The streetlights flickered as Elena stepped onto Maple Street.
8:00 PM.
The road was nearly empty. A cold wind brushed against her skin, making her tighten her coat. Every step felt heavier than the last. She shouldn't be here. She knew that.
Her phone felt warm in her hand, the unknown message still glowing on the screen.
Suddenly, a car passed slowly behind her. Too slowly.
Elena turned around.
Nothing.
Just shadows stretching under the dim lights.
Her heart pounded as she reached the corner where the old bookstore once stood. It was closed now, dark and silent.
Then she heard it.
A voice.
"You came."
Elena froze.
From the darkness, a figure stepped forward. His face hidden beneath the streetlight's glare.
"That night wasn't what you think," he said quietly.
Her fingers tightened around the silver necklace.
"Then tell me the truth," she whispered.
The man took one step closer.
"Are you sure you're ready to hear it?"
And just like that, the streetlights went out.
