Julian left Flitwick's office in a very good mood, since he had not only set things in motion for Lockhart to be removed early, but had also arranged a way to avoid the man's classes until that happened. 'I doubt the old man will pass up a chance to get rid of that curse. In the meantime, I may need to do some reading on werewolves,' he thought seriously as he headed toward his nearby workshop. The moment he stepped inside, however, he swore aloud when he saw his friends handling his things with all the care of a herd of trolls. "How in the bloody hell did all of you even get in here? The door was locked," he asked in confusion.
And it had not been some ordinary lock either, but one specifically made to resist picking and immune to the unlocking charm. Helena looked awkwardly off to the side while trying to hide behind the furnace. Julian saw that immediately and let out a long, suffering sigh. "Shouldn't all of you be studying or something to make sure you do well in class?" he asked in exasperation as he snatched a ring mold out of Luna's hands. "The first week is just about getting us back into the rhythm of things, so we'll be fine. Relax," Tracy said while studying a ring mandrel with obvious confusion.
"I intended to relax, but then I discovered my long-dead relative had let my friends into my nice, carefully ordered workshop where they proceeded to touch everything. You probably do not even remember where you picked that up from, do you?" Julian asked irritably. Tracy looked at the mandrel, then glanced around the room before randomly setting it down beside a collection of tongs. "That does it. Everyone is being punished. PERVERSA MUNDI!" he said, casting a particularly unpleasant illusion spell that twisted the senses into absurd confusion and all but guaranteed a headache. It could make a person taste with their fingers or hear through the hair on their body.
The best part was that the effect was entirely random for each person it struck, and it hit everyone in the room except the caster. Instantly all of his friends started panicking as their senses turned into nonsense. While they were distracted by that, Julian quickly set about reorganizing all the tools and materials they had displaced. He did have to lift the spell from Luna early, however, because her nose started bleeding and she had clapped her hands over her ears. Seeing magic did not affect a person too badly in a place saturated with it like Hogwarts, but hearing it was an entirely different matter.
It forced the brain to interpret sounds that should never have existed in the first place and overwhelmed it alarmingly fast. Julian himself had experienced something similar the year before with his own magical senses, so he knew exactly how painful it was. "Hadn't expected it to work on magical senses too. I'll need to remember that next time," he admitted with a shrug while Luna slowly adjusted back to normal. "I do not like that spell very much," she said bluntly while using the transfigured napkin he had handed her to wipe the blood from her face.
Julian laughed. "Most of the time it's completely harmless, if rather disorienting. Perfect for teaching people not to touch your things. Want to learn it?" he asked with a broad grin. He had no doubt that Luna would eventually have to deal with bullying in Ravenclaw where he would not be around to help, and this spell was excellent for making a point. "Alright," Luna agreed eagerly, and Julian began teaching her the incantation, the wand movements, and the intent needed to cast it properly.
She practiced for a while, and by then Julian's other friends had finally started adjusting to their twisted senses, so he removed the spell from them and watched them immediately stumble all over again as their perception snapped back to normal. About five minutes later they had all fully recovered and were busy comparing just how miserable the experience had been. Ron had definitely been hit the hardest, since apparently he had ended up smelling through his feet and hearing colors. Given his poor hygiene, thick socks, and shoes, the result was easy enough to imagine.
"So I assume none of you will be touching my things again any time soon, hmm?" Julian asked, and they all shook their heads vigorously, which satisfied him. He then turned toward Helena. "I cannot really do anything about you, but do not make a habit of this or I will find a way," he warned before passing out cookies to everyone as though none of it had happened. After that, it became very clear to all of his friends that Julian absolutely hated people moving his belongings without permission.
