Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Truth

Sofia's mind was racing as Arin led them through the forest. What did he mean, her father wasn't who she thought he was? She had always trusted her father, loved him. But Arin's words had planted a seed of doubt in her mind. Leila walked beside her, her eyes fixed on Arin. Sofia knew Leila was thinking the same thing - what secrets was the king hiding?

Arin stopped suddenly, his head cocked to one side. Sofia's heart skipped a beat as he raised a hand, signaling them to be quiet. The forest was silent, the only sound the rustling of leaves. And then, Sofia heard it - the distant sound of horses, getting louder. Arin's eyes met hers, his expression tense. "We need to move, now."

They ran, the sound of horses growing louder.

Sofia's breath was coming in short gasps, her legs aching. Leila stumbled, and Arin caught her, pulling her up. "We're almost there," he said, his voice low. Sofia's eyes scanned the trees, searching for any sign of safety. And then, she saw it - a small village, smoke rising from the chimneys.

They burst into the village, Arin shouting for the villagers to take cover. The horses were getting closer, the sound of shouts and swords echoing through the trees. The villagers sprang into action, grabbing weapons and hiding behind buildings. Sofia and Leila were pulled into a small hut, Arin standing guard at the door.

The villagers fought bravely, but the attackers were too many. The hut shook as someone kicked at the door, the wood creaking under the pressure. Sofia's heart was racing, her mind numb with fear. What was happening? Why were these people after her?
