Chapter 2 - Vampire System

Then something in Alucard shifted.

Not his posture.

Not his face.

Not even his eyes.

But something deeper.

Something inside.

'Where am I?' Alucard said in his mind.

His eyes moved slowly across the hall.

Gods. Thrones. Power. Presence.

None of it made sense.

'What is this place?'

His smirk didn't change.

His body didn't move wrong.

He still looked calm.

Still looked confident.

Still looked like he belonged there.

Inside—

'WHAT IS HAPPENING?!'

He wanted to grab someone.

Shake them.

Demand answers.

Instead, his eyes narrowed slightly.

To everyone else, it looked like he was analyzing them.

Judging them.

Measuring them.

Like a king deciding which pawn to sacrifice first.

Inside, he was doing the mental equivalent of screaming.

Ding!

He froze.

Not physically.

Mentally.

'The fuck was that?'

Ding!

[Vampire System Online]

There was a pause.

A long pause.

Then—

Ding!

[Finally.]

Alucard blinked once.

Slow.

'…Finally?'

The voice was flat.

Deadpan.

Tired.

Not majestic.

Not threatening.

Just… done.

Alucard didn't react outwardly.

Because he had no idea how.

'Ok,' he thought carefully.

'I am either dead… insane… or dreaming.'

A beat.

'…or all three.'

The System spoke again.

Ding!

[Host consciousness detected.]

Ding!

[Memory access: Partial.]

Ding!

[Authority confirmed: Alucard.]

Ding!

[Restraint Level: 0]

Ding!

[Status: Pathetic.]

He almost choked.

'Pathetic?!'

He kept the smirk.

Barely.

'Excuse me?'

The System didn't hesitate.

Ding!

[Correction.]

Ding!

[Extremely pathetic.]

He stared forward.

Still smiling.

Still looking like the most confident being in the room.

Inside—

'WHO ARE YOU CALLING PATHETIC?!'

Ding!

[You.]

A pause.

Then the System added,

Ding!

[Took you long enough.]

Alucard's eye twitched.

Just slightly.

Just enough that Hermes noticed.

And Hermes smiled.

Because from the outside—

It looked like anticipation.

Like excitement.

Like hunger.

Like Alucard had finally found something worth his attention.

Inside—

'I don't know where I am.'

'I don't know who I am.'

'I don't know what is happening.'

He paused.

Then mentally pointed at the System.

'And now there is a sarcastic voice in my head.'

The System replied instantly.

Ding!

[Correct.]

A pause.

Ding!

[Try not to die immediately.]

Alucard stared forward at the gods.

Still smiling.

Still calm.

Still terrifying.

Inside—

'I am going to die immediately.'

Zeus looked at Alucard.

"Very well. We agree to your challenge."

Alucard blinked.

'What challenge?'

His brain froze.

His soul froze.

His nonexistent tutorial froze.

'WHAT DID I SAY?!'

Outwardly, his smirk didn't change.

Not even a little.

His eyes remained calm.

Cold.

Ancient.

Like he had expected this outcome.

Like this was all part of his plan.

Alucard spoke.

"I see… then so be it."

Inside—

'SO BE WHAT?!'

Ding!

[Challenge accepted.]

Ding!

[Survival probability: Low.]

Ding!

[Recommendation: Panic.]

'Alreadly doing that.'

Zeus leaned forward slightly.

His old eyes sharp.

Interested.

Amused.

"Then it is decided. Twelve rounds. If you lose even once… humanity will face Ragnarok."

Alucard nodded slowly.

"Fair."

Inside—

'THIS IS NOT FAIR.'

Hermes leaned toward Shiva.

"Do you see his eyes?"

Shiva grinned.

"Yeah."

"He's serious."

Odin said nothing.

But his ravens watched Alucard carefully.

Because something felt wrong.

Not weak.

Not foolish.

Wrong in a different way.

Like something ancient had just… woken up.

Brunhilde stared at him.

