Chapter 2 - Boo!

---Now Centering: The King---

This is the story of Charles Brownwood.

Charles Brownwood is the king of Brownwood, thus his name. Growing up, he had been told that pride was the most important thing a king could have, so he was prideful.

When someone insulted his kingdom, he beat them up. When someone spread rumours about him, he beat them up.

It was all this fighting that got his mentor interested in him. His mentor, seeing his tenacity, taught him the blade. He taught him better than any other instructor could, until he was the world's seventh Sword Saint.

So, why?

Why was the hero he summoned and supported killing his guards? Could it be for strength? No. No, that couldn't be it. For strength, one had to be alive. And to be alive, one had to have organs.

The hero's organs were hangling limp from his stomach, red splattered through the throne room as it went on a rampage, slaughtering dozens of guards at once, each at least a 5 star swordsman equal to that of a hundred men.

So no, it couldn't be for strength.

Perhaps, could it be?

Could it be that the fourth weakling hero, the one he thought of as fodder, was the culprit behind this?

After all he had burst from the hero's stomach, and he was choking him right now.

Wait...

He was being choked, he had to fight back.

The king, regaining his senses, grabbed the sword from his hilt and in a way unbecoming of a king, swung wildly. Somehow, the boy dodged all his attacks and suddenly, the hero stood behind him.

"Hold him down." the boy commanded, and the corpse followed. It reached out the hero's hand and with incredible strength, held him down.

For the first time in a decade, the king felt fear. He recognised the feeling, but he never thought he'd have to face it again.

The last time he felt fear, he was a child running through the castle halls. He'd pass a corridor and, at the edge of his vision, seen a dark figure passing through the hallway at an unimaginable speed.

He knows now that it was just his imagination, but he'd been so convinced that he saw a ghost, he didn't step foot in that hallway for five years.

Now, with a hero's corpse looming over him and dead bodies strewn across the hall, if he'd felt this fear that day, he would have burnt the kingdom down.

---Now Centering: Kane Enkidu---

|Achievement [Jumpscare] Acquired! Skill:[Invisibility] unlocked!|

|Achievement [First Blood] Acquired! Skill: [Soul Harvest] unlocked!]|

|[Possession] upgraded!|

"System," Kane muttered, "Open up the details of these skills."

A line formed in front of him, which then stretched out into a screen.

|[Possession]

Has two variants: body control and mind control. Body control can be activated by making skin contact with the target for a total of 9 seconds. Mind control can be activated by causisng the target to feel fear or reverence 3 times. Both variants can be passed from victim to victim by meeting the requirements. Victims count as the user to Skills. Current max targets: 1|

|[Invincibility]

Allows the user to go invisible, invincible and intangible. However, this can only be toggled when the user is not in someone's line of sight. Attacks hit within 1 second of becoming visible are twice as effective. The user releases an aura of fear for 30 seconds after becoming visible.|

|[Soul Harvest]

Allows the user to collect the souls of the dead if the user was the direct cause of their death. Souls strengthen the user and can be exchanged for 'Shards' that can be used in the System's shop.|

'Interesting.' he thought, turning to look at the king. Too scared to even speak, the king simply shook and stared at him.

He approached the king, kneeling down and slapping him. He then turned to the possessed corpse.

"Kill him."

The corpse lifted its fist, then slammed down. Again, again, again. Finally, the king drew his last breath. He walked towards the king's corpse and placed his hand on it.

|[Soul Harvest] used! 1 soul gained!|

*TEEEWN...*

A rising sound pierced through the System's text-to-speech. Turning to the throne room's door, there stood a battalion of soldiers. They pointed at him, each fingertip bearing a magic circle. In the middle of the croud stood a woman. She stood out, wearing white armour compared to the soldier's regular iron. Her visor was up, revealing her face.

"Get on your knees and put your hands in the air! We have you cornered!"

Kane looked around the room, searching for an exit, but found none. he was almost ready to surrender, when a realisation hit him.

'Cornered, not surrounded?'

Looking behind him, to where the king's throne was, Kane spotted it, a chance to escape. Light shining through, tinted in many colours, were windows. He looked up at the throne room's chandelier and confirmed his suspicions.

'Those are candles, not lightbulbs. They might not have the technology needed to fly!'

"Cover me!" he shouted, running towards the windows.

*Woosh!*

Fireballs and icicles flew at him, but were blocked by the hero's corpse. It charged at the soldiers as Kane broke through the glass. Leaping through the broken window, he found himself miles above the ground.

Wind passed through him as gravity pulled him down. Falling at an incredible speed with no way of stopping, Kane started panicking.

'Shit, I didn't think we'd be this high up! This doesn't even make any sense! Who puts a dungeon in the middle of their castle! Fuck, am I gonna die again? I-'

Then, like a lightbulb switching on, an idea formed.

'[Invisibility]!'

His body faded out of view as he hit the ground, rolling from the momentum. He sighed in relief, before noticing a large shadow under him. He moved away and a moment later, the hero's corpse landed where he was, now with broken bones and torn muscles.

"Uh oh," Kane mumbled, "I gotta get outta here."

After using [Soul Harvest] on the corpse, he got up and started running. He didn't run for long though, as he was stopped by a large gate.

'I hope this works...'

Resuming his sprint, Kane ran towards the gate and passed through its bars. He shuddered at the sensation, but shrugged it off as he ran.
