Chapter 7 - Ch 7 Echoes Of Power

The morning after the shadow attack, Aetherion Academy was unusually quiet. Students moved cautiously through the corridors, still processing the chaos from the previous day. Arjun Vale walked among them, the mark on his wrist faintly glowing, fragments of energy swirling like restless sparks. The Broken Sky System pulsed steadily — calm, but alert, as if sensing the next wave of challenges.

Harshil fell into step beside him, his expression serious. "Vale… yesterday was insane. I didn't think you could handle that many Riftsouls at once."

Arjun nodded, his gaze focused ahead. "It wasn't just me. The system… it's evolving with me. But I feel it too… something bigger is coming."

Punya appeared at the academy's edge, her pale eyes scanning him carefully. "Ruin is not done observing. Every move you make, every fragment you absorb… he is aware."

Godly's calm voice followed. "Yes. And patience will not save you if he intervenes directly. Control, Vale… is more than just power."

Arjun flexed his fingers, feeling the fragments swirling faster than before. Yesterday's battle had pushed him to his limits, but the system had grown along with him. Each absorbed Riftsoul, each defensive maneuver, had increased not just his strength, but his **awareness** — the fragments now acted almost autonomously, anticipating threats before he fully realized them.

At the training grounds, instructors assessed the damage. Craters and scorched earth marked the battlefield, but none of the students were seriously injured — thanks to Arjun's protective shields and precise control. Even Harshil acknowledged it silently, a nod of respect passing between them.

The calm was broken when the system whispered urgently:

> "New fragments detected… potential threat approaching. Observation required."

Arjun stiffened. He could feel a familiar presence — not entirely physical, yet oppressive, calculated. The energy of the academy shifted subtly, shadows bending unnaturally, and the fragments around him pulsed in response.

Harshil's eyes narrowed. "Vale… that feeling again. It's like yesterday, but… different. Stronger."

Before Arjun could respond, the academy gates shuddered. A rift tore open, small but intense, and a single Riftsoul stepped out — taller, more refined than anything he had faced. Its aura was dark, calculating, and unmistakably different.

The system's voice was urgent:

> "Ruin's presence detected. Survival critical. Adapt immediately."

Arjun's mark flared brightly, fragments spinning faster, forming arcs, tendrils, and shields simultaneously. The Riftsoul lunged. Arjun moved instinctively, intercepting its attack and countering with precise strikes. Each motion felt like an extension of his will; the system responded seamlessly, guiding him without overt instructions.

Harshil assisted, cutting off flanks, but this opponent was clever. It anticipated their coordination, forcing Arjun to adapt dynamically. Each absorbed fragment increased his reaction speed, and the system suggested strategies almost before he thought of them.

Punya and Godly watched silently from a distance. "He's learning faster than we imagined," Punya murmured.

Godly's calm voice echoed: "Yes. But Ruin will test him beyond observation soon. Patience is temporary."

The Riftsoul's strikes grew more aggressive, and Arjun realized that the fragments themselves were evolving in response to his instincts. Energy arcs extended in complex patterns, shields formed in mid-air, and tendrils intercepted attacks he hadn't anticipated. He could feel the system **pushing him toward a new threshold**.

With a surge of focus, Arjun extended a spinning barrier of fragments that absorbed the Riftsoul's energy, then countered with a spiraling beam of light that shattered the enemy into shards of energy. The fragments absorbed the remnants, glowing brighter, almost alive.

Harshil exhaled, wiping sweat from his brow. "Vale… that… that was incredible."

Arjun glanced down at his mark, fragments still orbiting him. "The system… it's not just power anymore. It's learning *with* me. But Ruin… he's still watching. He's waiting for the right moment."

From the shadows, Punya's voice was low, almost a whisper. "And when he strikes… it will not be gradual. Brace yourself, Vale. The fragments are awakening… and so is he."

The academy held its breath. Arjun stood amidst the swirling fragments, aware of the threat lingering just beyond sight. He clenched his fists, feeling the pulse of power, potential, and danger. This was far from over.

The Broken Sky System hummed in agreement:

> "Prepare. Evolution continues. Ultimate threat imminent."

Arjun looked up at the sky. The horizon stretched wide and uncertain. Shadows still lingered. Fragments spun around him like restless spirits, ready to respond. Whatever came next, he would face it — and he would evolve beyond anything they expected.