Hard.

Suspicious.

Curious.

Because she saw it.

A flicker.

Just for a moment.

Confusion.

Gone instantly.

Replaced by confidence.

Lucifer smiled.

"Oh… this will be entertaining."

Alucard stood there.

Calm.

Still.

Perfect.

Inside—

'System.'

Ding!

[Yes.]

'Explain.'

Ding!

[No.]

'No?'

Ding!

[Figure it out.]

He wanted to scream.

Instead, he chuckled softly.

The sound echoed across the hall.

Gods watched him carefully.

Because to them—

He sounded excited.

Hungry.

Ready.

Inside—

'I have made the worst mistake of my life.'

Ding!

[Correction.]

Ding!

[Unlife.]

He hated this System already

Alucard stood.

Smooth.

Controlled.

Perfect.

Inside—

'Ok, keep going.'

'Keep walking.'

'I have zero idea what is happening.'

He adjusted his gloves.

Muscle memory.

Not his memory.

But his body's.

"I will be going now," he said calmly.

"I will accept my challenge tomorrow."

His voice was refined.

Confident.

Ancient.

He didn't know where it came from.

He turned.

And walked.

Every step perfect.

Every movement elegant.

Every inch the King of Vampires.

Gods watched him leave in silence.

No one stopped him.

No one dared.

Because to them—

This was a predator returning to prepare.

Not a man having a mental breakdown.

The doors closed behind him.

The second he was out of sight—

'System explain!'

Ding!

A screen appeared in his mind.

Red.

Black.

Dripping.

Ancient.

---

[Name: Alucard

Title: King of Vampires

Level: 100

Restraint Level: 0

Powers: Locked

Reason: Prevent host destruction. Powers will unlock gradually.

Immortality: Type 8

Description: Excessive. Would make Rasputin uncomfortable.]

---

Alucard froze.

Mentally.

His body kept walking.

Step.

Step.

Step.

Perfect posture.

Perfect calm.

Perfect control.

Inside—

'…Did I just read Alucard?'

Ding!

[Yes.]

His mind went blank.

'No.'

Ding!

[Yes.]

'No.'

Ding!

[You did.]

He kept walking.

Gods in the hallway moved out of his way instantly.

They bowed slightly.

Out of instinct.

Out of fear.

Out of respect.

Inside—

'I am Alucard?'

Ding!

[Correct.]

'I am the King of Vampires?'

Ding!

[Correct.]

'I am fighting gods tomorrow?'

Ding!

[Correct.]

He paused for half a second.

Then kept walking.

Because stopping would look suspicious.

Inside—

'I am going to die.'

Ding!

[Incorrect.]

He paused mentally.

'Incorrect?'

Ding!

[You cannot die.]

A pause.

Ding!

[You can lose.]

He didn't know which was worse.

Fragments flashed in his mind.

Blood.

War.

Screaming.

Cities burning.

A woman with silver hair and crimson eyes.

Angry.

Furious.

Worried.

"Carmilla."

The name slipped into his thoughts naturally.

He didn't know why.

But it felt important.

Ding!

[Bond detected: Carmilla]

Ding!

[Loyalty: 92%]

Ding!

[Emotional state: Extremely angry.]

He blinked.

'…why?'

Ding!

[Because you are an idiot.]

He almost stopped walking.

'Excuse me?'

Ding!

[You challenged the gods.]

A pause.

Ding!

[Without warning her.]

He resumed walking.

Calm.

Perfect.

Elegant.

Inside—

'…I did do that, didn't I.'

Ding!

[Yes.]

Ding!

[Idiot.]

He sighed mentally.

'Can you stop calling me that?'

Ding!

[No.]

Somewhere behind him—

He felt it.

A presence.

Fast.

Powerful.

Familiar.

Angry.

Very angry.

Ding!

[Correction.]

Ding!

[Extremely angry.]

He didn't turn around.

Because his body already knew.

And his mind finally understood one thing clearly.

