66), a high-frequency burst would be sent to his seventeen safe houses and the Black Pearl. He was turning Tanalorr—a world the Sith didn't even know existed—into a localized "Safe-Boot" partition for the Jedi.

>

"Master," Cortana noted as he finished the code. "You aren't going to wake the Jedi in the bacta tank? Dagan Gera?"

Revan looked at the massive tank at the heart of the observatory, where the fallen Jedi floated in a rhythmic sleep. "No, Cortana. Dagan is a 1% variable of 'Selfish Unkindness.' He's untidy. According to my audit, he stays in the tank until the Force decides otherwise. We're here for the 96%, not for fallen masters with a god complex."

The Sovereign's Nap: End of 35 BBY

The year concluded with Revan sitting on a ridge overlooking the Koboh Abyss. The Black Pearl was anchored behind him, its stealth array masking their presence from the scavenging gangs.

Calculus was curled in his lap, and Theorem was industriously auditing a piece of Koboh Materia. Revan watched the swirling purple nebula of the Abyss, his mind calculating the rhythmic beauty of a world that didn't want to be found.

"Status, Cortana," Revan whispered.

"The Maverick Trust dummy accounts are active. The Short Position is locked," Cortana reported. "Zee is stable and hidden. The Tanalorr backup protocol is 100% operational. And Master... I've flagged a report from Naboo. Senator Palpatine has proposed a new trade tariff that will 'kindly' squeeze the plasma farmers. He is 47 years old."

"Squeeze the farmers, lose the planet," Revan yawned, the chair reclining to the Calculated Nap Angle. "Adventure is the journey, D6. And 35 BBY was a masterpiece of financial shorting, ancient droids, and finding the ultimate hiding spot. Try to be nice, 34 BBY. I have an Abyss to map."

He closed his eyes. The Maverick was 109, the books were balanced in secret, and the Auditor was dreaming of a galaxy where the light finally had a place to hide.
