Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: THE SERPENT'S SMILE

The air in the isolation wing tasted of antiseptic and something else, something metallic and cold that clung to the back of the throat. Fluorescent lights hummed overhead, their pale grow barely penetrating the shadows that pooled in the corners of the reinforced room. Chains lay coiled on the floor like sleeping serpent and in their center sat a man who shouldn't have been beautiful but was devastatingly so.

Evelyn's heels clicked softly against the concrete floor, the sound too delicate for this place. Her brown eyes adjusted to the dim light, taking in the figure who watched her with the stillness of a predator assessing prey. Jungkook didn't move but his dark ocean eyes followed every shift of her body. Every sway of her hips beneath the professional white coat that did nothing to conceal her curves.

"Hello," she said. Her voice bright and musical against the silence. Her smile was a curve of innocence in this place of contained violence. "Jungkook, okay?"

His chains clicked as he tilted his head, the movement unnervingly graceful for someone restrained. A slow, unsettling smile spread across his face, all sharp angles and dangerous promise. "Ah...the pretty new doctor finally come to see me."

His voice was smooth velvet, purring through the space between them but beneath the surface ran currents of something predatory. The way his gaze lingered on the exposed skin of her throat, the deliberate sweep over her form. It wasn't appreciation. It was possession.

"Tell me,Doctor..." He shifted slightly, chains rattling like bones. "Do you always walk into cages with wolves?"

Evelyn's laugh was a soft, cute giggle that shouldn't have belonged in this sterile cage. "No." She knelt before him, the scent of her perfume, something floral and warm cutting through the cold air. Her fingers worked the lock on his wrist restraints with steady precision. "Come here, let me check your wrist."

The moment the metal fell away, his freed hand came up to rub at the red marks circling his wrist. His lips curled into a smirk as he watched her, an intensity in his gaze that bordered on hunger. "You're bold, Doctor... or just reckless."

He stood in one fluid motion, invading her space until she could feel the heat radiating from his body. His voice dropped to a whisper that slid like silk against her skin. "Tell me... do you always unlock monsters, or am I just special?"

His fingers twitched at his sides, the movement so slight she might have imagined it if not for the way her pulse jumped in response. The air between them thickened, charged with something that smelled like danger and felt like electricity.

"Just you," she said, her smile never faltering. "Sit down. I need to check your health." She lifted her pinky, a gesture so childishly innocent it shouldn't have worked on either of them. "Promise it didn't hurt."

His smirk widened as he studied her extended finger, then slowly linked his own pinky with hers. His touch lingered too long, his skin surprisingly warm against hers. "Promises are dangerous, Doctor... especially with someone like me."

He sat, but his eyes never left hers, dark and calculating as they tracked her every movement. "Tell me...do you make pinky promises with all your patients... or just the ones you want to get hurt by?" His voice was a low, teasing purr that vibrated through the space between them.

Evelyn's hands were professional and efficient as she checked his vitals—the stethoscope cold against his chest, the blood pressure cuff tight around his arm. She could feel the steady thrum of his heart beneath her fingers, a rhythm that felt too controlled for someone supposedly unstable.

"Just you," she murmured, focusing on the sugar level test. The prick of the lancet didn't make him flinch. Nothing did. "Okay done. Everything seems well."

His hand shot out, catching her wrist before she could pull away. His grip was firm but not painful, his thumb tracing slow circles over her pulse point where her blood beat too fast. "Everything's well... except for one thing."

His voice dropped to a whisper, his lips dangerously close to her ear. Hot breath ghosted over her skin, raising goosebumps in its wake. "You didn't check my temperature... and I'm burning up for you, Doctor."

Evelyn giggled, the sound too bright for the darkness in his eyes. She reached for the thermometer. "Say aaa."

He parted his lips obediently, but his eyes were anything but docile, dark, amused, and full of wicked intent as they watched her place the thermometer under his tongue.

"Aaa... but Doctor," his voice was a low, teasing hum around the device, "are you sure you're checking the right fever?" He leaned in as the thermometer beeped, his lips brushing her ear. "Because I can think of... hotter places to take my temperature." His chuckle was pure sin, wrapping around her like smoke.

"See, your temperature is normal," she said, checking the reading.

He snatched the thermometer from her hand and tossed it aside. The plastic clattered against the far wall as his fingers tangled in her curls, yanking her close with a possessiveness that stole her breath.

"Normal?" His laugh was dark, his breath hot against her lips. "Oh, Doctor... you have no idea what you do to me." His grip tightened, voice dropping to a growl that vibrated through her bones. "Let me show you just how abnormal I can be."

Tears sprung to her eyes immediately, making them glisten like emeralds in the dim light. "I-its hurt," she whispered, her bottom lip trembling.

His grip loosened immediately, but his eyes stayed locked on hers, dark and unreadable as they traced the tear tracks on her cheeks. "Tears, Doctor?" He tilted his head, thumb brushing her cheek almost tenderly. "I thought you liked playing with fire."

His voice dropped to a whisper that felt more dangerous than his shouting. "But maybe... you're not as reckless as I thought." He released her, stepping back with a smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "Pity."

Evelyn wiped at her tears, the movement delicate. He watched her with a mix of amusement and something darker, licking his lips slowly as if tasting the salt of her tears in the air.

"Such pretty tears... wasted on me." His smirk grew, eyes glinting with mischief. "Tell me, Doctor... do you always cry this easily? Or is it just... my effect on you?" He leaned in again, voice a teasing whisper that promised things she shouldn't want. "I could make you cry so much prettier."

A small whine escaped her throat, so soft it was almost swallowed by the humming lights.

He chuckled low in his throat, the sound vibrating through her as he traced a finger down her damp cheek. "Such a sweet little whine... like a kitten begging to be played with." His eyes darkened, voice dropping to a sinful purr. "Tell me, Doctor... do you want me to make you whimper? Or are you just teasing me?" His thumb brushed her lower lip, the touch feather-light and threatening. "Be careful... I bite."