He was about to meet his Queen.

And she was absolutely going to kill him.

The hallway was silent.

Gods moved out of his way without being told.

Some stared.

Some whispered.

Some avoided eye contact entirely.

Alucard walked like he owned the place.

Inside—

'I am going to die.'

Ding!

[Correction.]

Ding!

[You are going to suffer.]

Before he could respond—

A voice cut through the hallway like a blade.

Cold.

Sharp.

Furious.

"Alucard."

He stopped.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Because every instinct in his body screamed the same thing.

Danger.

He turned.

She stood at the far end of the hall.

Silver hair.

Red eyes.

Red dress.

Power rolled off her in waves.

Not divine.

Not holy.

Not mortal.

Royal.

Ancient.

Possessive.

Carmilla.

And she was furious.

Gods nearby immediately backed away.

Not because they feared her strength.

But because they feared her authority.

She walked toward him.

Each step precise.

Controlled.

Like she was containing herself.

Barely.

Alucard's body reacted automatically.

His posture straightened slightly.

His chin lifted.

Not in defiance.

In recognition.

Inside—

'Oh no.'

Ding!

[Correct.]

She stopped in front of him.

Close.

Very close.

Her red eyes locked onto his.

Searching.

Demanding.

"You."

A pause.

"What."

Another step closer.

"The fuck."

Closer.

"Are."

Closer.

"You."

Closer.

"Doing?"

Silence.

Alucard's mind was empty.

Completely empty.

He had no answer.

Because he didn't know.

Ding!

[Suggestion: Lie.]

He almost said that out loud.

Instead, he smiled.

Slow.

Confident.

Dangerous.

Like this was all intentional.

Like this was all part of his plan.

"Protecting what is mine."

Her eye twitched.

Because that was exactly what the real Alucard would say.

Not an explanation.

Not an apology.

A statement.

A claim.

She grabbed his collar.

Hard.

Not enough to hurt him.

Enough to make a point.

"You challenged the gods."

Not a question.

A statement.

He didn't answer.

Because he couldn't.

Because he didn't know he did.

Because he didn't remember doing it.

So he did the only thing he could.

He stayed silent.

Her grip tightened.

"You didn't tell me."

Inside—

'I didn't know myself!'

Ding!

[Irrelevant.]

Then she leaned closer.

"You made your move."

A pause.

"Without telling your Queen."

And there it was.

Not just anger.

Not betrayal.

Hurt.

That's when he realized something.

She wasn't angry he challenged the gods.

She was angry he didn't trust her enough to tell her.

Ding!

[Correct.]

Now—

How did she find out so fast?

Simple.

Because Carmilla isn't just his Queen.

She is his equal.

Ding!

[Explaining.]

Ding!

[Carmilla Authority: Queen of Vampires]

Ding!

[Passive Ability: Blood Throne Awareness]

Ding!

[Description: Automatically detects major actions taken by the King.]

Ding!

[Trigger detected: Host challenged multiple divine entities.]

Ding!

[Alert priority: Absolute.]

Ding!

[Time delay: 0.8 seconds.]

He froze mentally.

'She knew… instantly?'

Ding!

[Yes.]

Ding!

[You cannot hide major actions from her.]

Ding!

[She is your Queen.]

Carmilla stared at him.

Searching his face.

Looking for something.

Doubt.

Hesitation.

Fear.

She found none.

Because his body didn't know how to show it.

Finally, she spoke again.

Quiet.

Dangerous.

"Explain."

Inside—

'I can't.'

Ding!

[Correct.]

He looked down at her.

Calm.

Ancient.

Confident.

Fake.

"I will."

A pause.

"When the time is right."

Her eyes narrowed.

Because that sounded exactly like him.

Exactly like the planner she loved.

Exactly like the monster who always thought ten steps ahead.

She released his collar.

Not because she was satisfied.

Because she trusted him.

That was worse.

Ding!

[Warning.]

