Chapter 2: The Hide Begins
Just a glimpse of the horned wolf noticed Oscar, which shivers crept to his spine.
.
'No way this is happening—!'
.
From the tip of his horns had a flicker to a charge, enough to be seen from his stead.
.
It shone with radiance.
.
Quite dangerous.
.
Danger loomed his heart that tightened his chest and ended gulp hard but glanced sideways from the secret compartment within arms reach.
.
When two more of similar build of the monster emerged from the bloody corridor, his hand immediately reached the emergency button that triggered a blare.
.
Such swift hands he maneuvered through the compartment and went for the code, and revealed security protocol for A.I. System to command.
.
"I need you to activate AR40 & FS24 now!"
.
The automated voice echoed throughout the floors. " Warning! Activating Acid Rain & Fire Storm along the main hallway in 5 seconds! Please evacuate now!"
.
From the ceiling opened sprinklers that gushed but as soon as the droplets struck the wolves.
.
Howled in unison heard from a distance.
.
The ball of spark struck itself and arc behind him, ending up squirmed and whimpered.
.
Before they could react, more waves of horned wolves tried to crowd the space but went all for naught when the gray mist then spread out.
.
Oscar with head held up high and leered at them.
.
He then pressed the button, and the corridors, several layers ahead of him, began to close like an enclosure.
.
Despite that, a horned wolf in bigger stature pounced to the frontlines and howled.
.
'I can't believe this is real. Like I'm in a game or something…'
.
Glasses like windows and doors shattered at once and Oscar could only shut his eyes and ears at the same time.
.
But even that big of a monster there was never spared from the hiss and the sizzles from his furs drenched in the acid upon them.
.
Before he let out a prolonged growl now emerged a flame that engulfed them.
.
"I need to make a plan."
.
Oscar moves away as soon as the steel doors shut and the hallway is on automated lockdown.
.
With a gulp, he reached on the other end of the pillar as he now bit lips. "I must keep this hidden."
.
The room trembled, and another partition came and the special vats area now sealed shut at any given moment.
.
He then went to the surveillance area, always activated, to check for further updates.
.
As soon as reaching the phone Oscar called emergency hotlines and other authorities nearby.
.
Yet turned out in no avail.
.
"Where are all these wolves coming from?" Spoken with seethe between his teeth, and now noticed the cameras after clicking had him focused.
.
From the entrance of the building, there revealed several spatial cracks, as Oscar described it, with monsters emerging from it.
.
The police and the group of militaries retaliated with all their might but deemed harsh with horde of monsters approaching.
.
Never did it become a lost cause when several humans emerged, with peculiar power— akin to those in movies, stories, and in games— that fought alongside mankind.
.
Oscar curled hands to a fist.
.
'No… This can't be…'
.
From the compilations, a few cameras are already in gray screen— in a haze— with no vision written.
.
'... Is brother Dee alright? No, is he as well—?'; A small shake on his head as his gaze now cleared. "I assume he already went and check our family before going to my very far of a place"
.
Though there had been swarms of monsters crept throughout numerous areas in the building.
' All right, let's try to survive as long as we can…'
.
Then almost no human now spared from the massacre painted on every available camera therein.
.
'This can't be…' His lips now gaped a tad bit as what he witnessed.
.
Like the games he played in recent times.
.
The comics and stories he had read.
.
As an avid fan as he was; like the genres he got and drawn closer to— happened to be popping in real life— worst way possible.
.
'This is like a game…' He propped his palms on the control panel. ' Is this what brother Dee called me for—?'
.
Despite the muffled sounds, he was no stranger with the sudden bumps and vibrations coming from the sealed path of the hallway.
.
"Activate AR88 & SS54 now! Reinforce the doors!"
.
The automated voice echoed again.
.
"Warning! Activating Acid Rain & Snow Storm entire floor in 3 seconds! Please evacuate now!"
.
Oscar sighed in relief.
.
The sound of banging and all stopped.
.
Silence, for the first time in a long while, never calmed her chest to an effect.
.
Yet it didn't last that long.
.
Nearby the laboratory racks found several reagents; from there, he mixed pairs of strong reagents.
.
In smaller batches and poured on a small ampule for as fast as he could.
.
The thug got stronger until it became stronger with the door now dented for a couple of strikes.
.
Oscar tucked the reagents to his messenger back as soon as he reached for his phone.
.
From the dented steel door, breaking in anytime soon, had Oscar cursed under his breath.
.
'Quite cunning for them to learn.'
.
For Oscar, fret not, because he still had some tricks up in his sleeves.
.
Indeed, the last barricade failed and revealed the large horned wolf earlier.
.
Although burned and scalded earlier, it remained steadfast.
.
With now his turn: head held up with leering eyes, at him no less.
.
"Smokescreen! Now!"
.
When it was about to pounce, Oscar threw an ampule at it and once a spark emerged at its snout turned into a massive explosion.
.
It wasn't over when a couple of shadows emerged from behind the smoke.
.
Without hesitation he knocked down the rack with reagents and without looking back, he jumped to the next platform and propelled further from the chain of blasts occurring.
.
Rolling a few times had him propped in all fours, but his vision went to a spiral.
.
"... That hurt…"
.
Blood trickled on the floor, and had him touch his forehead and now his hand shook from such a sight.
.
Clicking his tongue, he threw the ampules at their horns swirled with a surging spark.
.
The blasts became intense and enough to burn them to crisps.
.
Yet it was far from over when the large monster survived.
.
And now to his blindspot.
.
