Chapter 1 - Prologue: Hold On, Archie/Archie, Hold On

In the bustling state of St. Finley, the city of Frank Wright was filled with screams. Fire and brimstone completely engulfed the streets, and citizens ran from inhuman amalgamations, and an array of vaguely human monsters.

A tall and burly middle-aged man stood before a massive window looking over a burning city. He held a phone up to his ear

"Carrie, what the hell is going on out there. Sway warned us about Shep, but I didn't think he'd take it this far."

The man was an incredibly powerful politician who worked under the name Working Class Hero. He was running for Senate a second time, but his ever-present ego got in the way of his ambitions.

He paced back and forth listening to the response.

"He's ruining the goddamned business for the rest of us. Nobody wants to buy a fucking-"

From behind, a small eek echoed through his apartment.

"I'll call you back, C."

The man hung up his phone and put it back in his pocket. His heart was unusually heavy. Only hours ago, he had a large, iniquitous party with a few of his close friends. At this party, underage girls were brought out in pieces for them to devour.

He pulled out a pistol from his waistband and held it up to his ear, hands shaking. He was ready to shoot at anything that moved even slightly.

Another eek, this time from his kitchen, rang out around his apartment.

He swung around and fired, purely out of fright.

The shot cracked through the apartment.

Then came the hiss of a snake, close to his ear.

The soundscape of the entire apartment slowly turned into a cacophony of small animals weeping and yelping.

From the shadows, VerminMartyr leapt forward and tackled him to the ground.

Vermin Martyr was a strange-looking man, both wacky and stern. His hair was a multitude long red twists that resembled yarn. On his face was poorly applied makeup under a pair of deep black sunglasses placed specifically to hide his terrifying gaze. He wore a long gray coat, one sleeve cut short, revealing a tight red undershirt beneath. There was something deeply unnerving about him. Something that demanded a second look.

Vermin Martyr followed up with a flurry of punches but the Working Class Hero's defense held firm.

"I should've known you'd track me down," Working Class Hero said. "Pegasus told me to seal up the gaps in here."

Vermin Martyr kipped back up onto his feet.

"Archie Lombardi, A.K.A Working Class Hero... Do you remember Lily?"

He rushed toward Working Class Hero and threw a roundhouse kick straight to his head.

"Or Maybe Mia!"

They continued trading blows, until Archie eventually gained the upper hand and slammed Vermin Martyr to the ground.

Archie stood over him

"You're lost, son. This here's an impossible fight. I'll let you leave now before things get too too serious... Peggy's already a little mad, but-"

Vermin Martyr suddenly pulled out a dagger from his thigh and jabbed it into Archie's leg.

Archie winced out in pain and staggered back.

Vermin Martyr rolled backward and pulled out a second dagger.

"Son of a bitch!" Archie shouted.

Vermin Martyr rushed at Archie and slashed at his chest, but Archie hit the blade away, and slammed his palm against Vermin Martyr's head.

They struggled for a moment until a snake slithered by, and chomped down on Archie's uninjured leg.

"Yield, Basil," Vermin Martyr said, wiping blood from his mouth.

Archie fell to the ground.

"I finally caught you," Vermin Martyr said as he drew a silenced pistol from his coat and approached.

"What the hell do you want? Why do you even care?" Archie crawled backward, voice trembling though his face remained strangely composed. "I see the way those rodents talk to you. You've got it too. I know it."

"I was cursed for love, you fuck! You and all the other sick bastards in the pedophile ring killed my wife." Vermin Martyr shouted.

Archie opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, Vermin Martyr shot at the floor beside his head, silencing him.

"You want money? Is that what you want?" Archie pleaded.

"Are you deaf?" Vermin Martyr said coldly. "Where is Pegasus?"

"I'd be in a lottttttt of trouble if I told you about Peggy."

"You'll be in a lot of trouble if you don't."

Archie backed himself into his massive dining room table. He placed both hands on the ground and flashed a devilish smirk.

"Welllllll..."

Suddenly, his body began to get brighter and brighter from the inside out, until his whole complexion was consumed by beaming white lights.

Vermin Martyr, recognized the danger and attempted to fire, but before he could;

BOOOOOOOOOM

Archie's apartment filled with a blinding light and the massive window overlooking the city burst open.

Vermin Martyr was hurled violently through the broken glass and thrown straight into the madness below.
