Chapter 8 - blizzard

Space was magnificent — something so beautiful that it pushed humanity to the very limits of its technology just to uncover more of its secrets.

A young man stood staring into the vast cosmos. His white bedroom had a window facing the stars, and it helped him sleep peacefully at night.

He was a member of the Zero Earth Army. He had been fighting since he was twelve. Now he was twenty-five. His fingers were calloused from constantly operating the armor's control panels. He hated the war — but he hated his enemies even more. That hatred was what kept him standing.

Years ago, his girlfriend was killed on Jacob Day, in what was believed to be an attack carried out by Earth against Zero Earth.

All he had left of her was a photograph inside a pendant — the two of them smiling together on a beach. Sometimes he would look at it and cry.

She had been the first person to teach him that war was wrong. She had always stood by his side in every situation. For the first time in his life, he had believed he might live happily.

He had grown up without parents since the age of four, fighting for food in dark alleys. When he turned twelve, he enlisted in the army. There, he found a small sense of dignity and even made a few friends. But little by little, the war took everything from him — his friends, the love of his life, the family he never truly had.

He had become an empty shell, devoid of emotion. Many called him Blizzard because of the white coat he always wore and his curly hair.

He never tried to bond with anyone when he arrived at a new base or mission. If he did, he would just lose them in battle. And losing someone in war was always unbearable.

"Blizzard, are you there?"

The voice in his earpiece belonged to Captain Joline. She was leading this operation. She wore red armor and had a scar across her cheek. She was always accompanied by her black pet rabbit, Eric.

"Yes, ma'am."

He maintained perfect composure in front of his superiors. He never questioned — he simply acted, almost like a machine.

"Head to Pier Two. Only two hostiles reported."

"Roger."

He stood up and put on his usual white combat gear. He had decided that Earth was his greatest enemy — responsible for everything that had been taken from him.

Secretly, Captain Joline harbored romantic feelings for Blizzard. She had always been drawn to cold men. They reminded her of her father — the great General Cold, known as the coldest man in the army.

She had read Blizzard's file. She knew his story. She considered him her best soldier.

When she first saw him, she hadn't thought much of him. But the way he carried himself — the frost in every word — changed that.

Blizzard entered the command room and bowed slightly to Joline, his expression unreadable.

She stroked Eric's fur, trying to calm her anxiety.

(He's so cold… I wish my fiancé were like that.)

She knew he was only a soldier. As the daughter of a general, she believed she could never be with someone like him.

She couldn't show her softer side. The pressure of war — and her father's expectations — demanded strength from generals.

Blizzard approached his new armor, commissioned by Joline. It was black, with a single glowing purple eye and an energy blade mounted along its back.

"You know your mission, kid. You're the best."

He looked at the countless buttons on the control panel, then closed his eyes. The system felt like a second brain. It was no coincidence he was the second-best pilot in Zero Earth.

He launched toward Pier Two.

When the gate opened—

He saw two Earth armors.

His hatred surged instantly. He wanted to kill them. It didn't matter if they were young. To him, they were nothing but insects.

One of them tried to strike from behind, but Blizzard caught the blade mid-swing.

(You're nothing but trash. You're not human. You don't deserve energy. Your technology is stolen — and I will take it back to my homeland.)

He tightened his grip on the weapon with overwhelming force.

The blade shattered.

A small explosion followed.
