Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 Language

'Mysterious language... are there any other languages in this world that are richer in Spirituality?'

Looking at the annotation on the book in her hand, Dorothy thought this in her heart. She had previously exchanged three characters of Nirn Dragon Language using Prit's common language. The Spirituality contained within a thousand common language words was only equivalent to one Dragon Language character.

If Dorothy wanted to exchange for other Dragon Language characters by only using the common languages of various countries, wouldn't she have to learn eight foreign languages? This was too inefficient. If there were more spiritually rich mystical languages in this world, the efficiency should be much higher.

While thinking, Dorothy continued to look at the old book in her hand, at the last and most important part of the large annotation.

Here, the annotator organized the obscure content in the prophetic story into clear and understandable spells, imitation spells in dreams. Although there were many stories in the book, the annotator seemed to have limited energy and only organized one, which was the spell for the thief to transform into a bird in the dream in the story of the thief and the miser.

...

"First of all, not the entire spell needs to use a mystical language. It is enough that the key fields are in a high-level language of Spirituality, such as this spell for imitating a bird in a dream. The language required is Harpy Language."

"Harpy Language is the language of the harpies. They were active from the Second Era to the Third Era and are now basically extinct. Their Empire was once the overlord of the sky, so many rituals and spells related to flying, birds, beasts, and the sky require the use of Harpy Language. This is no exception."

"According to my summary, the spell for imitating a bird in a dream is."

"In the name of Shunul, I shall grow wings, my strength can soar to the high sky, and my balance can traverse storms."

"Note that'Shunul' at the beginning refers to a deity. In the secret history, He is called 'Black Deathwing','Sky Grim Reaper', and is a deity in the triple domains of'Stone', 'Light', and'Silence'. Legend has it that He once controlled the sky, and was therefore worshipped by harpies, but He has now fallen. Therefore, His name does not need to be special here. Just read it directly in common language. Putting it before the spell is just for format requirements, not to seek His power."

"Next is the key. The following two keywords,'strength' and 'balance', must be read in Harpy Language. I apologize, my Harpy Language proficiency is limited, and I do not know these two words. However, after comparing the 'Abyss Language' translation, I can barely deduce and summarize the two most likely pronunciations. One is 'yita' and the other is 'yaya'."

...

"Pronunciations deduced and summarized... are they reliable..."

After muttering two sentences to herself, Dorothy closed the old book in her hand, and then she let out a long sigh. Now everything was ready, just waiting to enter the dream to experiment with the spell.

Then, Dorothy put the dream records into her suitcase and closed it, then stuffed it under the bed. Immediately after, she changed into her pajamas, turned off the Light, and lay on the bed.

Covering herself with the quilt, Dorothy lay on the bed and began to self-suggest according to the method taught in the old book before. The method was simple and effective. Soon, Dorothy felt sleepy and entered Dreamland.

...

Opening her eyes, Dorothy found herself in her room. After looking around, she got out of bed.

The room was silent at this time. There was no sound at all, terrifyingly quiet.

"So... I should be in a dream now?"

Talking to herself, Dorothy glanced at the gas lamp on the table, and then the lamp suddenly lit up without anyone operating it.

Dorothy was sure. This was a dream, her dream. She had entered the dream in a conscious state.

After confirming, Dorothy smiled slightly. Now that she had consciously entered the dream, the next thing to do was to chant the spell, imitate and transform into a flying bird, and then enter the Dream World.

Recalling the content of the dream records, Dorothy closed her eyes and began to chant.

"In the name of Shunul, I shall grow wings, my strength can soar to the high sky, and my balance can traverse storms."

Dorothy chanted the spell. According to the requirements on the annotation, most of the spell was read in common language, but the key words "strength" and "balance" were changed to the Harpy Language "yita" and "yaya".

After chanting, Dorothy waited for the change. Suddenly, a purple mist permeated around her. The mist enveloped her figure. When the mist dissipated, what appeared was not a flying bird.

On the floor of the room, where Dorothy had been standing, there was now a very strange-shaped monster fish wriggling. This monster fish was about half a meter long, with hands but no feet, and a pair of featherless chicken wing-like wings on its back. A large tail kept slapping the floor. Its fish eyes were wide open, and its mouth was wide open, like a large salted fish that was dehydrated and about to die of thirst.

"Bang!"

Accompanied by another burst of purple energy, the strange salted fish that had been flapping on the ground turned back into Dorothy, who was now coughing in the dust.

"Cough cough cough... what the hell did I turn into? Is that thing a flying bird? More like a salted fish!"

Coughing and complaining loudly, Dorothy's heart also began to feel doubtful at this time. Why did she suddenly turn into that strange thing?

'Could it be that I misread the spell?'

Dorothy thought so, but felt it was impossible. She had memorized these lines for a long time in reality and repeatedly confirmed that she should not have misread them.

Then there is only one possibility...

'This spell itself has a problem...'

Dorothy thought, according to the annotator, the key words of this spell need to be read in Harpy Language, but that annotator's Harpy Language was half-baked and did not know those two keywords, so He started with the translation of 'Abyss Language' and Harpy Language, and deduced the pronunciation of those two keywords from Abyss Language.

That is to say, the pronunciation of those two keywords was the annotator's own guess, and it was completely possible for the guess to be wrong. Moreover, He deduced and translated Harpy Language based on Abyss Language. Maybe He mixed up the pronunciation of Abyss Language and Harpy Language somewhere. The pronunciation of the keywords Dorothy just said might be Abyss Language...

That's why she turned into that bizarre thing.

This annotator was not only half-baked in Harpy Language, but also might be half-baked in translation...

"Hoo... this is really harmful..."

Dorothy said with a long sigh, and then she sat down at the desk in the dream and began to think about what to do next?

"Without the correct pronunciation of the Harpy Language keywords for the spell, it cannot be activated... But I don't know Harpy Language either, and the annotator's linguistics are half-baked... What should I do?"

Touching her chin, Dorothy began to think carefully.

"The keywords are balance... strength... strength... balance... Fus... Ro... Rus! Ro!"

Suddenly, Dorothy seemed to have an epiphany, and then slapped the table hard.

"Strength and balance... aren't the meanings of the two Nirn Dragon Language words I know also strength and balance?"

—Fus—means strength in Dragon Language, and—Ro—means balance in Dragon Language.

What if I replace those two keywords in the spell with Dragon Language?

It seems worth a try.

If the harpies once dominated the sky, and their language was remembered by the sky, then why not Dragons?

Thinking of this, Dorothy directly pulled out a piece of paper and wrote the new spell on it. After carefully observing it, she crossed out the name of Shunul, the fallen deity worshipped by the harpies in the spell, and replaced it with another name.

"Akatosh."

This was the Time Dragon God in the world of The Elder Scrolls, the common ancestor and deity of all Dragons in that world. For the sake of format symmetry, Dorothy thought that since the keywords were replaced with Dragon Language from another world, the deity at the beginning should also be replaced with a Dragon God from another world.

Anyway, the deity name in this spell is just for format requirements and does not play any real role. The source of the spell's power is those two keywords.

After the modification was completed, the spell in Dorothy's hand had become.

In the name of Akatosh, I shall grow wings, my strength can soar to the high sky, and my balance can traverse storms.
