Chapter 96 - Ch 96: Guilty

Among all the sins I know, killing a child has a special place. While we think some of them are demon spawns, we can't deny the fact that most of them are innocent in the truest sense of the word.

So because of that, getting the blood of children is something I hate. Yes, it was true; I did kill one in the fit of rage, but that guilt is something I still carry like a nightmare.

But the death of those two children could have been prevented if the Jujutsu high society had decided to send a high-class sorcerer instead of Yuji and others who had just joined. If not for Mei's presence most of, if not all, of the children would have died as Yuji and others didn't have the experience to handle the high-pressure situation. They are still just students.

To get into depth of who is involved from our Zenin clan, I directly came to meet Naobita Zenin. After all, I need to know whose elder's mind was so broad that he/they decided that it was a good idea to send some students to exorcise a special grade, without minding children as collateral damage.

Of course, I know that the Zenin clan is not alone, as elders outside the Zenin are also involved, but since Zenin is my turf, it is easy to get the information regarding this from Naobita.

"So did you approve of appointing Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki to exorcise a special-grade curse while knowing the said curse was born in kindergarten with children still trapped inside?" I said in a calm tone, I know that because I am calm, but it seems Naobita didn't think that, as his hand was trembling somewhat.

"What happened? Why is your hand trembling, Naobita? Is it the start of Parkinson's for you to be shaking like this" Once again, I belive I was specking in a calm tone, like I didn't do threats and all that, because I didn't have knack for that and my body frame also lean for me to make any attempt at intimidation.I am not build for threats.

But Naobita, hearing my concern for his health, started shaking even more.

Good lords, It seems his age started to catch up to him for him to start shaking like that. I thought to myself.

At this rate, we will not get anywhere, so I place my hand on his shaking hands, trying to calm him. "Relax. Why are you shaking like this? I didn't even do anything. I just asked you a silly question to quench my thirst: Who is the one from the Zenin clan that supported the decision of making Yuji and others sent to kindergarten instead of seasoned sorcerers?"

Of course, I know this alone will not persuade Naobita, so I also explain the reason why I need to know the information: "You see, when I carried the corpse of one of the children, I thought I at least needed to know who had that much unwavering trust in Yuji, Megumi and Nobara to point out that they were appointed to kill off a Cursed Spirit made up of one of Sukuna's fingers instead of Atsuya Kusakabe or Kento Nanami, who were available at that moment. I am just curious."

"What would you do after finding it?" Naobita asked as his trembling somewhat decreased. I still didn't know why he was trembling.

"Well, there's not much I can really do. They're powerful figures in the Jujutsu world; if I were to cross them, the entire society would be on my tail, and honestly, I have school tomorrow. So, once I have the information from you, I'll just head back to my quarters." That is the truth; the decision was made by elders. Even if I knew who it was, I didn't have that much political backing to get out of the situation unscathed, as if I touched one of the elders, they all other would target me.

Naobita eventually nodded, accepting the logic. After all, He know Naoya was not foolish enough to openly defy the elders and jeopardize his status as the heir to the Zenin clan. However, what truly unnerved Naobita was the smile that had remained fixed on Naoya's face since the start of their conversation.

"It was Ogi, three elders, and the rest of us against the idea, but since the decision is done by majority vote, they planned to proceed." Naobita said.

"Give me a ratio."

"It was 14 against and 16 supporting the plan." Naobita said.

"So you are saying if at least two of them from our clan were to go against the plan, the whole thing would be called off and might even send Grade-1 sorcerers and underlings, and those two children might even be saved." My voice once again seems to make Naobita's trembling worse; at this point I need to consider that Naobita has some serious problem, but he didn't answer.

"..."

I just let out a sigh, "At least you and some of the others also opposed it, which is good. Oh! By the way, what are the names of the elders that supported it?"

---

The next morning, for reasons unknown to anyone, three elders of the Zenin clan committed suicide, and Ogi Zenin, the brother of the current head, Naobita, was murdered by someone.

Talk about coincidence that nobody will believe even if you explain.
