Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Damn it all!!!

Chapter 2: Damn it all!!!

" What took you guys so long?" Said a blonde of the duo of girls, pouting in the direction of Neji and Shimpei. Particularly at Shimpei who revealed a soft look.

The other girl had a more goth like look, who Neji pulled closer to the moment he reached her. To which, she didn't resist.

" Ouch!" Neji winced when the got pinched his side. He glanced at his girlfriend who flashed him a look as if saying he dared to make her wait.

" We were just seeing our friend off." The both of them said.

" Oh..." said the Blonde girl, " Well why didn't you say so, you could've asked him to come with us."

" I think it's a bit too late for that, he said he had something to do just now." Shimpei said hurriedly, the last thing he wanted was to make his friend become even more miserable by tagging along as some kind of fifth wheel.

His girlfriend gave him a suspicious look, glancing at Mitsuki who stood there in distance, but decided to brush it off. And just like that, the two couples left.

******

Mitsuki watched the four of them disappear into the crowd, laughing and holding hands, while he stood frozen like a discarded prop

He stood there for a good while, before his body began to tremble. The next moment he began laughing mockingly, pressing a hand onto his face.

The sight naturally attracted uncomfortable looks from those walking by.

He wasn't laughing at them this time but at himself, even now, he felt as if the very heavens were mocking him and his soggy no existent relationship.

" I never asked for a harem, not did I mention any standards whatsoever, and yet, even then." His voice trailed off, he took his hand off his face before clenching it tightly.

The next moment, he shoved it upwards at the sky flashing a middle finger upward.

" You know what! F*CK it! I don't care anymore! I'm done relying on you frauds. You're all nothing more than Ponzi scheme artist's you hear me!" He cursed, yet he wasn't crazy enough to shout out in the open like a mad man, of course he reduced his voice.

Mitsuki who was staring up at the clouds suddenly frowned when he saw those very white clouds begin to darken, on a sunny clear sky, such a sight was definitely out of the ordinary.

" Oh? Are you angry because I struck the nail on the head?" Rather than feeling fear, the guy simply sneered in provocation.

As if hearing his words, the clouds suddenly began to rumble with lightning, a violet flash emerged before vanishing, the next moment, everything went back to normal, whether the turbulent clouds or rumbling sounds, they all vanished.

If only he knew what was about to happen next, perhaps he would wish to go back in time and plead dearly for a do over.

[Ding: Survive 365 days and get the opportunity to request one wish from the heavens]

While Mitsuki stood frozen, his middle finger still half-extended toward the now-clear sky, a shimmering light suddenly flickered in front of his face.

' What in the world?' he unconsciously cursed, while stumbling back, heart flinching momentarily.

He watched as the light coalesced into a small holographic creature which left him even more dumbfounded, rather any normal creature, the one that floated before him was actually a fox with not one, not two, but nine magnificent tails floating behind it like beautiful golden flames.

Although when it came to the size department, it was quite adorable looking and chibi sized. Nevertheless, being so unconventional, he didn't dare to underestimate it.

Mitsuki stared at the creature. The creature stared back, its eyes gleaming with ancient amusement.

He turned silent for a moment, before realization dawned on him. As a seasoned Otaku, how could he not understand what was happening.

"Let me guess," Mitsuki said, his voice dripping with sarcasm despite the trembling in his hands. "This is the so-called punishment the heavens sent to get back at me for that." He jabbed his thumb toward the sky.

" Those useless old things couldn't take a little criticism, Instead they decided to send some midget sized mutated rodent to haunt me?"

The fox's ear twitched. "First," it said, its voice melodic yet sharp, "I am a kitsune, not some rodent...." It's tone emphasised strongly on the rodent part, as if it wouldn't tolerate such disrespect again.

" Second, you're quite bold for a human who just insulted the heavens, though not the first and I'm sure you definitely won't be the last." She said as if thinking of something.

' The hell is she talking about?' he thought to himself.

Mitsuki's eyes then darted to the side. A salaryman walked past, absorbed in his phone, not even glancing in their direction. Then he also noticed a group of college girls giggled nearby, oblivious to the little thing Infront of him. No one stared at the floating nine-tailed fox. Nor did they point, or screamed or pulled out their phones.

' They obviously can't see it.' he thought to himself. He wasn't surprised either way since it was the norm.

He filed that information away and returned his gaze to the creature, crossing his arms. "Look, whatever game you and your celestial buddies are running, you're going to be real sorry when you realize I'm not the loser you think I am."

The fox tilted its head, a smirk playing on its tiny muzzle. "Except when it comes to your love life."

Mitsuki's eye twitched, while the fox's smirk widened.

He chose to ignore her. Turning on his heel, he began walking in the direction of his apartment, hands shoved deep into his pockets.

The fox floated alongside him, matching his pace effortlessly, those nine tails streaming behind like a bizarre parade float only he could see.
