Chapter 1 - Rebir

In the middle of the Lake of Gangi lay a monster.

Its name was Rebir a being capable of rewriting history as easily as words on a page.

On this day, Rebir watched two teenagers from afar: a young drulew and a human boy, both silently wishing for better lives.

With a thought, Rebir transported them to the edge of his lake.

Before them stretched a vast body of water so immense that mortal eyes could not perceive its limits. It looked less like a lake and more like an endless ocean, where sky and water merged into a single, boundless horizon.

As far as they could see, there was nothing but blue emptiness.

Reality crashed down on the teenage boys. Confused and afraid, they began trying to speak to one another an instinctive attempt to cling to something familiar.

But they quickly discovered they spoke different languages.

While they struggled to communicate, the water began to stir. Small ripples spread across the surface, growing larger and more violent with each passing second.

Nearly one hundred thousand kilometers away, Rebir finally reached a decision.

After freezing time for almost three centuries an effortless feat for one nearly omnipotent he had found the solution.

Using the divine stone of a dead god, he created something entirely new.

A System.

Forged from a God's Stone of Life an artifact so dangerous that, in the wrong hands, it could doom entire galaxies the System was both tool and experiment.

Rebir bestowed it upon the two teenage boys.

Without warning, they were transported again, their bodies dissolving into light before reforming elsewhere.

They appeared in a dense forest on a distant world inhabited by countless races: beastmen, orcs, humans, drulew, and many more.

Both lay inside a small woven basket, unable to move.

Their bodies were different.

They were no longer a drulew teen and a human teen.

They had been reborn as human twins.

Infants abandoned by their mother and left to die beneath the towering trees.

A sharp ringing filled their minds.

Two translucent blue screens materialized before their eyes.

The symbols displayed were unfamiliar, incomprehensible but after a moment, something shifted.

Suddenly, they understood everything.

Both boys could see the screens clearly.

And both could tell they were identical.

The former drulew was the first to experiment. He reached out with his tiny hands nothing happened. He wriggled inside the basket, testing the limits of his body.

The movement irritated the other baby beside him.

"What are you doing, you little bastard? Are you trying to get us killed?" the human snapped not aloud, but inside his mind.

The drulew froze.

He had heard the voice clearly.

The other infant was equally stunned when the baby beside him suddenly stopped moving, as if responding.

Slowly, the former drulew turned his head and met the other twin's eyes.

"Can you hear me?" he asked cautiously, attempting the same strange mental communication.

"How… how can I hear you in my head?" the other replied, confused but unable to show it with his undeveloped face.

"I don't know," he answered. "But we should figure out how to get out of here."

"If we're stuck together, we should at least know each other's names. My name is—"

A sharp chime interrupted him.

Both boys focused on the new message flashing before them.
