Chapter 3 - Death rollback

Wang Cong sat up in bed again.

What's going on!

What was that white light?

An oil tanker explosion?

Was it another dream?

But it felt so real, like someone was shining a 10,000-watt searchlight right in his eyes.

No.

Wang Cong shook his head, finding it didn't hurt at all.

The hangover from last night was completely gone.

This isn't right.

Wang Cong grabbed his phone from beside his pillow and turned on the screen.

7:00 AM.

Wait.

Wang Cong picked up his phone again, his eyes wide like saucers.

On the screen, above the lock screen wallpaper, the date was clearly displayed.

December 3rd, Tuesday.

I'm back on the 3rd again!

Wang Cong's heart skipped a beat.

Could it be…?

This isn't the first time.

This is the second time I've returned to this point in time!

Wang Cong had read quite a few online novels, and a crazy thought exploded in his mind.

He stood up and paced back and forth in the small room, muttering to himself.

"System?"

"Golden Finger?"

"Grandpa?" "Hey? Give me a hint!"

There was no response.

It seems the Golden Finger doesn't have a tutorial.

Then how do I trigger it?

His first death was being hit by a car.

His second death was being vaporized by that eerie white light!

So, the trigger condition is... death?

If he dies, he can return to 7 AM on December 3rd?

Wang Cong walked to the window and pulled back the curtains.

His rented apartment was on the 4th floor, not too high, not too low.

A cold draft rushed in through the window, making him shiver.

Should he jump down and see if he can do it again?

Wang Cong peered down; the concrete floor looked hard as a rock.

What if he was wrong?

What if he didn't die from the fall?

Wang Cong silently pulled his head back in and closed the window.

"Fine, I'll go to work first."

At least this time, he knew what was going to happen.

Wang Cong arrived at the Xingguang Road intersection.

That female anchor, as expected, appeared again.

This time, Wang Cong was smarter and went around her from a distance.

He crossed the road on the other side and found an inconspicuous corner to stand in.

Time ticked by.

Wang Cong saw the female anchor interview someone else, but that person completely ignored her!

Just then, the green light turned on.

Wang Cong looked up at the corner. It's here!

"Screech—!" A piercing screech of brakes rang out as a black sedan veered out of control and plunged into a crowd of pedestrians crossing the street!

Screams, cries, the sound of a collision… everything was exactly as he remembered.

Wang Cong watched this horrific scene, a mix of emotions churning within him.

He shook his head and turned to walk into the company building.

Inside, his colleagues were still discussing the car accident downstairs.

His supervisor was still yelling at him to fix the projector.

Wang Cong went to the third-floor conference room and expressionlessly lifted the projector's cover.

Just before the end of the workday, that familiar, voluptuous figure swayed over.

"Xiao Wang, I'm sorry…" Liu Xin still had that alluring look, saying the exact same things as yesterday.

Wang Cong looked at her, a strange thought creeping into his mind.

"Sister Liu, I'm off work. Why don't you ask someone else?" Wang Cong refused for the first time.

Liu Xin's smile froze for a moment, seemingly surprised that Xiao Wang, who was usually at her beck and call, dared to refuse her.

"Hey, Xiao Wang, please help me, I'm really in a hurry," she pleaded again.

"I have something urgent to do too, I'll help you recover tomorrow!" Wang Cong said expressionlessly, packing his things, preparing to leave work.

Liu Xin's face darkened completely, and she stomped away in her high heels. Wang Cong could feel the venomous glare from behind her.

Whatever.

That night, the police didn't knock on the door.

Life returned to normal.

Lying in bed, Wang Cong suddenly slapped himself.

"I'm such an idiot!"

"I actually forgot the most important thing!"

The lottery!

He could have easily memorized the lottery numbers!

If he won the jackpot, why would he need to work such a lousy job!

Why would he need to put up with Liu Xin and his supervisor's attitude?

December 4th!

Wang Cong went to work as usual.

Liu Xin hadn't given him a kind look all day and even complained about him to the supervisor, causing him to get a severe scolding.

Wang Cong pretended not to hear.

He only had one thing on his mind right now.

After get off work, he rushed into a lottery shop.

Red balls: 06, 11, 17, 21, 28, 32.

Blue ball: 09.

Wang Cong repeatedly recited the numbers until he had memorized them before leaving.

As he left, Wang Cong even had a fleeting suicidal thought!

But he decided against it.

Life is precious, and the "golden finger" of rewinding time never explicitly stated that it could be done infinitely!

It's best not to try it unless absolutely necessary.

It's better to stay alive; memorizing lottery numbers is just in case!December 5th, 6:30 AM!

Wang Cong woke up early!

The last white light incident happened nearby; he didn't know what it was, but he figured he should stay away!

So Wang Cong packed all his valuables into his backpack and left early!

He went to the central shopping mall and checked his valuables in.

7:20 AM.

Wang Cong was walking to the subway station.

The morning sun was shining brightly, the air was fresh, everything seemed so beautiful.

Just as he was about to reach the subway entrance, he noticed something was wrong.

The commuters rushing around him all stopped in their tracks.

Everyone looked up, staring at the sky, their faces uniformly blank.

One, two, ten, a hundred… the entire street seemed to have been paused.

The noisy street fell into an eerie silence.

Wang Cong followed their gaze and looked up.

The next second, the half-eaten fried dough stick he was holding fell to the ground.

The sky was gone.

The once azure sky was now replaced by an object so enormous it defied description.

It was a gigantic, unimaginably large disc-shaped creation.

It hovered silently above the entire city, blocking out the sun and casting a dark shadow over the city of Pearl, a city of millions.

An indescribable sense of oppression descended from the sky, and time seemed to freeze.

The entire world was left with only the silent awe brought by the colossal object in the sky.

Then came chaos and screams!

Wang Cong's mind went blank!

He opened his mouth, but only uttered one syllable.

"Holy shit!" The words had barely left his lips.

At the bottom of the giant spaceship, a point of light suddenly lit up without warning.

The point of light rapidly expanded, becoming a blinding, pure white light.

A white beam of light descended from the sky, shooting straight towards the ground.

The people on the city ground were instantly engulfed by white light...
