Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Horde

The street was a nightmare.

A horde of twisted creatures, the size of large dogs with too many teeth, feasted on the remains of a fallen pedestrian. They looked up as Jiang Yuan emerged, their red eyes locking onto him. There were at least a dozen of them.

"Shit."

[Threat count: 12. Direct combat is not recommended. Evasion route: left, through the broken storefront. The horde will lose interest in 60 seconds.]

Jiang Yuan didn't wait. He sprinted for the shattered window of a convenience store, diving headfirst through the broken glass. Shards cut into his arms, but he didn't feel the pain. He scrambled to his feet and ran deeper into the store, the sounds of the horde's snarls fading behind him.

He leaned against a shelf, gasping for air, and checked his phone.

[Threats eliminated from route. You have 8 minutes remaining to reach the supermarket.]

He looked down at his bleeding arms. The temporary strength boost was fading, and the pain was starting to hit him. He rummaged through the shelves, finding a roll of bandages and a bottle of antiseptic. He quickly wrapped his wounds, his hands shaking.

Survival was getting harder. But he was still alive.
