Chapter 93 - The Last Prophet Of Earth

Part Three

Lian stood alone in her courtyard long after midnight.

Lantern light flickered against stone walls.

Her breathing was controlled.

Her thoughts were not.

She had stepped across a line publicly.

Subtle.

But irreversible.

If the elders chose suppression—

She would be watched.

If they chose absorption—

She would be implicated.

She closed her eyes and allowed her spiritual energy to circulate.

For years, she had practiced severance.

Cutting distraction.

Cutting doubt.

Cutting attachment.

It had made her efficient.

Sharp.

Feared.

Now—

She felt the cost.

Silence had become emptiness.

Alignment had become narrowing.

And somewhere inside that narrowing—

Something human had been trimmed away.

Zheng Wen Te's words returned to her:

"Stillness is not the absence of emotion. It is the absence of fear."

She inhaled slowly.

For the first time in years—

She did not sever the thought.

She allowed it to remain.

The result was destabilizing.

Not chaotic.

But unfamiliar.

A single tear slid down her cheek before she could stop it.

She did not wipe it away.

Integration felt heavier than severance.

But also—

More complete.
