I should have kept walking.
The black cars shouldn't have mattered. The shouting shouldn't have pulled me closer.
But curiosity is dangerous.
A gunshot shattered the night.
A man fell to the ground.

"Kill her?" someone asked.

Fear trembled through me, but I refused to look away.
His jaw tightened.
"No."
He stepped closer, tilting my chin up.
"She saw too much."
His thumb brushed my cheek slowly.
"Put her in my car."
My heart pounded.
"Alive?" a man asked.
Luca's eyes never left mine.
"For now."
