Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

After dinner, Chioma cleared the dishes while Louisa had already retired to bed. Chioma, feeling refreshed after her bath, entered the bedroom she shared with her mother, dressed in a pale pink nightdress. She sat at her study desk, turning on her laptop to search for job vacancies online. She wanted to explore opportunities in different companies and, if unsuccessful, she considered the option of working at Star Restaurant. She already had a specific company in mind to submit her CV to the following day.

As a Mass Communication graduate, Chioma had always dreamed of finding a job in media or a lucrative company and falling in love with a man whom she could spend the rest of her life with. Stability and security were her primary desires, not wealth and fortune, although she would be grateful for those as well if given the opportunity. However, after three years of graduating, she had begun to lose hope in finding a job and love. Her faith in almost everything had diminished, and her family and best friend were the only sources of hope in her life. Of course, God remained the number one priority.

Suddenly, Louisa patted Chioma's back, startling her. Chioma turned around and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing her mother. 'Thought you were already asleep,' she said.

Louisa, in a drowsy voice, instructed Chioma to go to sleep and advised her to submit her CV at Grace Shopping Mall, which was currently hiring sales attendants. If that didn't work out, she suggested Chioma join Chisom and become a waitress at Star Restaurant. Chioma nodded, closed her laptop, and rose from her seat. She kissed Louisa goodnight and turned off the light before joining her mother in the bed adorned with pink and blue blankets.
