Chapter 1 - The End Begins

It was a normal day for Langston; he had been attending classes for only three months before graduation. But waking up that day, he felt a nagging feeling of dread.

"Hey, Damian, does something feel off to you?" Langston asked his roommate as he packed his bookbag and kendo gear

"Naw, man feels like any other day...why are we forgetting something?" Damian replied

"No...just feeling off today," Langston said as he pushed aside the feelings and left for class

Walking through the campus, Langston felt that feeling grow more and more until he went to the bathroom, rinsed his face a few times, and calmed himself.

"Breath...breath," Langston spoke as he took deep breaths and focused on his upcoming class

Leaving the restroom, Langston arrived at class and sat next to Damian, who had arrived just before him.

"Now, how did I make it here before you?" Damian asked as he laid his head on the table.

"I was just walking slowly," Langston replied as he sat down.

As the rest of the class filed in and the professor began instructions, Langston looked out the window at the people down below.

"I don't get why I was feeling so stressed?" Langston asked himself

But the next moment, the sound of a hundred thunderclaps rang out, causing most people to cover thier ears and even cracking one of the windows.

"What the hell," a student spoke outloud

Suddenly, a voice sounded out to everyone.

"Hello, humans of Earth. I am the angel Seraphina and I am here to deliver a message to you all. In mere moments, your world will be merged with the world of New Eden. Once that happens, your world will be changed forever, and you will all gain the ability to use mana. I wish you luck, humans, for you will need it," the voice with no source spoke

As the voice finished its message, the sound of rumbling could be heard as the ground began to shake.

"What the hell was that man?" Damian asked as he looked over at Langston

"I don't know..." Langston replied as he looked at the building shaking in the distance

The next moment, screaming could be heard alongside the sounds of explosions.

"Oh my god, look," a student yelled, pointing out the window.

As everyone gathered near the window, they saw towers rise from the ground, growing as high as skyscrapers, and at their bases, monsters as large as trucks and hordes of smaller monsters were released.

Seeing this, Langston took a step back away from the crowd and gathered his thoughts

(This was it...that feeling of dread, it was because of this)

While his mind was running wild, he was the monsters making thier way into the school building, including the one they were in.

Seeing that Langston rushed to the door, but it was too late as the door burst open and three small creatures with green skin, thin limbs, a pot belly, a long, bumpy nose, and a terrible stench stood before him. Looking at thier hands, he saw that two held rusty knives, as one was armed with a wooden club.

As he heard his classmates' panic, Langston felt calm for the first time all day. Rushing forward, he kicked one of the short creatures with a knife out into the hall.

Lifting his fist, he swung down on the second closest monster. Hitting its head, he was surprised by how soft it was as he broke its skull and damaged its brain, causing it to go limp.

Finally, the last creature, with a knife, charged in. Grabbing the club from the creature he just knocked down, Langston gave a horizontal swing right into the creature's side. As it collided, the sound of bones breaking echoed as the creature let out a scream of agony before slamming into the wall, leaving a splatter of dark green blood.

Turning back to the third one that was still trying to gather its bearings, Langston threw the club with its speed and accuracy, even surprising him as it collided with the creature's skull, killing it.

Letting out a deep breath, Langston looked at the carnage and was surprised at his strength. But his surprise grew as a floating screan appered before him.

"What is this thing?" Langston muttered to himself as he stared at the screen

"L...Langston...y-you okay man?" Damian asked as she slowly walked up to Langston

"Yes, surprisingly, I'm fine...better than normal actually," Langston replied as he examined his body

"How did you do that...you killed them all without breaking a sweat," another student asked

"I'm curious too, but first we need to barricade this door before any more of those things get in," Langston spoke as he turned away from the screen.

Following his order, all of the students gathered everything in the classroom, not barricading the door.

Once that was done, everyone sat in small groups with thier friends as Langston stood near the door with Damian.

"So you're going to tell me how you did that. I know you're strong, but that was insane," Damian asked

"I know it will seem crazy, but given everything that's happening, I will just say it's a screen, a blue screen that appeared before me, talking about all these different things. I think it was the cause," Langston replied

"Wait, slow down. What do you mean?"

"Look, when I killed those things, a screen appeared before me, saying I had awoken...I think it had something to do with the voice and what it said about humans gaining mana," Langston added

"Okay...so you're saying we have to kill those things to 'awaken' like you?" Damian asked

"Yes,"

"Alright, but how does that explain your crazy display of strength if you received the 'screen' after killing them?"

"I don't know...look, in truth, I'm as clueless as you...give me some time, and I will try to find out more about it. You just focus on watching the door for anymore of those monsters, alright," Langston spoke

"...Alright, ma,n just let me know what you find out," Damian replied

Moving to a cornor Langston looked back at the screen still before him.

(Alright...what are you and what can you do?) Langston thought as he focused on the glowing blue screens.
