Chapter 2 - chapter 1

Chapter 1

Death and Transition

A young man in his early twenties stood atop the roof of an abandoned house, blood soaking his torn body. Three grave injuries were more than enough to end his life at any moment: a bullet lodged in his abdomen, a deep sword wound that had split his back, and a knife embedded in his chest—though not deep enough to kill him instantly. Blood poured from him heavily, and yet he remained standing, composed in a way that inspired dread.

The young man's dim black eyes were unexpectedly calm, observing his surroundings with cold focus. Around him stood five armed men, encircling him from every side, their fingers tight around their weapons.

One of them spoke in a voice heavy with sorrow.

"King of Death… you bastard, is this truly your reality? Betrayed by those who once believed in you."

The second shouted, suppressed fury and disbelief laced with pain in his voice.

"There is no escape for you today, you damned wretch! You killed our leader… and you think you're walking out of here alive?"

The others remained silent, poised to attack, murderous intent gleaming in their eyes.

The young man known as the King of Death gave a faint smile, filled with contempt.

"Do you truly think, you scum, that you stand a chance of killing someone as great as I am with such pitiful strength?"

One of the men erupted and shouted at him,

"What did we ever do to you for you to come to us and slaughter our men? You ungrateful, wicked devil!"

The King of Death growled, and a strange feeling of happiness and relief seeped into his chest despite the pain devouring his body.

"Evil? Yes, I am evil… the most evil of all. I am the master of evil and its ruler. Call me whatever you wish, but do not dare claim innocence before me. I know very well what you have done, you scum."

Arthur shouted with force, feeling his final breaths on the verge of slipping away. Even so, a satisfied smile formed on his lips, as if everything had ended exactly as he desired.

He slipped his trembling hand into his sleeve and pulled out something he had carefully concealed… a hand grenade.

The men's eyes widened in terror as they tried to flee for their lives, but it was too late.

The explosion roared, and the flames swallowed everything.

And the King of Death fell with them…

Pain, agony, and exhaustion vanished in fleeting moments, and Arthur's awareness of everything around him disappeared.

Into eternal darkness.

"Ah… what a life.

I truly did a great deal. I followed the path of my heart and mind, just as the old man advised me. I forged my own road, helped those in need, and killed scum without hesitation. I witnessed countless things in my life… and now, I feel genuine peace."

The voice gradually faded into the darkness, until a sharp chime pierced through it:

Diiiiiing

|Because of your kindness and good deeds, you have been acknowledged by the Supreme King. Now, continue your life and your journey—but not in this simple world. Continue your journey across the worlds. Enjoy yourself, boy.|

A blue window appeared in the heart of the darkness. Two dim black eyes stared at it, filled with shock and confusion.

'What the hell is happening? Where am I? What is this window? And who is the Supreme King? What does traveling between worlds even mean?'

Thoughts collided in his mind, until a flicker of realization flashed in his eyes.

'I've read many stories about this… novels about transmigrating to another world. But as far as I know, a person goes to only one world—not on a journey across multiple worlds! What in heaven's name is going on?'

The eyes closed within the darkness, and a pained scream escaped from an unseen mouth.

Arthur's eyes snapped open.

He looked around in awe and disbelief. The place was strange, the air heavy. He quickly examined his body—it was the same body, yet his old injuries had completely vanished, as though they had never existed. Still, he felt that his body was slightly weaker… and smaller than before.

Seconds later, a sharp pain struck him. He looked down to see a solid iron rod smashing brutally into his stomach.

He lifted his head in anger and saw a foolish blond-haired man with idiotic features ordering a large man to continue beating him.

Arthur tried to move his hand, but failed.

Only then did he look fully at his body… he was bound to a wooden cross planted into the ground, being beaten and tortured mercilessly.

After several heavy minutes, the two men stepped back and left him hanging there.

The boy with the dim black eyes slowly turned his head to the left.

Another young man was bound there as well—green-haired, with a black bandana on his head. The more Arthur looked at him, the more strangely familiar he seemed, yet he could not remember who he was.

After a while, the fool and his men left the place, leaving the two of them hanging in suffocating silence.

Arthur tried to gather his thoughts with all his strength, but his memory failed him, and he could not recognize the young man.

Then he heard a weary voice.

"Hey, kid… are you alright?"

He lifted his head and saw that the speaker was the green-haired young man. He smiled despite the blood staining his mouth and body.

"I'm fine… but can you tell me where the hell we are?"

The green-haired young man sighed deeply.

"Don't tell me you lost your memory or something like that. We're at a Marine base. I don't really know who you are; when I was tied up here, you were already hanging before me. I tried talking to you, but you were asleep the whole time."

He paused briefly, then continued in a quieter voice.

"It's been two weeks since I got here, and you were asleep through all the beatings."

Arthur's expression changed instantly.

