Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 5 — The First Step: Pain, Discipline & A New Beginning

Morning light crept through the broken wooden window, falling softly across the uneven mud floor. Dust floated lazily in the air, glowing faintly like tiny stars.

Jiang Yanyan lay still on the narrow bed, staring at the cracked ceiling above her. For a long moment, she didn't move.

Her mind replayed everything she had seen, heard, and endured since waking up in this body.

The mocking stares.

The crude whispers.

The disgusted looks.

The hidden laughter.

She slowly clenched her fingers beneath the thin quilt.

"This life… I refuse to live it like this."

Inside her mind, the translucent system panel flickered.

[Beginner Mission Activated: Body Reconstruction Program.]

[Duration: 90 Days.]

[Objective: Reduce body fat, rebuild metabolism, restore skin quality, and improve stamina.]

Her heartbeat quickened.

"What do I do?" she whispered.

[Daily Plan Generated.]

A glowing schedule unfolded before her eyes —

05:00 – Morning walking & stretching (2 hours)

07:30 – Light breakfast: herbal water + steamed vegetables

10:00 – Household labor + movement training

13:00 – Balanced lunch

16:00 – Endurance walking & breathing exercises

19:00 – Light dinner

21:00 – Herbal soak + muscle recovery

Her lips parted slightly.

Two hours of walking?

With this body?

She laughed bitterly.

"So you're trying to kill me."

But deep down — she knew.

There was no easy way out.

The First Morning Run

The sky was still dark when Jiang Yanyan pushed open the wooden door.

Cold wind swept against her face, instantly waking her senses. The village was silent, only faint rooster calls echoing from afar.

She wrapped her old jacket tightly and stepped onto the dirt road.

One step.

Two steps.

Ten steps.

Her breathing began to grow uneven.

Her chest felt tight.

Sweat quickly coated her back.

By the time she reached the end of the village path, her vision blurred.

She bent forward, hands on knees, gasping heavily.

"Just walking… and I'm dying already?"

Her throat burned.

Her legs trembled violently.

For a moment, she truly wanted to turn back.

But then she remembered —

Her past self.

Perfect posture.

Flawless skin.

Confident smile.

A life where people admired her instead of despising her.

Her eyes hardened.

She straightened slowly and kept walking.

Step after painful step.

When she finally stumbled back home, the sun had already risen high.

Her legs gave out.

She collapsed onto the stool beside the stove, chest heaving violently.

Her clothes were soaked through.

Her arms trembled uncontrollably.

She closed her eyes, fighting dizziness.

[Endurance +1]

[Fat burning acceleration activated.]

She almost laughed.

"So I suffer… and you throw me numbers?"

But slowly, beneath the exhaustion —

A faint warmth spread through her limbs.

It was subtle.

But real.

Her body was chang

That night, she soaked her legs in warm herbal water.

The moment her swollen calves touched the liquid —

Pain shot straight to her spine.

She sucked in a sharp breath, teeth clenched, eyes burning.

Her reflection in the water was miserable.

Face flushed.

Hair damp.

Eyes red.

Yet within that exhaustion —

A strange sense of pride bloomed.

"I didn't quit."

She closed her eyes.

For the first time since transmigrating —

She slept deeply.

Seven days passed.

Her body still ached.

Her hunger still screamed.

But something was different.

Her breathing steadied.

Her steps lightened.

Her skin seemed less dull.

She touched her face in disbelief.

"…Did I really lose weight?"

Inside her mind —

[Weight reduction: -2.5kg.]

Her lips parted.

Tears suddenly welled.

Not from sadness —

But from hope.

That night, she stood before the small cracked mirror.

She stared at her reflection — still fat, still clumsy — but no longer hopeless.

She raised her chin slightly.

"Wait for me."

"I will come back."

And in that dim little room —

The rebirth truly began.