Ding!

[You are now maintaining a lie.]

Ding!

[Failure consequences: Severe.]

He already knew.

Because now—

He wasn't just lying to the gods.

He was lying to the one person who knew him best.

And somehow—

That terrified him more than Ragnarok.

Carmilla let him go.

"You better explain."

Alucard smiled.

"Don't worry. I will."

His eyes lingered on her as she turned away, silver hair flowing like moonlight.

'She is very beautiful.'

Ding!

[Beauty was not the primary reason Original Host selected Carmilla.]

He blinked.

'Selected?'

Ding!

[Compatibility: Extremely High]

Ding!

[Loyalty: Absolute]

Ding!

[Threat Level if betrayed: Catastrophic]

'Alright. Noted.'

She stopped walking.

Just slightly.

Not turning around.

But listening.

Always listening.

He filed that away.

Important.

Very important.

'Hope I get those memories soon.'

Ding!

[Memory restoration in progress.]

Ding!

[Estimated completion: Unknown.]

'Of course.'

"King Alucard."

He turned.

Brunhilde stood a few steps away.

Watching him.

Studying him.

Judging him.

He finally saw her clearly now.

Not as a blur.

Not as background noise.

Clearly.

Midnight-blue hair.

Green eyes.

Authority.

Power.

Presence.

And then—

It clicked.

Hard.

Clean.

Instant.

'Wait a damn minute.'

His thoughts froze.

'That's Brunhilde.'

Not just any Brunhilde.

Brunhilde.

From Record of Ragnarok.

The Valkyrie who started Ragnarok.

The one who tricked the gods.

The one who might save humanity.

Ding!

[Congratulations.]

Ding!

[Host has achieved basic situational awareness.]

His soul went cold.

'This is Record of Ragnarok.'

Ding!

[Correct.]

Ding!

[Correction: Mythologically accurate variant.]

His mind raced.

Fast.

Too fast.

He remembered the manga.

He remembered the fights.

He remembered the winners.

He remembered the losers.

He remembered who died.

And suddenly—

Zeus's words made sense.

Ragnarok.

The vote.

The tension.

Everything.

He wasn't guessing anymore.

He knew exactly where he was.

And that was a problem.

Because he wasn't supposed to exist here.

Brunhilde spoke.

"Why are you helping humanity?"

Direct.

Suspicious.

Careful.

She didn't trust him.

She couldn't afford to.

He panicked.

Internally.

Completely.

'WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME I DON'T KNOW EITHER.'

Ding!

[Suggestion: Maintain persona.]

Too late.

He already opened his mouth.

"Oh, you would love to know, Valkyrie."

He froze.

'Why did I say that?'

Ding!

[Muscle memory.]

Ding!

[Original Host behavioral patterns active.]

She narrowed her eyes.

Because that sounded like a man with a plan.

Not a man improvising his entire existence.

"Try me," she said.

He looked at her.

Really looked at her.

This was the woman who outplayed gods.

Who orchestrated Ragnarok.

Who carried humanity's hope.

And right now—

She was trying to figure him out.

Good luck with that.

He didn't understand himself either.

So he did the only thing he could do.

He leaned slightly closer.

Smiling.

Calm.

Confident.

Terrifying.

"Tell me, Valkyrie."

His red eyes glowed faintly.

"What do you think happens… when a monster sides with humanity?"

She didn't answer.

Because she didn't know.

Because monsters didn't protect humanity.

They devoured it.

He straightened.

Turned.

And walked past her.

Perfect posture.

Perfect control.

Perfect lie.

Inside—

'I am so screwed.'

Ding!

[Correct.]

Behind him, Brunhilde watched silently.

Because something about him didn't make sense.

Not his power.

Not his presence.

Not his confidence.

His timing.

Why now?

Why this moment?

Why after millions of years?

She didn't know yet.

But she would find out.

Because if he was lying—

She would kill him herself.

And somehow—

Alucard felt that too.
