Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Talisman

"Holy crap... 100 pound right off the bat, why don't you just rob me?!"

In the basement of Saint Amanda School, hearing Mr. Aldrich's offer, Dorothy complained in her heart. She was nowhere near having that much money right now.

"Anything related to secrets is terrifyingly expensive. This 100 pound is almost enough for Grego to buy the apartment he's renting directly. Where the heck am I supposed to get that much money now?"

Dorothy covered her forehead, thinking. At this moment, she looked at Mr. Aldrich, who was showing a benevolent smile, and the more she looked, the more she felt it was the smile of a shrewd businessman.

"Well, Mr. Aldrich, could you make the price a little cheaper? I don't have that much money right now..." Dorothy said to Mr. Aldrich, trying her best to use her cute appearance to make herself look more pitiful, but Mr. Aldrich was completely immune to it.

"Heh heh, as I said, Miss Meisihuos, I am a man who absolutely follows the rules, and the price is also a rule. The price I offer will not change even if the sky falls. If you don't have enough money, you can go back and save up slowly. Come back whenever you have saved enough. I can wait for ten or eight years." Mr. Aldrich continued to say to Dorothy with a chuckle. Hearing his words, Dorothy's face couldn't help but sink, her mouth flattened, and then she put her hands down, no longer pretending.

Now Dorothy was in a bit of a predicament. She only had about 20 pound in cash at the moment, and not much in terms of mysterious items. The Corpse Puppet Ring was her main equipment now and certainly couldn't be sold. She only had one finger left with the Spirituality of the "Cup", which was to be used as a power bank for the ring. So, what else could she trade now?

Just as Dorothy was troubled, she turned her head and saw a few bodies covered with white cloths beside her. These were the Holy Communion Society henchmen Dorothy had dealt with earlier.

Looking at these bodies, Dorothy suddenly had a few more ideas.

"Mr. Aldrich, may I ask, since these Holy Communion Society henchmen are dead, to whom do their belongings belong?"

Turning her head, Dorothy asked Mr. Aldrich, who replied casually.

"According to the rules of hunting, whoever killed them owns them."

Hearing Mr. Aldrich's words, Dorothy felt a wave of relief in her heart, thinking that he really did abide by principles. In the current situation, even if Mr. Aldrich said everything belonged to him, Dorothy wouldn't be able to do anything.

"So that means, except for the last one who was killed by Captain, the belongings on the others belong to me?"

Dorothy continued, and Mr. Aldrich nodded silently.

Seeing Mr. Aldrich's attitude, Dorothy was delighted in her heart, and then resolutely lifted the white cloth and began looting.

These henchmen didn't seem like Extraordinary, but at the very end, they burst out with incredibly powerful non-human physical abilities. For ordinary people who are not Extraordinary to do this, it is highly likely that they relied on some external objects.

In other words, these henchmen might have some Extraordinary items given by the Holy Communion Society!

Dorothy lifted the white cloths from the bodies one by one, and after lifting one white cloth and seeing the body beneath, she was slightly stunned.

Covered under this white cloth was a skeletal body, with its mouth wide open, eyes wide, and almost dried up. From the clothes on its body, it could be seen that this was one of the two coachmen who had previously displayed super strong physical abilities and almost forced Dorothy to use Dragon Roar.

"Dry, dry corpse? How did it suddenly turn into a dry corpse? This should have been shot dead by the gun I controlled with the Corpse Puppet, right? Getting shot shouldn't turn you into a dry corpse!"

Looking at the scene before her, Dorothy couldn't help but frown and think. Then she began to lift the white cloths covering the other bodies, and found that the body of the other coachman had also turned into a dry corpse.

Something fishy...

Seeing this scene, Dorothy began to seriously bend down and search the bodies. Then she searched a pile of loot from the four bodies. Immediately after, Dorothy arranged the loot on the ground and slowly counted it.

Four six-shot revolvers, 124 rounds of ammunition, two watches, eight cigarettes, 4 pound 57 millicoin in cash, and finally... 7 palm-sized pieces of coarse paper with red mysterious patterns and abstract cups drawn in the middle.

Dorothy had found one of these pieces of coarse paper on the coachman she killed, and two more on the other three bodies. It could be seen that this was their basic equipment.

This is it...

Looking at the coarse paper in her hand, Dorothy thought, only this thing looked most like a cult item.

"Mr. Aldrich, do you know what this is?"

Holding a piece of coarse paper, Dorothy asked Mr. Aldrich, who was drinking tea nearby. Mr. Aldrich glanced at it and answered.

"I know... but the appraisal fee is 10 pound."

"Damn... truly a shrewd businessman..."

Hearing Mr. Aldrich's words, Dorothy complained in her heart, but after hesitating for a while, she opened her backpack and took out 6 pound in cash, then added the 4 pound she had looted earlier, making it 10 pound in cash, and handed it to Mr. Aldrich. Now Dorothy only had 14 pound left on her.

Unhurriedly, Mr. Aldrich smiled and accepted the money Dorothy handed over, then glanced at the coarse paper in Dorothy's hand again and spoke silently.

"This is a Symbol, the Raw Consumption Symbol originating from the Fetal Garment Cult. Nowadays, basically any 'Cup' society will make them. Symbols are single-use. After using this kind of Symbol, it will enhance the user's physical ability by consuming the 'Cup' Spirituality in the user's body. For ordinary people, using it once is almost equivalent to exhausting all the 'Cup' in their body, and then they will turn into that appearance. So... if you don't have enough 'Cup', it's best not to use it."

As Mr. Aldrich spoke, he pointed to the two dry corpses on the ground not far away. Hearing Mr. Aldrich's words, Dorothy's heart couldn't help but be startled.

"Consume the 'Cup' Spirituality in the body to enhance physical ability? So this is the purpose of this thing. But if there is no extra 'Cup' accumulated in the body, then this thing will consume the 'Cup' that everyone is born with and uses to maintain vitality, which turns into consuming life... No wonder those two guys turned into dry corpses... This is the consequence of losing the last 'Cup'."

Thinking of this, Dorothy felt that the Holy Communion Society must have invested heavily in this operation. These were clearly suicide attackers...

"Then, Mr. Aldrich, can you give me a price for this Symbol again?" Dorothy continued to ask Mr. Aldrich, and after thinking for a while, Mr. Aldrich spoke directly.

"The Raw Consumption Symbol is not some profound technique, but it still costs a bit to make. How about this, I can count each one as 30 pound for you?"

Hearing Mr. Aldrich's words, Dorothy directly handed him four Symbols and said.

"Deal. Now you can tell me the ritual. Oh, right, remember to give me back 20 pound."

"Heh heh... no problem, wait a moment."

As he spoke, Mr. Aldrich slowly walked into a room in the basement. After a while, he came out of the room with an envelope and several banknotes in his hand.

"Here, Miss Meisihuos, everything you want to know is in here. But I still have to remind you slightly, although very subtle, there is still Spirit Sight in it. It's best to be prepared when you read it."

Looking at the letter Mr. Aldrich handed over, Dorothy's eyes lit up. Finally, her promotion was within reach. Now Dorothy just wanted to go home immediately, open the letter, and see.
