"Hey, Section Chief, care to join me for breakfast? Thanks, by the way!"
The woman in front of him completely ignored his threat. She didn't even set down her bag before sipping a palm sugar latte and picking through the spread.
Jordan's gaze returned to the book in front of him. He clicked his tongue.
"Delicious!"
Anzu demolished two slices of bacon bread in seconds, then touched her flat stomach. A realization dawned. With her current physique, gaining weight would be practically impossible.
The thought opened the door to a new world.
Possessed by sudden freedom, Anzu set down her coffee. When she came back to her senses, she was already holding a large bowl of seafood ramen—something she'd never have touched for breakfast before—and devouring it with abandon.
Storm inhalation technique deployed.
But it tasted so good!
After finishing her meal, Anzu wiped her hands with a tissue, stowed her bag in the cupboard, and finally had time to examine what Jordan was actually doing.
At his desk, the Section Chief wore a neatly ironed white shirt (F-boy had been up all night pressing it), his dark blue police uniform draped over the chair back. A massive textbook lay open before him, surrounded by sheets of calculation paper covered in formulas.
If he wore black-rimmed glasses, Anzu could almost sense refined gentleness emanating from that powerful physique.
The contrast was outrageous.
She grumbled silently to herself. Then Jordan's voice rang in her ears. "Who's refined and easygoing? Who are you calling outrageous? Why are you cursing me when I just bought you breakfast?"
"Wait, did I say that out loud?"
Anzu's eyes widened. She took a step back in horror. "Section Chief! You actually used mind-reading on me! That's crossing a line!"
"The official name is Mind Network, and mind-reading is just one derived application." Jordan didn't look up from his book. "So maybe don't curse me mentally either."
"Ugh! Section Chief, how do you always awaken weird superpowers?" Anzu's face flushed crimson as she remembered certain fantasies she'd entertained using him as the subject. She shook her head violently, trying to dislodge the embarrassing images. When she stopped, Jordan's amused gaze met hers. Her face turned scarlet. "You can't just pry into your subordinates' thoughts! That's personal privacy!"
"I know. I haven't been using this ability long, so I'm not very skilled yet." Jordan's tone shifted, eyes narrowing at the woman lusting after him. "Won't use it casually on you in the future. Though it seems you're the weird one here. All those things in your head—"
Anzu teleported across the room at lightning speed, clamping her hand over his mouth before he could finish. "You can't say it! It'll get censored!"
Fresh floral fragrance wafted over him. Jordan suppressed the electromagnetic field that wanted to form reflexively around his body. "Mm... alright then. Won't happen again."
Let's move past this topic.
Anzu breathed a sigh of relief, casually picking up a recently opened book from the table. Her hand froze mid-motion.
She flipped through the next few volumes. Her pupils dilated in shock.
Electromagnetism.
Relativistic Quantum Mechanics.
Classical Field Theory.
Even with the knowledge granted by her Black Widow abilities, her understanding of the profound concepts in these texts was superficial at best.
After carefully restacking the books, Anzu couldn't help asking, "Section Chief, are you planning to switch careers and become a researcher?"
"No." Jordan set down his pen, cracking his knuckles. "Haven't you heard the saying? Knowledge is power."
"But this knowledge—"
Anzu hesitated.
A small electromagnetic field appeared in Jordan's palm. Positive and negative charges concentrated at both ends of a plasma channel formed by ionized air. The surrounding electromagnetic field bound them firmly. Dazzling plasma flowed and shaped itself into a standard Jedi lightsaber.
Heat radiated from the blade in waves. Danger signals screamed through Anzu's enhanced senses. The temperature in the entire office began climbing.
"Alright, you win." Anzu immediately surrendered after witnessing such incredible creation. "Section Chief, you don't want the Special Affairs Section you worked so hard to build destroyed, do you?"
"Of course not." Jordan controlled the magnetic field. The lightsaber vanished. "But the process wasn't too difficult for me."
"As long as you know!"
Time passed amid noise and bustle. After the morning elapsed and all office staff had arrived, Jordan finally closed the last copy of Electromagnetic Theory in Microwaves and Optoelectronics, ending his occupation of his subordinate's workstation.
Anzu watched as invisible hands gathered the books and made them disappear. Knowing this was her Section Chief's telekinesis, she wasn't particularly surprised.
Jordan stood, nodding in response to Anzu's curious look. "Yes, I'm done."
"But so many books... that's equivalent to several semesters of physics courses, right?" Anzu made no attempt to hide her doubt. "Section Chief, did you actually understand them? Ow!"
"Learning is also part of training." Jordan delivered a casual chop to her head. "Besides, I'm not really doing research. As long as I'm not limited by cognitive blocks, I can leave the rest to superpowers and imagination."
With Saitama absent, Anzu naturally assumed the straight-man role. "Tsk. Sounds really convenient."
"By the way, Section Chief, when will that batch of energy weapons arrive?"
"Depends on when headquarters scientists can mass-produce them." Jordan paused, as if something occurred to him. He looked Anzu up and down thoughtfully.
Anzu felt extremely uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze. Certain forbidden images threatened to resurface. She took a deep breath and stepped back. "Section Chief, although I know I'm very charming now, office romances are forbidden by the Director!"
Instantly, all other sounds in the office vanished. The air filled with silent thought waves from eavesdropping colleagues.
"Hmm? So you're accusing me first, huh?"
Jordan chuckled, immediately abandoning his idea of switching out Anzu's character card.
Given this woman's personality, she'd only become more arrogant once she got stronger. And when that happened, who would he delegate all the Special Affairs Section's tedious work to?
With that settled, Jordan waved dismissively and stepped out of the office.
He activated Instant Teleportation and vanished completely.
Class dismissed for today.
"Phew, finally gone..."
Anzu breathed a long sigh of relief when she confirmed Jordan had disappeared.
Immediately, she found herself surrounded by eager onlookers.
"Uh... is it too late to say I was joking?"
