The girls accepted that explanation easily enough, since the last they knew, Ron and Harry had indeed been giving Julian the cold shoulder. Before long, the food trolley came by, and Julian treated everyone to chocolate bars, apple juice, and sandwiches. He also bought several boxes of Every Flavor Beans so they could play Blind Man's Luck. Luna had to be taught the rules first, but once she understood them, she turned into an absolute menace to play against because her strange ability to somehow sense the future made her nearly impossible to beat. Her talent for divination did not surprise Julian at all, since the books had implied it fairly heavily.
It had never really been explained how, but in the books she always seemed to know what was happening at any given time even without being told, and while some of that could certainly be explained by her reading the emotions of others, the rest was obviously something else. An innate gift for divination was the closest magical explanation Julian could come up with for how she did it. Maybe it was not as extreme as Grindelwald's own ability, where he could literally see the future, but Luna was still clearly extraordinarily gifted in that field.
Luna seemed to use that strange future sense of hers to predict both the color of the beans and which ones tasted foul. Honestly, it was about as close to cheating at the game as a person could get, but Julian could not call her out on it because he had no real proof. That did not mean he had to keep playing against her, however, and so he mostly remained on the sidelines whenever she took part. The other girls warmed to Luna fairly quickly once they got past the odd talk about magical creatures with no evidence of existing and whatever in the world nargles were supposed to be.
Julian found it almost cute how Luna kept trying to get him to reveal his magical energy to her in one way or another. The best attempt, at least in his opinion, though that might have been his pride talking, was when she told him it was the prettiest color she had ever seen and that she really wanted to look at it again. After that, he started teasing her by controlling his magical energy with extreme precision to form tiny shapes across his skin, like a snake slithering around him or, in one case, trying to make it look as though lightning was flashing over his body.
That last attempt produced a physical manifestation of the element itself, startling everyone in the compartment, including Julian. "That's new," Julian said awkwardly while everyone stared at him. "You really do live to make the rest of us feel inadequate, don't you," Tracy complained enviously. Even Daphne found herself nodding in agreement, because Julian was frankly already absurd enough as it was, and now he seemed to have yet another magical ability on top of whatever that creepy sixth sense of his was supposed to be.
She was also very deliberately ignoring the unsettling command he seemed to have over birds, something he never even bothered to hide. Daphne had personally seen birds drop out of the sky just to greet Julian before he dismissed them again, and the only thing she knew of that was even remotely similar was parseltongue, except that involved snakes and was far worse than whatever this ability of his turned out to be. "So lightning, huh? That's a pretty cool ability if you can summon storms and control them and all that," Luna said, looking impressed. Julian stiffened for a moment.
He had somehow completely forgotten until now that thunderbirds could control weather, and because of that, he had never actually tried doing anything like that until, technically speaking, just a few moments ago. Up until now, the only lightning he had ever used was the spell he had accidentally discovered a long time ago. "Please tell me you can't actually summon storms and control them," Tracy whined, practically begging him to say that was ridiculous. Unfortunately for her, she was not going to like the answer. "I... don't think so... probably," he said, since he honestly had no idea whether he could or not.
Tracy immediately seemed to lose all hope and collapsed into muttering about how unfair the world was.
"Can you make a rainbow?" Luna asked, looking up at Julian with the best puppy dog eyes she could manage. Julian felt his heart skip from sheer cuteness overload. "Have a cookie," he said in distress, quickly handing her one from Greed, which thankfully seemed to satisfy her for the moment. "Alright, I'm just going to be honest with all of you. I don't actually know every ability I do or don't have, aside from a couple. I'm willing to take suggestions if any of you can think of something worth testing," Julian said with a sigh, since he was more or less admitting now that he had more than one special ability.
