Chapter 4 - chapter 4

10 hours before

Nehpis was traveling with Modret, straight forward in the search for the city of Verge.

Kai, Effie, and Jet were also going inland in search of the city of Verge, where the first seeker resides.

And also where torment, one of the Six Plagues, also resides.

They would be done if they found the verge and let Nephis and Sunny kill the first Seeker.

They would finally become Transcendent and gain the ability to return home.

And she would finally be able to make her plans to take down the sovereigns.

While she was thinking that, she kept a close eye on Modret; she didn't trust him one bit.

He was eerily quiet, but she didn't mind it; what she minded was his smile.

It was inhumane; whenever he smiled, she had a feeling of broken mirrors being under her skin.

'Why did Sunny think it was a good idea to stay at the ship and not go with me…'

She then started having strange thoughts.

'Does he hate me?'

'I thought he liked me, even though shadow bond exists, I thought we had a connection…'

On the outside, she still looked emotionless and taciturn.

Before going deeper into her delusions.

She decided to talk to Sunny after they were done with this nightmare.

Before thinking about how to talk to Sunny.

She saw a faint silhouette of a city.

She looked over to Modret and modret with that eerie smile of his, nodded at her.

Meaning he's also seeing the silhouette of the ancient city.

Then she thought to herself.

'Should we turn around and go back without alerting any of the nightmare creatures?'

Before turning to modret and voicing her thoughts.

"Should we first scout the area and fight some nightmare creatures, to know how strong they are, or turn around and go back, and form a better plan from there?"

Modret answered with a calm, steady voice.

"Whatever you want, lady changing star."

Even if she looked fine on the outside, but

She was wary of him.

But she did feel a kinship with him; they had nowhere to go, and both had a hate for the sovereigns.

Nevertheless, she answered with a calm and collected voice.

"Then let's go back."

"As you wish, lady changing star."

***

approximately 4 hours later

Nephis and Modret saw the silhouette of the chainbreaker

they steadlily walked to the chainbreaker.

That is, until they saw a figure on the chainbreaker.

The figure seemed to be frantically waving their arms, as if in panic.

Nephis then heard a loud voice interrupting her voice; it was Cassie's voice, the blind seer.

Nephis couldn't quite make her face out, but she still heard her.

"NEPHIS, SUNNY IS IN TROUBLE, COME FASTER"

Nephis was started, but she immediately shot up into a sprint, forgetting about the existence of modret.

He still reacted fast and sprinted right beside her, but Nephis didn't notice.

She only concentrated on the chain breaker and Cassie's message.

After 15 breaths, she finally reached the chainbreaker and climbed aboard.

She then used a few moments to catch her breath. After doing so, she stood straight up.

She asked Cassie, "Where is he?" while she hurriedly breathed air in.

Cassie then pulled on Nehpis's hand and dragged her to Sunny's cabin.

As Nephis looked at Sunny, who was curled up like a ball, screaming, scratching deep into his skin and flesh, seemingly trying to reach something unreachable.

Nephis looked like she saw a ghost; she looked scared, disgusted, and regret was surfacing in her eyes.

'What is happening to him?'

She hurriedly bent over and started healing him.

She did heal him, but he was scratching at his skin and flesh.

She was healing him for an hour.

She was so concentrated on healing him that she didn't even notice

That Kai, Effie, and Jet had returned, they all looked somber, though.

Which wasn't a surprise given the situation.

Even Modret had a little pity in his eyes.

Nephis was still healing him while all this happened; she was so focused she didn't even realize that she was crying.

But it didn't matter; he was still harming himself and being healed.

She wasn't going anywhere with this until he suddenly stopped harming himself.

And lie on the floor.

He was lying motionless on the floor.

Nephis then moved his body so that his face was facing her and his back against the floor.

She then increased the intensity of her healing, and it seemed to work because she saw a slight twitching in his eyelids.

And in the next moment, they opened.

But they didn't look like they were truly looking at her or anyone in this cabin; they looked blurry, as if awoken from a nightmare.

Then they closed again, as if he were blinded.