'A Marine base? What the hell is he talking about? Was I dragged into the Marines? And why am I hanging here in the first place? What's going on? Is there no one who can explain this to me?'

The moment Arthur finished thinking, a familiar sound echoed:

Dingnnng

A window appeared before Arthur's exhausted eyes.

|Congratulations on your transmigration, Host. You are now using the System. You have successfully arrived in the world of One Piece. Do you accept the System as your guide and assistant on your journey?|

'The world of One Piece? I've heard that name before… but where? And why can't I remember it?'

Arthur sighed slowly, then spoke inwardly.

'Yes… I accept the System.'

|Warm congratulations, Host. The System will assist you in survival and growth. The world of One Piece has been designated as the primary world for the current time.

Because you accepted the System, you have received three gifts: First: the Personal Window. Second: the Storage. Third: the Random Gift Box.|

Arthur was astonished; everything truly resembled what he used to read when he was younger—transmigration novels and the like.

After a few seconds, Arthur pushed aside his surprise.

'Open the Personal Window.'

|Name: Arthur Narin

Age: 18 years old

Level: 5

Strength: 10

Agility: 10

Endurance: 15

Intelligence: 50

Devil Fruit: None

Haki: None|

Available Points: 250 Fame Points

Arthur stared at the personal window before him in shock and disbelief.

'What the hell is going on? I'm ridiculously weak…

I admit I'm not the strongest person in the world, but I'm not this weak! Damn it… I can't even break these ropes and get out of this mess.

I've read dozens of novels in my life; every protagonist who transmigrates to another world wakes up granted strength and assistance and everything they need from the very first moment. As for me… it's as if I've been forced to restart my previous life from when I was eight years old.'

Arthur took a deep breath, suppressing his frustration, then focused on the numbers before him.

'What are Fame Points?'

|They are called Fame Points due to the current world. As the name implies, Fame Points are used to enhance your body's capabilities. These points increase as your fame grows. You may distribute Fame Points across your stats in the Personal Window to grow stronger. Think carefully before distributing them.|

Arthur fell silent for a few moments, weighing the matter with complete calm. He had been given another chance—

a chance at life,

a chance to become stronger,

a chance to accomplish what he had failed to do in his previous life.

Then he opened the Personal Window.

|Name: Arthur Narin

Age: 18 years old

Level: ???

Strength: 100

Agility: 70

Endurance: 115

Intelligence: 50

Devil Fruit: None

Haki: None|

|Points have been distributed according to the Host's judgment. Are you sure?|

Without hesitation, Arthur answered,

'Yes.'

|You will feel some pain as your body is transformed and your strength increases. Endure the pain… and live.|

"What the—"

Before Arthur could finish speaking, his muscles contracted violently, then stretched as though being reforged anew. Overwhelming pain surged through him, brutal and merciless, striking his body from within and without at the same time. It was unbearable, as though every cell was screaming.

And yet, Arthur clenched his teeth tightly and refused to surrender.

Fifteen minutes passed—minutes that felt longer than a lifetime.

|Congratulations, Host. Your level has risen to 20. As a result, you have received an additional gift, which will be stored along with the previous one in the Storage.|

|Name: Arthur Narin

Age: 18 years old

Level: 20

Strength: 100

Agility: 70

Endurance: 115

Intelligence: 50

Devil Fruit: None

Haki: None|

Remaining Points: 0

'Damn it… I nearly died.'

Arthur exhaled with great difficulty.

'My body is exhausted and deteriorated, and it's obvious I'm suffering from malnutrition—that's why the pain was so savage. True, my level has risen and my stats have increased, and I can feel tremendous energy flowing through my veins… but I'm unable to use it now. Fatigue is devouring me, and I feel like I might collapse at any moment.'

Arthur opened the Storage and found two gift boxes inside.

A faint smile appeared on his face, then he closed it calmly. His hands were still bound; even if the gifts appeared before him, he would not be able to touch them. And if they were direct enhancements of strength, his exhausted body would not endure it now.

He closed the System and turned his head toward the young man bound beside him.

"I'm Arthur Narin… can you tell me your name?"

The green-haired young man slowly raised his head and looked at him with steady eyes.

"I'm Roronoa Zoro."

Arthur spoke with Zoro for some time, trying to understand where they were, what had happened, and why they had ended up bound like this. He did not learn every detail, but he gradually came to understand this world.

It was the Great Age of Pirates.

Its people fell into three categories: ordinary humans, adventurous pirates—some righteous, some corrupt—and the Marines, who represented the iron fist of authority.

He also learned why Zoro had been bound; he had killed the wolf of the foolish blond boy named Helmeppo.

He also discovered that Zoro was a powerful pirate hunter with considerable fame.

'He's a good person… it seems I've transmigrated into a world not so different from my previous one. Power still rests in the hands of the corrupt and the vile.'

Arthur sighed bitterly when the voices of two people reached his ears from afar; one was pleading with the other to change his mind.

