Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 B-Level Items

Lu Chuan felt a sudden tightening in his chest and cautiously approached the glowing memory point.

Logically speaking, it should be a safe time now.

But why did Qin Muxue die…

Just to be safe, Lu Chuan also kept an eye on Wang Dong's position. If anything went wrong, he could call for help immediately.

Unexpectedly, when he arrived, he discovered that the location of the memory point had no blood, and no corpse either.

It was just hovering in the air, small and faint.

Lu Chuan furrowed his brows and instantly realized something: this instance is not unique; someone had come here before and died right at this spot.

He focused his mind and touched the memory point again.

The memory started to play back!

"No, don't kill me!"

"Please, I'm begging you!"

A male player had been cornered, trembling all over, his face filled with terror.

In the direction he faced, a tall, decayed figure slowly approached, saliva dripping to the ground.

"Delicious… ingredients…"

"Chef… likes…"

Without a doubt, it was another monster dressed in a waiter's uniform, seemingly mutated from a restaurant server.

Seeing his pleas for mercy fail, the male player steeled his determination and raised his right hand, and a soft yellowish glow suddenly appeared.

Immediately, a half-human-height translucent shield materialized in front of him.

"Roar!!!"

The next moment, the server's sharp claws descended from above, aiming straight at the male player.

A shocking scene unfolded.

Clang, clang!

The server's normally unstoppable decayed claws failed to pierce the yellow shield, and the player managed to save his life.

However, after just one strike, visible cracks appeared on the shield, and it seemed that it would shatter after a few more hits.

"Roaaaar!!!"

The server became enraged and seemed to enter a second phase.

It attacked the yellow shield relentlessly, leaving no chance for the male player to escape, and the clangs of metal striking metal rang in his ears again and again.

Finally, under the server's frenzied assault...

The yellow shield shattered with a crash. The male player screamed in despair, yet the food runner had still ripped out his heart, and his gaze gradually dimmed.

The food runner dragged him by the ankles, heading deeper into the corridor.

No one noticed that something slipped off the male player's index finger and fell into a corner.

Memory playback ended!

"A shield that can block attacks?!"

Lu Chuan's eyes lit up. Taking advantage of Wang Dong not paying attention, he reached toward the corner and indeed felt something with his fingertips.

When he opened his hand, there was a ring in the palm, glowing with an earthy yellow light.

[Guardian Ring (B-level Item): Using it will temporarily form a yellow defensive shield, capable of blocking up to three non-Boss strange attacks. After three blocks, it will collapse. Can recharge once a day.]

Seeing this description, Lu Chuan's heart skipped a beat.

A B-level item?!

Keep in mind, this Blood Feast dungeon is only C-level. Doesn't that mean he got equipment ahead of the game?

"Lu Chuan, what are you doing?"

An impatient voice came from Wang Dong. Noticing Lu Chuan had fallen behind, he turned back and shouted.

Quick as lightning, Lu Chuan slipped the Guardian Ring into his pocket, not planning to share this item with Wang Dong.

In such a ruthless survival game…

Every secret is another chance to stay alive. That was exactly what Chen Rui had said. Lu Chuan simply applied it to himself.

"Nothing, you're too fast; I can't keep up," Lu Chuan said, lying smoothly, not even himself understanding why the lie came as easily as drinking cold water.

Whether it was Wang Dong being naive or Lu Chuan's schemer instincts at work, Wang Dong didn't suspect a thing. Instead, he pointed to a door ahead, nervously saying,

"That room ahead… it seems like there's some movement…"

"I'm thinking whether we should go in and take a look."

Recalling Zhang Jian's tragic state, even the always strong-bodied but simple-minded athlete Wang Dong hesitated.

Having tasted the benefit of memory playback, Lu Chuan wasn't about to miss the chance to get a free item. This time, he acted decisively.

"What's there to be afraid of? The system said the ten-minute safe time isn't up yet, and we haven't encountered any monsters along the way."

Upon hearing this, Wang Dong indeed got anxious.

"You talk so casually. If you're so brave, you go first!"

"Damn it, I've been leading the way all the way, and you're hiding at the back like a turtle. If it's your turn to open the door, then open it!"

Obviously, Wang Dong had long been annoyed with Lu Chuan for staying in the back. Or rather, he didn't want to be burdened with Lu Chuan, a complete outsider by profession.

Lu Chuan couldn't be bothered to argue with him and directly walked to the door, deliberately glancing at the ground.

No memory points.

This meant that, at the very least, no player had died in front of the door.

He no longer looked at Wang Dong and instead pushed the door open.

Creak…

The door hinge let out a harsh scraping sound. Wang Dong was dumbfounded, never expecting this weakling to actually go first.

The scene inside the door came into view.

It wasn't the terrifying kitchen or slaughterhouse he had imagined, but rather a somewhat messy lounge.

An iron-framed bed was against the wall, covered with a thick, soft dark blue velvet quilt. There was a bedside table next to it, and the rest of the room had miscellaneous items scattered around.

From the setup, it was clearly the lounge of someone with status.

"An employee lounge?"

Wang Dong breathed a sigh of relief but still felt resentful, feeling that Lu Chuan had stolen the spotlight.

Trying to take advantage of the situation, he immediately shoved Lu Chuan aside with his shoulder and rushed in to start rifling through everything.

Lu Chuan, on the other hand, walked over to the bed and picked up a metal name badge.

[Butcher on Duty · Old York]

Butcher on duty?

The core of the chef team, ranking just below the head chef and sous chef!

Instinct told Lu Chuan that this Old York was definitely a tough nut to crack. Being a butcher who made a living with his knife skills, his ruthlessness was probably extraordinary.

In a game scenario, he would be an elite monster.

"Haha, big find!"

Wang Dong's excited voice rang out as he struggled to pull something from under the cabinet—a heavy, old-fashioned meat cleaver with a wide blade.

The blade was covered with scratches and dark brown stains, with a faintly foul odor.

Yet, that still couldn't stop the terrifying gleam it reflected.

[Old York's Spare Cleaver (D-Level Item): A tool once used by Butcher Old York to "prepare ingredients." Although not as sharp as the main blade, chopping bones and meat is effortless.]

"Mine! This is mine!"

Wang Dong immediately claimed it, wary that Lu Chuan might take notice.

Lu Chuan couldn't be bothered to argue, looking at him as if he were a fool.

Just a D-level piece of junk.

He, on the other hand, had a B-level item capable of blocking three fatal attacks—the Guardian Ring.

Besides, that cleaver looked clumsy and heavy, not suitable for Lu Chuan at all.

The two searched again but didn't find any treasures like the cleaver, which made Wang Dong a bit annoyed.

"Strange, I clearly heard a sound just now…"

"Yeah, it sounded like classical music from music class, but it's been so long since music class that I've forgotten."

Wang Dong scratched his face awkwardly.

Since the second year of high school, both music and PE classes had disappeared, so the memory was definitely far away.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he finished speaking, a faint, broken melody suddenly played in the room.

It felt like a cold chill blowing over the sweat-soaked back of their necks.

Ding...

Dong...

The two instantly bristled with fear.

"WTF!!!"