Arthur turned toward the source of the sound. A pink-haired boy stood there, clearly frightened and cowardly, beside a young man wearing a straw hat, smiling at Zoro as though he had found what he had been searching for.

The straw-hatted boy attempted to jump over the fence, but stopped and placed a wooden ladder first. A small girl appeared, looking right and left cautiously. Once she was certain the place was empty, she descended quietly to the ground and approached Zoro with an innocent smile.

"Big brother… I made you some food. I hope you like it."

She handed the food to Zoro with a warm smile, then turned toward Arthur, sorrow evident on her face.

"I'm sorry, big brother… I didn't bring you any food."

Arthur returned her smile gently.

"There's no need to be sad, but you should leave this place quickly."

Zoro was about to speak when an arrogant voice ruined the moment.

"What do we have here… huh?"

Zoro sighed, anger rising within him.

Helmeppo stepped forward without a word, snatched the food from the girl's hand, threw it to the ground, and crushed it beneath his foot with a mocking smile.

Then he turned to the soldier beside him and ordered,

"She's a criminal who trespassed on the Marine base. But I'm a kind person, so I won't kill her. Soldier… throw her out of here."

The soldier tried to protest, but Helmeppo drew his sword and placed it against his neck.

"You… or her? Choose."

The soldier lowered his head in suppressed anger, then picked up the girl and threw her forcefully out of the yard.

At that very moment, Arthur noticed the straw-hatted boy jumping.

He smiled when he heard a heavy thud and realized the boy had caught the girl and landed safely with her.

Helmeppo stepped back and then disappeared from sight.

Zoro was seething with anger, staring at the sword Helmeppo had held, as though an imminent explosion was being restrained with difficulty.

After a few minutes, the straw-hatted boy jumped over the fence and approached Zoro.

"You're the pirate hunter Zoro… right?"

"And what's it to you? Get out of here at once."

Zoro replied coldly, his eyes closed as though he saw nothing in the newcomer but additional annoyance.

The straw-hatted young man smiled broadly and said with strange confidence,

"I'm Monkey D. Luffy, and I'm the man who will become the Pirate King. Join my crew, Zoro."

Zoro burst into laughter—a short laugh filled with clear mockery.

"Are you joking with me, you idiot? I'm a pirate hunter. Why would I care about becoming a pirate? Move before I kill you."

The smile did not leave Luffy's face; he continued looking at Zoro with fearless, almost naive features.

Then he turned his head toward Arthur.

"And who are you?"

His voice carried sincere curiosity, devoid of hostility.

"I'm… a forgotten person, truly. I have nowhere to go. You can call me Arthur."

Luffy's smile widened.

"Arthur… that's a nice name. Are you a pirate?"

Arthur thought calmly.

'A pirate? Damn… if someone had asked me that question just one day ago, I would have laughed myself to death, and perhaps struck them without hesitation. I am the master of evil, the great killer… the King of Death, Arthur Narin. And now? I've turned into a pirate? How strange this life is.'

Arthur smiled calmly, hiding his turmoil.

"I'm not sure yet."

Luffy tilted his head slightly, as though the answer intrigued him even more.

"Not sure? Hmm… then do you want to join my crew, Arthur?"

Arthur looked at Luffy, thinking and analyzing his current situation.

'I have no real interest in joining him… but I must get out of here first. I need to understand exactly where I am, and whether I can return to my world or not.'

Before Arthur could answer, a small pink-haired boy jumped over the fence and ran toward Luffy urgently.

"Luffy-san! We have to get out of here quickly! Let's go!"

Luffy smiled and was about to move when a voice stopped him.

"Stop."

Zoro said it calmly, his eyes still closed.

Luffy froze in place.

"Arthur… are you hungry?"

Zoro asked, turning his head slightly toward him.

"Yes. Do you have food?"

Zoro gave a faint smile, then addressed Luffy in a serious tone:

"Can you pick up those rice balls and feed some of them to me and Arthur?"

Luffy bent down and picked up the rice balls… or what remained of them. They were nothing more than muddy paste after Helmeppo had stepped on them.

Luffy raised them and looked at the two with hesitation.

"Do you really want to eat this?"

The reply came at the same moment, in one voice:

"Yes."

From Zoro… and Arthur together.

Luffy sighed, then placed some of the rice into Zoro's mouth, then into Arthur's.

The two began chewing with difficulty. Grinding and scraping sounds came from between their teeth, and veins bulged on their foreheads from the effort.

After heavy moments, they finally swallowed the food.

"Thank you for the meal."

Arthur said respectfully, despite the exhaustion evident on his face.

"Tell her… the food was delicious."

Zoro added in a steady voice filled with sincere gratitude.

Luffy's face shone with pure happiness. Then he grabbed the pink-haired boy and leapt over the fence, disappearing from sight.
